Chapter 8
"This won't kill me, right?!" Max questioned in a panicked voice as he was shut inside a glass chamber. Approaching the glass, Professor Cogsworth reassured the terrier, "Relax. It is perfectly safe."
"Yeah right! That's what you said to Webster!" Professor Dante shouted from where he stood near the door. The Mexican hairless shoved some papers into the paws of a waiting chihuahua, who looked like he could die from a sudden heart attack at anytime. Max's heart went out to the chihuahua as he left the testing room. Cogsworth just shook his head in pity towards Dante.
"It's all good and ready for testing," Duke called down to his boss, standing by the controls. He pulled on some shades over his eyes. Giving a brisk nod, Cogsworth turned to Max and explained for probably the hundredth time, "Remember, we are not mad scientists here. We are merely trying to figure out new ways to cure those with illnesses and disabilities." A snort could be heard from Dante.
"Understood," Max whispered, wondering what he was doing with his life while Cogsworth walked to his station. Taking a deep breath, the old English sheepdog murmured, "Start up the machine Duke."
