Chapter One

****************************
When I saw you
I fell in love,
You smiled,
Because you knew.
~William Shakespeare
****************************
Life is so complicated! This is a sentence which almost everyone in this world says in sometime or the other, isn't it? But as time passes people realize that Life was not at all complicated,it was us who made it complicated, right? Some people get to know this fact early and some even take a lifetime but I am one of those lucky ones who realized this fact from childhood, after Amma-Appa died.
I am Nandini Murthy, a physiotherapist at an renowned hospital of Mumbai, the city of dreams. People say, some dreams cost you everything and some dreams give your everything but I say, every dream has a give and take system, it gives you something but at the same time takes something. I ain't saying it like that,I have experience of 25 long years of my life! (Okay, so I really don't know how much it takes to complete the course of physiotherapy so I am assuming it to be 5-6 year course, if I am wrong, then please let me know the real figure. I would be grateful :) )

The experience in which life gave me my younger brother Rishabh and took away Amma-Appa, the support system of my life, I thought I won't be able to live even for a day without them but life gave me a reason, Rishab. I became his mother and father so that he doesn't misses them, I was excited when he first took his step, though I was still small to understand everything, I got myself engaged in the responsibilities of a perfect elder sister whom he can look upto everytime he is confused.

Another milestone in my life when I was enrolled in one of the prestigious medical colleges of India, AIMS of Mumbai! That was a feeling which can't be expressed and in no time it was replaced by a grief because that day, Rishabh met with an accident and he lost his voice forever, according to the doctors only any miracle can make him speak and I am still waiting for that one miracle!

Coming to the present, I am living with my Amms (grandmother) and Rishabh in Mumbai and happily enjoying the small moments of joy with them. But, there is one problem! Some Aunty in the neighborhood can't digest my happiness and wants me to get married and she has shared her thought with Amms and like every other grandmother she too wants me to get settled and have a family! Isn't it ridiculous? It surely is! I can't leave my brother like this nor can I leave Amms alone, how much she says she will manage but deep within she is losing energy  day by day because of her age and I can't blame her. Rishabh is a child, though he is 17 but still he doesn't understands the tactics of this big bad world. And I surely know, that every boy will not like me to come here every other day. No one in this world is so understanding and if there is then he is surely meant for me ;)

Oh! Freak! It's time for me to leave for hospital and before that I need to drop Rishabh to his college! Damn it, and it's time for Amms' medicines also, so careless of you Nandini! There is so much pending work and you are standing at the balcony doing nothing but  bird watching

I hurriedly went inside my room and packed my bag and some useful things  giving a glance to my reflection at the mirror making sure I looked fine because according to me, a doctor should be able to influence you with her personality and looks, if a doctor is shabby looking, no one would like to get themselves treated by them, how much people deny this fact  But it is true.

I called out for Rishabh as I sat for breakfast on our dining table and Amms came with him ruffling his hair while he was smiling.

"Am I missing something? What happened Rishu?"

"Nandu, Rishu got first prize in an essay writing competition."

I squealed with happiness as I hugged my younger brother congratulating him and kissed him on his forehead making him smile wide while Amms adored our bond. I was not his sister in the first place, I was his mother, I was his first friend, I was his mentor and guide, I was his savior and he was my everything, my reason to live then also and now also.

After having our emotional moment, we both had our breakfast, I dropped Rishu to his school and carried on to hospital.

I reached hospital in 20-25 minutes and parked my car where I also noticed a police jeep and wondered what it was doing here, maybe due to some accident case? And I was right, some criminal was injured while escaping and the cops had got him here for treatment. I slowly walked towards the crowd where some doctors along with cops were standing there waiting for someone as I peeped inside the crowd to see what was happening.

"Doctor Nandini! Where were you? We were waiting for you only, come quick, we need you!"

Doctor Sushant, the head of all doctors pulled me inside the room as I saw two well built men around me and the criminal was lying holding his hand, oh, so his hand was injured! I slowly walked towards him and started inspecting his hand while the other two men looked on and were whispering something.

"Monster M, what if others come to know about him? They will not let us live in peace then?"

One of the two men spoke to the other while I kept myself busy in checking him but I was suspicious, what if those two men were also criminals and were calling themselves as policemen just to fool everyone  and were here to save their friend? Though, I didn't looked at their faces but their conversations were quite fishy!

"No, they can't do anything and if they will do, I ain't scared of them!"

The other man replied with a voice full of attitude and I was getting a hint that he was the boss of all these criminals, he was Monster M. And if his name is so dangerous then how dangerous he would be in action? I have to do something, I can't let these criminals go away so easily! Nandini, come on gear up for some action! It's time to show your fierce side!i tightened my wrists as I barged out of the room and looked around to find some policemen, haash!

"Sir, the partner and the leader of the the gang of this criminal is inside, please come with me!"

I almost yelled and caught their attention who came running to me looking confused.

"But how can this be possible? But Army officers,Major Manik Malhotra and Major Cabir Dhawan are already inside!"

Huh? Were there some officers inside? No! There was only Monster M and that partner, maybe the officers have gone for drinking water or having something?Anyways, the policemen rushed inside after seeing my ever so confused expressions and gave a sigh of relief while I looked at them with confusion.

"Doctor, you scared us unnecessarily! They are not criminals, in fact they are army officers he is Major Manik Malhotra and he is Cabir Dhawan!"

Oh sh!t! I made a grave mistake in identifying them! What the policemen might be thinking about me? But wait a min, if these officers came to know that I made them criminals then....,no! I don't know what they will do already this Monster M is scaring me, but he is good looking, a Greek God to be precise, everything is perfect about him, deep chocolaty brown eyes which any girl can drown in, sharp jawline, well chiseled orbs, just flawless! I like him!

"But what was the confusion? Inspector?"

"Nothing serious Major, the doctor had a misunderstanding that you two were criminals and were here to escape him out"

I hate this inspector for spilling the beans, I really do! I will see you Mr. But what should I do now because now I am DEAD!
