Bryce woke up go the sound of an angry scream and he immediately knew what was happening soon if he didn't wake up. When he jerked his eyes open he saw his sister slowly putting her bag on her shoulder as her eyes were fixed upon the monster. His white eyes seemed to look around for any sign of humans, although he was blind his sense of smell and hearing made up for that. Her gaze jerked to her brother who was slowly doing the same as her.
Meg placed a finger to her lips as she pointed to the empty shelf space where a bunch of infected were walking freely around. He swallowed the lump down his throat and took a deep breath before stepping back over his sleeping bag to try and be as silent as possible. They needed the sleeping bags and somehow his sister had managed to roll it up quickly so why couldn't he? As he began to roll it up the sound of the fabric brushing against each other echoed lightly causing them both to freeze and look up to the infected.
He didn't seem interested in them as for he had fell to his knees and was tearing into the other infected like a wild animal. Meg took this as her time to shove the sleeping bag in her brothers backpack before pointing to the green metal exit door in front of them. With a nod they both tiptoed their way to it before she gently pressed down on it, trying not to attract attention, she began to push but it didn't open.
"Meg hurry!" Bryce whispered with a frown. "I don't think that body is doing anything for him..."
She snarled in response as she tried to push on the door again but it didn't budge again causing swear to fill her forehead. Fear had finally crept in on her. "Bryce it won't open.." Her whisper was low as she glanced back at her brother who gave it a try. He backed away and began to look around before seeing a key hanging on the holder behind the counter.
"It's behind the counter..! Stay here and let me get it."
"No! Bryce you're heavy and one mistake for you could be death. Let me get it since I'm not as clumsy as you are."
Before he could protest she began to make her way to the shelf, pulling on it lightly to squeeze through. She took a deep breath as she sat her backpack down and tried again only this time did she successfully pull herself through. Her breathing hitched as she stepped to the side of the infected male, his face inches from her, she held her breath. He let out a low bark before falling onto the next body.
Meg watched as he tore into it like hunger had taken over him before she finally stepped over the body and went behind the counter to grab the key. Her fingers grasped it into the palm of her hand and she began to make her way back before passing the key to her brother. He opened the door with one turn of it and pulled it open so she could go first only to have it let out a loud groan as if he had upset it. Their gaze jerked to the infected that had looked up from his meal, looking directly at the door, he let out a scream.
"Go!" Meg cried out as she began to run. He didn't think twice about what she had said as he let his hand slip from the door and his legs kick into overdrive! They ran as fast as they could to gain some distance between themselves and the monsters only to have his sister jerk to a stop by a blue car that still had the keys in it. "Here! Bryce here!"
She threw him her bag and he slung it in the back, not even questioning her idea until he was sitting in the passenger side. "Meg what're we doing?! There's no telling how old this car is!" He yelled as panic hit him like a bat in the face. Her blue eyes never met his as she turned the keys, the car giving a nasty shriek in response. She kept trying until finally it started with the popping sound and before she floored the gas her brother shifted the gear for her.
"Holy crap! I can't believe I'm driving!" She smiled widely as she looked to her brother who was looking through the glove box. He pulled out some papers that had been folded together and she raised a brow at them. "What're those?"
"Burnt messages?"
