Chapter 7
Pre-dawn,
The sun has yet to rise. Even by then, the members of Mana Magicians are already up and moving. Alarms ring as platforms rise, ready to launch new planes out and receive planes back. Avery and Agnes sat in their car, waiting in the back of a Pelican. "So what's going to happen?" Agnes asked. Avery counted off her fingers. "Well first we'll go and register for the classes. I will register the same classes as you, to help you in hard parts. Also try to keep your feelings in check...when an Alpha knows that there are other Alpha nears its Omega he or she gets super jealous. Same for Omegas with their Alpha. These people are teenagers, their scents hasn't fully matured so we shouldn't be too affected."
"Second we will be having a dorm. I've been briefed by the mayor of New York, the school we're going to apparently has one of the best dorms, so your father has booked one for us, partly to make up for no being there for the first 17 years of your life. So we will be living life in style. Thirdly the school is for extremely rich kids. So be prepared to dress flashy and cool. There will be multiple cliques in there."
"Last," the ramp in the Pelican opened and air blasted past them. "We're being dropped a hundred miles from city limits to test my car out! Let's roll!" Avery yelled as she backed the car into open air. Agnes had a horrible feeling of weightlessness for a minute, before the car hit the ground and bounced. Avery put the pedal to the metal and tires screeched as the car sped its way towards the Big Apple. Agnes held onto the sides in fear and exhilaration. "Yahoo!" Avery shouted as she jumped the car. Unlike other cars which bounced painfully upon landing, Avery's car was augmented with Christie Suspension, a type of suspension built for tanks that enabled them to move faster over rough ground. Avery drifted the car past slower cars. As it was just January, ice was still present on the ground. As the car hit slippery patch Avery hit the C button on the steering wheel. Spikes shot out of the tires and gripped the ice.
Within minutes the girls were cruising into downtown New York. Avery pointed out the Empire State Building. "That's where Olympus is." They cruised to the other side, where a huge school lay. It had every single kind of facilities in it, even a racecourse for drivers and it had its own country course, like Speed Racer. (Am I the only one who watches that racing movie?) "Alright we're here in...ok this is ironic by a lot. Olympian High. Seriously? Either Hades did this on purpose or he didn't know." Avery ranted. Avery drove her car into the carpark. Only one lot was empty and it was on the far side of the carpark. A flashy gold car drove up beside them. "Hey ladies. Looks like you need that lot. How bout if both of you go out on a date with me I give that lot to you?" A young blond teen smiled. Agnes growled. "No. Screw off." The teen laughed. "Haha feisty I like it. How bout a race? One lap of that racecourse over there. Nothing but our cars only right now. Anything on it with the exception of lethal force is allowed." He said. "The stakes?" Avery asked. "I win, both of you go on a date with me. You win, you get that parking lot. Deal?" Avery smirked. "You're on." Word spread quickly and soon a crowd formed. "You're gonna lose babes, he's the head of our racing club and he is unbeaten." A proud jock said. "I'm surprised that you can even say 'unbeaten'" Avery said back. "Oh dam! You just got burnt Jake." The same teen boy from just now came over. "Yeah but I'm waiting to see their reaction when you win, John." Jake said. "She's taken." Agnes said hotly. "By whom?" Jake asked. "Me." Agnes said and pressed her lips to Avery's. A gasp went through the crowd. "Damn two hot girls together. Good choice." John said. "Let's do this." Avery said.
A teen girl came out in skimpy dress. "Are you ready?" She yelled, pointing at John. He revved his engine. "I know you are." She said pointing at Avery. Avery revved her engine and flames and smoke came out of the exhaust pipe. "Ready..." The girl raised her right hand. "Set..." she raised her left. "Go!" She dropped both hands down and both cars raced past her. Avery immediately turned left at the start of the race and went up the harder track. The audience gasped. That track was notoriously hard and had badly injured drivers before. Even John dare not attempt that track unless he was in a special car built for the track. Yet here this newbie was attempting this impossible track.
Avery drove past obstacles and jumped her car using ramps installed in the course. Bumps allowed her to use the Christie suspension in her car to its fullest. The first main obstacle came, a huge pendulum. As ball came down, Avery turned me drifted around the moving sphere, but that move had cost her speed. John was rapidly approaching the halfway mark for his course, while Avery just completed a quarter.
Agnes saw Avery breath in, and breath out. Her eyes changed to a fiery purple. "I'm not losing to some guy with a gold car. Agnes strap in." Agnes quickly buckled extra seat belts as Avery flipped a transparent cover and press the button labeled, "NITRO". A glass dome came up over Avery and Agnes. As Avery rounded a corner the boost kicked in. The car sped up and Avery had to drift all the way to compensate for the extra speed. "Raise Christie Suspension to fullest." Avery commanded. "Complying." The onboard computer replied in a cool female voice. Agnes felt the car rise upwards. "There," Avery pointed. "That's what I'm heading for." She pointed a loop-de-loop track which ended in a ramp for cars to launch themselves off. "If I jump it correctly I can skip most of the course and catch up." Avery said as she drifted another bend. She straightened the car and punched the NITRO button again. The car gave another jerk and sped towards the loop. She sped up the track, then raced down the other part of the loop. At the ramp she tapped inertial control and reduced the internal weight of the car to zero. The boost suddenly had a field day as it propelled the car high over the track.
