Chapter :- 19

"Bolo .. kia baat hai" swati asked him worriedly.

Manik narrated her the whole incident and in the end said -

"Aunty kuch hoa hai kia nandu k sath ??" He asked skeptically.

Swati gave a heavy sigh and her face looked sad.

"Manik when Nandu was in kindergarten she was such a bright child. She received A,s in all her
activities."

" She was the favorite bubbly child of all her teacher. She loved going to school. "

" Kindergarten k baad ussko vacations thay un mai bhi wo din ginti thi k kab uskai school start hoon gai. Jab uskai school start hoy to shuru k kuch din wo bilkul sahi thi. Phir aik din wo jab ghar aai to mujhe galai lag k ronai lag gai... "

" us din bht roi meri bachi menai poocha uss sai k kia hoa but uss nai
bas yeh keh dia k she was missing me.... i was not sure but mai nai ussai believe kar lia.... "

" phir uss din k baad wo har din dari dari school sai wapis aati thi.... mai nai uss k teachers sai bhi discuss kia
but unko bhi kuch samajh nhi aa rhi thi. Raat ko akailai nhi so sakti thi aur beech raat uth k bht roti thi... phir uss nai school janai sai mana karna shuru kar dia.... school k naam sai bhi dar jati thi..... "

" phir aik din mai nai uss sai poocha. "

Flashback

A six year old Nandini was crying in the lap of a worried looking Swati.

"Mera baby kia hoa hai ?? Batao na school q nhi jana ??" Asked swati while rubbing her back.

"Nahi na Mama school ganda hai plz na mujhe nhi jana" Nandini wailed in her arms and was hiccuping in between her sobs.

"Acha acha nhi jana ok... rotai nhi hain.... aap to Mama ki jaan ho na?" Swati said lovingly and cleaned her face. Nandini nodded her head still sniffing.

"Phir batao kia problem hai?" Swati asked her to which Nandini's lips again trembled.

"You will hate me... aap mujhe liar kahain gi" said Nandini while hugging Swati tightly and moving close to her if that was even possible.

"Mama ap ko kabhi bhi hate nhi kar sakti baby... chalo bolo " said Swati yet again.

She shook her head furiously still in her embrace and mumbled "Uncle nai bola tha k mujhe punishment mile gi agar mai nai bola. ".

At the mention of uncle Swati became stiff and different thoughts came in her mind.

"Nahi nhi... mama I promise wo uncle hi gandai hain.... wo bht gandai hain.. wo mujhe tang kartai hain... mai nai kuch nhi kia Mama .. plz plz sorry" said little Nandini in a scared tone when she noticed her Mama's rigidness.

Swati came back to her senses and held her close while tears also flowed from her eyes.

"Bas mera baby bas... Mama ko pata hai nandu bht good girl hai bas bas " Swati consoled her and her voice was thick with emotion.

She didn't need to be explained twice... she was already able to make out that what would have
caused such a great change in her daughter's life.

Flashback ends

"Phir mai school gai thi but uss admi ka kuch pata nhi chala... uss k baad sai nandu ko yahaan sai
bahir jana bhi pasand nhi tha.... school mai koi kehta tha k wo admi teacher tha to koi kehta tha k
maybe he was someone from workers... aur koi kehta tha k koi bahar ka hai... mai nandu ko iss sab
sai dur rakhna chahti thi iss liye mai nai poori koshish ki meri jaan ko har khushi dainai ki, aaj shayad
uss ko akailai mai apni wahi halat yaad aai ho gi... uss nai iss sai ziada kabhi kuch nhi bataya mujhe
na hi kisi aur ko " Swati was in tears by now and Manik's eyes were blood shot red and tears were
formed in his eyes but he didn't let them fall.

He exited the room and went straight to Nandini's room. As he entered he saw her small form cuddled up in a corner and soft snores were heard.

He came close to her and sat at the edge of bed facing her and tucked the hair strands on her face behind her ears with a soft touch. He then softly
caressed her chubby cheeks with the back of his fingers.

He came close to her face and said -

"I promise "

And kissed her forehead.

"I promise "

Then he kissed her both cheeks softly.

"I promise "

Then he came closed to her parted lips and breathed on it and very lightly touched his lips with her.

"I promise k I will give you all the happiness in this world, Manik Ki Jaan. "
