The Talk
11 AM; Murthy Mansion
Manik was dumbstruck on seeing Nandini. He was in a trance of her beauty. Raj took this chance to take out the true effect Nandini has left on his son.
Raj - Kaisi lagi humari pasand?
(How did you find our choice?)
Manik - She is Beautiful
(Taking a pause) I think I'm going to marry her only. She is just like the girl I always dreamed of marrying
Raj thought: So, my son had dreams about the girl he will marry. Interesting. Now, I'll have fun teasing him. But for now, let's make my son wait to have a talk with his to-be. Let me also have some fun at his expense.
Nandini was talking to Nyonika and Raj also joined the conversation while Manik was gazing at her lovingly. Manik had already met Vikram who was impressed with the values and ethics with which Manik works and about Swarna, Vikram's wife and Nandini's mother, she saw how Manik is attached to his roots when he touched their feet and she was satisfied with her husband choice as in today's world, the youngsters are more driven to the western world and they don't even consider about following the traditional Indian culture. Hence, he was free to gaze at his to-be wife if she agrees to marry him.
Manik's gazing session was interrupted by his to-be-saale sahab (brother-in-law).
Hey
Manik - Hey champ! How are you?
Manik called him champ as he didn't know his name and also he is younger than him so, calling him Bhai (brother) won't be suitable considering the situation.
Nandini's brother - I'm good. Are you comfortable here?
Manik was overwhelmed with emotions by listening to his innocent question as he not only cared about his comfort but took an effort and come to talk to him when everyone is busy talking to Nandini.
Manik - Yes. What's your name champ?
Nandini's brother - Rishabh Murthy but, I would like it if you'll call me champ only
Manik - Sure champ but, then what you will call me?
Rishabh - Jiju (brother-in-law)
Manik - But I've not become your jiju yet
Rishabh - I know you'll be
Manik - How come you're so confident about it?
Rishabh - Because you're just like my di's dream guy
Manik (smilingly) - Don't you think your di won't like you sharing her secrets with me?
Rishabh - I know you won't tell her about this, jiju
Manik - You know me quite well it seems
Rishabh - I follow you closely Bhai (brother). I'm sorry I didn't mean to
Manik - That's okay and I would be happy to hear Bhai from you. That way we'll not only have a relationship but we'll develop a bond and that will be more personal. You're just like my little brother
Saying so, Manik ruffled his hair and Manik's this statement and gesture won the hearts of the Murthys. When Manik said "you know me quite well", it took the attention of everyone present in the hall including the one whose heart was in her mouth since the moment he had entered their home.
Raj and Nyonika felt proud of their son. He has not only raised their head in society for the matters related to business, but he has also raised their head in matters where the most delicate thing is concerned i.e., relations, and today he has made them in front of the budding relations that are too delicate. A single tug and the string of these budding relationships will break or get tangled.
Rishabh hugged Manik as he was not able to conceal his emotions. He feared that his di's to-be will not like him or will try to snatch his di away from him then, what will he do? How will he overcome this? How will he stay away from his di? But today after Manik and his parents, he was relieved that his di will be in safe hands.
He knew his parents would have checked the prospect's background and his qualities but, he was still concerned about his sister being a brother. Brothers don't shower love on their sisters but, when she'll go to start her own family and be away from him that's when a brother realizes the importance of his sister. Having a sister is a privilege and it can be understood only by those who have got a sister. The sisters care, fight, protect, and love their brothers in a way no one can irrespective of her being elder or younger. No doubt sometimes, they land you in trouble as well but that's the beauty of their relationship.
Raj - Now that everyone has become familiar with each other, why don't these two kids also have a talk with each other?
Vikram - Sure. After all, we have gathered here only for them.
Swarna - Nandini, why don't you take Manik to your room? You both will be able to talk freely there
Nandini - okay mom. (To Manik) chaliye (Please come)
Manik nodded and looked at his parents who nodded and then Nandini's parents who nodded with their hearts filled with immense joy as Manik considered their opinion in the first meeting. In India, the male prospect only considers the opinion of the parents of the female prospect once the alliance is fixed. But Manik breaking that stereotype meant a lot to the Murthy couple.
Manik got up and moved behind Nandini to have "the talk" that will define their life. Both of their hearts were filled with nervousness, their stomach had butterflies, and their minds were filled with confusion. Both of them were excited somewhere deep down in their hearts. Though one of them was skeptical about how will unfold, the other was having immense joy in his heart thinking about being her better half.
Nandini's Room; Murthy Mansion
On reaching the room, Manik looked around and was amazed to see the simple yet cozy room. The room was decorated beautifully in a combination of blue and white colors. Manik wanted to explore her room but was interrupted by a soft yet beautiful voice.
Nandini - Suniye (Please listen)
Manik - Haa (Yes)
Nandini - Kya aap yaha pr baat krna pasand krenge ya bahar balcony me? (Where would you like to have the talk? Here or on the balcony?)
Manik - Mujhe to kahi pr bhi chalega pr aap kaha comfortable rahengi? (I'm fine anywhere but, where would you be comfortable?)
Nandini - Yaha pr hi baat krte hai. Aaiye baithye (Then let's talk here only. Please come, sit)
Manik and Nandini settled on the armchairs placed in the room beside french windows that give a view of the balcony.
Manik - I hope you willingly agreed to this proposal. I mean you aren't forced into this, right?
Nandini - No. I have agreed without anyone's pressure.
Manik - Great. So, what are your hobbies?
Nandini - I like reading, singing, and traveling.
Manik - Wow! Even I like these things except for reading. I just can't read.
Nandini - But then how did you become The Businessman of the Year
Manik - Who said you need to read to become the businessman of the year?
Nandini - No one but then, I believe reading leads to better and early outcomes.
Manik - Isse early krta to ye log mujhe consider krte kya for the award? (Would they consider me for the award if I was earlier than this)
Nandini looked confused as to why will he say this because eligibility criteria are not based on the age of the awardees
Manik - See, I wanted to enter into the different industries and turn the company into a group of companies. I worked to achieve my goal and when I reached there, the destination had a surprise waiting for me with the award. If I had moved after the award then, I wouldn't be in this position.
Nandini - So, position matters to you
Manik - No. I wanted to achieve my goal so that I can make my parents proud of me. I'm still working on that.
Nandini - You have made them proud. It reflects in their eyes.
Manik - What do you think is most important in a relationship?
Nandini - Trust. If you can't love someone but trust them then, you can happily spend your life with them. Without love, a relationship can survive but without trust, a relationship cannot survive.
Manik - I'm glad our views are the same on this
Nandini - What do you think about the Indian traditions?
Manik - I love them though some of them need to be removed, we can't force anyone to do that. Instead, we can start to do that from our own homes and who knows someone might get inspired by us
Nandini smiled and was about to say something but they were interrupted by a knock. Rishabh entered inside and spoke
Rishabh - Di, Bhai, everyone is waiting for you both. Please, come soon.
Manik and Nandini nodded. Rishabh went from there and Manik-Nandini stood up.
Manik - I'm pretty clear about my decision. I hope you're too.
Nandini gave him a smile and they made a move to go downstairs where everyone was waiting for them with a bated breath.