Avery landed right beside John as he was a mere 200 meters from the finishing line. The problem was the last part had lots of drifting. Avery was up for it. She yanked the wheel hard and her blue car curved away from John, who hastened to keep up. Avery easily drifted her car left and right, her enhanced suspension giving her more control and handling despite it being the heavier car. John suddenly rammed the car, sparks arcing from the shield projector. "Hey!" Avery protested. "Anything is possible except lethal force." John said smugly. Avery narrowed her eyes. John was pushing them towards last course, a pipe where cars can go all around the insides. If she lost control then she might lose. Avery hit the A button on her steering wheel. Hydraulics under her car withdrew, then punched downwards, launching the car up and over John's. The two cars sped at the same speed towards the pipe. John drove left and up, over Avery and Agnes' heads to ram into them again. Avery just smirked as both cars went into uncontrollable spins. "Why are you smirking? You're gonna lose." Yelled John. "Don't think so." Avery pulled the steering wheel hard left and her car dipped on the left side and raised on the right. She easily got out of the combined spin and started her own. Spinning the car, it became a blur as her spinning reached incredible speeds. She jammed the brakes. The wheels stopped and locked in position as Avery and Agnes approached the finish line. Two pops were heard and there was the sound of metal rubbing on the rough road. The car screeched as it came to a stop at the finish line, two of its wheels punctured. John rolled up beside them. "Damn girl what was hot!" Jake ran up to them and held out a hand. "Name's Jake if you didn't know, pleased to meet you." He told Avery. "Yes yes go away." Agnes said. Jake wrinkled his nose. "I don't like you." He said. "Feelings' mutual. Now go away." Jake went off. "Not too bad drivers. If you have time, join the racing club! You and your car will be excellent members. Sad about those wheels though." John said. Avery pressed the B button on her steering wheel. New tires inflated. "What wheels?" Avery smirked at John's gaping face and drove away.
As she drove into the last parking lot left she saw Agnes sulking. "Agnes what's wrong?" Agnes just shook her head silently and the two got out their luggage in silence. Avery wondered if she'd done anything to piss off Agnes, one of the sweetest girls she knew. They checked in with at the Main Office, got their Dorm keys and drove the car over to the dorm carpark, where they parked their car at the level of their dorm and went in. It was a huge dorm, completed with a kitchen, a walk in cabinet, shelves and tables. A huge plasma television was in the living room, a second one in the bed room. The bedroom only had one bed. Avery deadpanned. "Think my mom was here." Avery muttered. Agnes ignored her. "Agnes you ok?" Agnes ignored her again and turned her back on Avery. "Come on what's wrong?" Silence. "Fine if you don't want to tell it's ok." Avery said, trying another tactic. Still nothing. "Agnes come on." Avery lay her hand on Agnes' shoulders. Agnes just shrugged it off. "Agnes what's wrong! Stop ignoring me!" Avery shouted. Agnes spun and raised her hand.
Slap!
Avery's eyes went wide as she clutched at her cheek in pain. "What was that for?!" She demanded. "You still want to ask what's wrong when you kept flirting with that Beta John? I can feel what type are they Avery. John is a Beta, Jake an Alpha. He doesn't like me and frankly I don't either." Agnes yelled, tears running down her face. "You've been just sitting there while Jake and John flirt with you!" Agnes screamed, her emotions on overload. Avery held up her hands. "Wait I wasn't-" Agnes interrupted her. "Excuses! You know very well I'm here and yet you're still flirting with them." Agnes launched herself onto the bed still crying.
Avery sat down beside Agnes. "Come on Agnes it's not that bad. I wasn't even thinking of h-" "Oh so then you wasn't but now you are?!" Agnes sprang up. Avery held up her hands again but Agnes pinned her to the bed. "Avery Maeva Chaos, Aveline D'Arc, whatever you are now you're my first and best friend. I can't lose anyone anymore. My mother is gone. My father is too busy. You're the only one left. I can't afford to lose you as well. Not to some boy with an attitude if I can help it." Agnes cried. Both of their eyes met, Agnes glanced at Avery's lips while biting her own, then looked back at her eyes. Avery's lips were parted slightly. Agnes cupped Avery's head gingerly, and slowly leaned in to kiss her. Their lips met, sending a spark through each other. Agnes licked Avery's lips, asking for entrance. Avery gave it with no resistance. The two made out on the bed for a minute or so, parting due to the mortal requirement of air. Avery had a glazed over look in her eyes when Agnes drew back, a thin string of saliva connecting their lips. Avery pulled her head down and their kissing got more urgent.
Some time later, Avery and Agnes lay under the blankets cuddling, wearing their night clothes. "So...what now?" Agnes asked shyly. "Unknown, but we definitely cannot go back to being just friends after this. It would be too awkward." Avery said. Agnes nodded. "But not as girlfriends yet. I have an urge to bite you and claim you, but something tells me it isn't time yet." Agnes admitted. "That's just your Alpha Hormones. It's relatively normal. My Omega hormones are also going crazy." Avery took in a breath, smelling the strawberry and woody smell of Agnes. Avery relaxed. "How bout instead of just being best friends, we be best friends with benefits for now?" Agnes suggested. Avery thought it over. "Sure. But first." She pulled Agnes close. "Let's sleep. I'm exhausted." Agnes didn't protest. She was pretty tired from her rage just now. Both drifted off the sleep, hugging each other and breathing each other's scent in.
