ONE

"It's your first year as Mclaren Team Principal, what are your plans for the season?"

Zita Contreras smiled as she sat in the drivers seat of her BMW, driving comfortably towards the race track with plenty of time to spare before any fans or media were let in to the area.

Beside her, sat her sister who had the pressure of managing a team in Formula One, called Mclaren and had to strive for the best results that she could get them.

"Well, I'm hoping that I can help the team to some race wins but I will take podiums. I know that we have a whole lot of work to do this season, but I believe that we can do it."

Olina Contreras smiled reassuringly at her little sister as she sat in the passenger seat, appreciating the fact that her sister was supporting her but then again, she knew that she would.

It would be strange for the both of them to regularly see one another, since Zita was mainly used to only seeing her sister every few weeks but instead would now see her at every single race weekend.

The only problem though, was that they had loyalty to different teams.

Olina was loyal to Mclaren, because she was now the Team Principal, however Zita was loyal to Alfa Romeo because she was driving for them.

She was also loyal to Ferrari, having spent the prime years of her career at the Italian team but she opted to let her support for them be a little bit more on the quiet side due to having been replaced a couple of seasons ago.

"Yeah, last season for Mclaren wasn't great and you've got all that bad press from the Ricciardo fallout. But I hope for your sake that Piastri proves to be a worthy candidate for that seat." Zita spoke in her usual confident tone, trying to give an unbiased opinion which was hard since she was very good friends with the Australian that had been replaced.

"He's got good form and he suits the car so I have confidence that he will be a great addition to the team." Olina smiled, staring down at her phone briefly to see a message from the CEO of Mclaren.

"Well, I can't wait to see him fly past me on the track. Are we taking bets on my results all being fifteenth or lower for the entire season?" Zita smirked as she mocked herself and the car that she was competing with.

It wasn't the best car, that was for sure.

She had driven many different cars throughout her time in Formula One and if she was being honest, Zita would go as far as saying that it was the worst one that she had ever driven.

She wouldn't say that to her team principal, though. Or maybe she would, it would depend on how her season turned out.

"Not a chance, I'm doing what I usually do and believing in your experience and determination that you will succeed." Olina laughed, knowing what her sister was like.

"And that's why you're the best sister I could ever ask for. Supportive and delusional."

"Nervous?"

Oscar Piastri spoke quietly as he stood beside his team principal, able to tell by her constant fidgeting and shaking that she was very nervous about her new position.

"Nope, are you?"

Olina Contreras responded with a straight face, her left eye twitching slightly, which it tended to do if she was lying, which she was.

"Nope."

Oscar turned his head to look at his boss, seeing her staring at him with the exact same expression on her face that he had on his.

It was evident that they were both lying through their teeth.

Whilst Oscar could avoid talking a lot and showing his nerves, Olina couldn't and would often be forced to do interviews where she had a lot of talking to do, which would mean that it would be evident how nervous she was.

"Well, we're new. We have an excuse." Olina muttered underneath her breath, hearing a short chuckle leave the lips of the rookies driver standing next to her.

"Us newbies have to stick together." Oscar shot his team boss a reassuring smile in an attempt to calm her nerves, his eyes noticing how her shoulders dropped which gave the hint that it had worked the way that he had planned it to.

"You get me good results, and I'll get you a good car." The pair shook one another's hands before they parted ways and walked away from each other, Olina heading straight to her boss which was the CEO, Zak Brown.

"It's the first race of the season, Contreras. We need a good show, but not everyone is expecting miracles so don't put too much strain on yourself just yet. Save that for the end of the season."

Zak Brown spoke with authority in his tone, the tall American man towering over the Brunette woman who was nodding her head in understanding.

Olina watched closely as her drivers were getting ready for the race to begin, standing behind the radio engineer that their rookie driver had, her dark brown eyes widening in hope as the lights went out which signalled that the race had started.

The cars didn't seem to have the powerful start that any of the team had been hoping for, and with Piastri starting in eighteenth place and Norris in eleventh, it was going to be difficult.

Olina chewed nervously on her fingernails as the race went on, with the Mexican seeing that both of her drivers were struggling to keep their positions.

Her sister was struggling too, but that was mainly because of having to swerve to avoid a car that had spun out on the track.

Zita had qualified in twelfth place in her Alfa Romeo at the first race of the season, behind one of her drivers and yet she watched with both elation and chagrin as her sister managed to overtake Lando Norris, who was one of her Mclaren drivers.

She struggled to keep track of the three cars that were her two drivers and her sister but when she did manage to find them all, they all had different positions.

One minute, Lando was eleventh, then he was twelfth, then he was fourteenth then he was twelfth again.

One minute Zita was twelfth, then she was eleventh, then she was seventh, then tenth. It was a lot to keep track of when she was frantically overtaking cars.

One minute Oscar was eighteenth, then he was seventeenth, then nineteenth, then eighteenth, but then he was dead last, slowing to a stop.

Why had Oscar stopped?

"Is he alright? What's the issue?" She found herself asking his radio engineer who was in the middle of speaking to the Australian, trying to find out what the cause of his sudden halt was.

"There's some type of technical issue, there's a yellow flag out now." His radio engineer informed her as she nodded her head up and down from listening, sadness forming in her gut at how the first race of his Formula one career had ended in a DNF.

"Bring him in."

Olina spoke to the engineer, hearing his mumbles whilst she was concentrating on the screen as she watched her other driver Lando, drop down a bunch of places having been overtaken.

It wasn't a great start to her time in charge of Mclaren, but she knew that it could have been a much worse start so she was still cheery and hopeful when both of her drivers returned to their garages.

Oscar obviously had a DNF, and Lando despite starting in eleventh place, had unfortunately dropped down throughout the race until he was in seventeenth position.

Zita however, had been successful in having a great race. It wasn't the top five, but considering the car that she was in and having started in twelfth place, she was very happy to have ended her race in Bahrain in eighth Place.

It was some points in her very first race of the season, so she couldn't complain.

"Sorry for letting you down, boss." Oscar muttered as he walked towards his team principal, seeing her immediately furrow her eyebrows together in confusion.

"It was an issue out of your control, so it is I, who is sorry for letting you down. I must admit, before the issue, I was very pleased with how you were driving. I think that you'll do great things here at Mclaren."

Olina patted the shoulder of the boy, seeing the corner of his lips twitching up in a very small smile which made her own face light up in to a large one.

It was strange how protective she felt of the young boy already, but she believed in him and she couldn't wait to see what he could do with a good working car.

"Now come on, I'll make you a hot chocolate. You'll love it."

"Thanks boss."
