Jonathan threw his bag over the metal fence and began to climb over it before dropping to his feet on the other side, his attention turning back to the fence where Bryce threw his bag over as well. He helped his friend land safely before grabbing his brown bag and throwing it over his shoulders and with a jerk of his body it situated itself on them. His eyes moved to the front of the road where he could see the tops of cars. They had been there for a while and vines covered their rusted forms as if to catch the decaying substance in a trance.

Crows sat upon them cawing loudly in the silence, their white eyes gazing down onto the two men who walked side by side. Jonathan shuddered under their gaze.

"Do you ever think there's a chance of us being happy again?" Bryce blurted out, his blue eyes staring up at the bright sky. "I mean...ever?"

Jonathan didn't say anything as he looked to the blonde boy beside him who soon turned to look at him with a raised brow. "I'm happy when I'm with you." He said without thinking, the boys eyes slightly widen at his words. Bryce jerked his head away with a frown upon his lips and whispered lightly.

"Because you have determination. Maybe not for the best thing but yanno we–we can work on that."

Bryce looked up at him and for a moment the vision of Ryan popped in his head. How the male was always there for him and his choices but whenever the other looked back at him the vision had faded. Jonathan was not Ryan. He never would be. But something told him they were alike in so many ways.

"What? Grease on my face or something?"

"N-no. I was just uh, thinking."

He turned his gaze away from the brown haired male and looked forward with a serious expression. He never once thought about becoming friends with this man in the past. They hated each other in fact, he can remember when they were forced to stay together and neither one of them bothered to speak but once.

Jonathan and him climbed to the top of the road and the brown haired male stopped as the flash of people screaming and running past him sparked. He backed up a little before having someone grab his shoulder–snapping him back to reality at once. His gaze shifted to the blonde who just walked past him with an emotionless face.

That's all he ever seemed to wear anymore.

Of course Jonathan knew why, he was never the same man he once knew. The small talks they had before they despised each other was gone in a way. Maybe it's because they knew they were the only ones left.

"Get down!"

Bryce suddenly whispered as he ducked behind a car and beckoned for his friend to take a spot beside him. They both peered over the car to see a group of infected heading down to where they had once come from not too long ago. Thank god they didn't waste time.

"The roads have to be crawling with them."

"Yeah no doubt. So what do we do?"

"We either take the road or the forest but at this point...the forest is so overgrown that we'll get jumped."

"Well," Jonathan stood to his feet and looked around for anymore infected. "Let's just keep pushing on. We'll reach the end eventually."

Bryce nodded slightly and he watched the man walk away again. His sister stood leaned against a car, her eyes watching him carefully as the oblivious male passed her. Her spirit lingered there for a moment in a still, motionless, portrait.

She was forever beautiful to him but he knew better than to be fooled. She was dead and he knew that. Roughly, he blinked twice and just like that she was gone. Deja vu.

The sun beamed brightly upon the two men from above as their figures walked the lonely road. Crows circled above the sky.
