Chapter 18: The Grand Nexus Wedding
The wedding day. The union between Big Mama and Abigail Martin. Leonardo was in charge of everything and was prepared for murder if someone got in his way. He was relieved to have siblings. They were all willing to help out in any way they could. Mikey was sent to the kitchen to help out or learn and make sure everything was getting done. Raphael and April were in charge of making sure everyone’s suits and dresses were up to snuff.
Suzie was vetting everyone and giving orders to security with Godrick assisting her. Finally his twin Donnie was helping him with all the electrical work that needed to be done. The two turtles decided to smush their birthdays into one day and call each other twins. Donnie wasn’t a huge fan of physical touch and Leo learned that pretty quickly after it was revealed they were brothers.
Leo made sure to learn and spend time with each of his brothers and attempted to spend time with his “father,” if you could even call him that. The ninja training sessions he was excited for, they were real lessons and sounded legit, but the rat man was lazy and barely put effort into training. They also understood that their dad was a crappy teacher when Leo took them to one of his training sessions with Godrick and Suzie. Godrick started teaching them about their preferred ninja weapons. A bo staff, nunchucks, and sai.
Back to the matter at hand, Donnie was using the jetpack feature of his battle shell to hang fairy lights on a pretty grapevine covered arch. Big Mama allowed Leonardo to do all the wedding planning at his begging over the last few months. It’s been three months since the Hamato Clan was welcomed to the hotel. Splinter was still wary of Big Mama, but she was clearly a very devoted mother to Leonardo and his boys. Donatello took an instant liking to her.
Leo had a blast planning and executing said plans for the wedding. Food was a big thing for both sides of his family, so that part was a challenge. As was finding suitable locations for the venue. He had Godrick and Amanda go undercover to find out their favorite places in the whole world. There were a few good ones, but Leo ultimately settled on a beautiful yokai vineyard in France called Les vins de Monica, Monica’s Wines in english.
Like stated before, the menu was one of the harder parts to deal with. All four head chefs of the hotel (Patrick, Francine, Steve, and Benjamin) hand picked five of their subordinates to assist them with the cooking. It was a large event after all.
The full menu was picked apart until they were able to cater to everyone in attendance. There was a chopped salad, a light wedding soup, steaks for the meat eating yokai, chicken for those on diets, and fried, seasoned tofu for the vegetarians and vegans, white wine and champagne for the adults (and sneaky teenagers), and white grape and apple and pineapple juices for the kids.
For snacks Leo and the head chefs kept it beyond basic. Simple charcuterie boards, breadsticks, stuffed mushrooms, deviled eggs, and potato chips. Everything was homemade and Mickey was happy to help with the cooking.
The only thing Leo personally didn't have his fingers in was the dress shopping. He didn’t want to completely control their wedding so he took them both to a yokai bridal boutique in the Hidden City. It took a few hours, but it was great bonding time for him, Suzie, and their moms. Big Mama found a dark, purple wine colored, gothic, spidery wedding dress that she couldn’t say no to. Abigail found a cute lilac and lavender colored suit with a plum colored tie.
Neither future wife saw each other’s outfit thanks to Leo and Suzie. Their kids were on top of things. Big Mama was actually proud of Leonardo for taking charge and coordinating such an upscale event with a sense of pride and finesse only she possessed. Leo was delegating tasks to not overwhelm himself and was bonding with his brother with a shared collective goal.
Big Mama really took to the three new children under her care almost immediately. Initially she wanted them around for Leonardo's benefit, but they wormed their way into her heart and she felt like she had three more children.
Raphael was headstrong and loved his family to bits and pieces. She related to that, but she put him in a weekly therapy session to undo the parentification he had suffered through. Splinter often joined those sessions when not attending to his own.
She and Michelangelo had a shared love for art, be it dance or paint. The also had a dark side when provoked, his being called Dr. Delicate Touch.
Donatello was tech savvy and had intelligence that rivaled her own. Whereas Leonardo was street smart and cunning Donatello was intellectually gifted and balanced each other out nicely. Suzanne got along with her new brother almost as easily as Leonardo. She and Donatello had an equal amount of psychotic energy, Michelangelo was a little rainbow to her and made her delicious food, and Raphael was a new training buddy.

“Alright, lighting and music is done… Suzie! Are you finished vetting the guests?”
His sister gave him a thumbs up and bumped fists with Godrick. The lion was pleased with how Leo took the planning seriously. He was going to be a fine hotel owner one day. Leo checked off the security box on his clipboard and spoke into his headset.
“Angelo! My main man, how’s the food coming?”
“It’s going great! We just finished the last of the snacks!”
“Fantastic. I’ll have some waiters start walking about. Raphie, April are everyone’s clothes good? Any incidents?”
(Raphael): “We’re good little bro. I stuck to the dress code list you gave us, but…”
(April): “Leon, why is everyone in white? It’s kinda taboo to wear white to a wedding.”
“Don’t worry. It’ll make sense later. Alright, food, security, guests….Alright. Time for the guests to mingle and walk about. Donnie, Raphie, and April. Make sure everyone has a slip of paper assigned to a seat. I don’t want anyone sitting in our seats at the front. Suzie, you go to Mom and help her. I’ll help Mama. When everyone’s done with their tasks, go get changed into your fancy clothes.”
Leo smiled and rushed to the area where his mother was to be changing into her dress.

She was already finished and a familiar fox woman styling her hair.
“Mama! Everything has been completed without complications!
“Is that Leonardo? Oh sweetheart, you’ve gotten so big!”
“Thank you?”
“Baby-shell, it's Miss Samantha, don’t you remember her?”
“Sorta, not really. Hi…I’m gonna get dressed Mama.”
Leo took his bagged clothes and scooted behind a curtain. He had a pale blue, almost white dress with a dark purple satin bow around the waist, matching purple flats, his blue bandana tied around his neck, and simple jewelry. A pair of sapphire earrings and a diamond necklace. Big Mama allowed him to raid her jewelry box with Suzie for the special occasion.
Leo proudly stepped out of the curtain and spun for his mother.
“Aww, baby-shell you’re so cute!”
“Hehe, thanks Mama! Can you do my make-up please?”
“Of course!”
Leo had bold eyeliner wings, a light dusting of lilac eyeshadow, and a smear of peppermint lip gloss.
“Thanks Mama!”
Leo put his headset back on and unmuted himself.
“Alright is everyone in positions?”
(Godrick): “Everything is a go Leo.”
“Alright. Is Mom at the alter?”
(Raphael): “Ms. Abigail is standing by. And before you ask, everyone is seated and in their nice clothes.”
“Thank you big brother. I’ll see you down there.”
Leonardo was his mother’s maid of honor and Suzie was Abigail’s. Leo was also the flower-thrower of the wedding. He had a little basket of purple, black, and white rose petals and rice and he faced down the final curtain.
“See you down there Mama.”
Leo left the room and a fun upbeat song played as he scattered the flower petals and rice down the aisle. A lot of the Nexus staff and important figureheads filled the seats. At the very front stood his family. Raphie was in a crisp white tux with a red tie, Donnie was in a white blouse with a purple bow tie and a matching skirt, Mikey wore a flashy neon orange bow tie with an off-white suit, April wore a clean white dress with green eyeshadow and matching green shoes, Splinter wore a stuffy white robe that he kept pulling the collar of, Godrick was at the end wearing a white version of his uniform.
Suzie stood next to and slightly behind their mom. She wore an almost white purple suit with white heels. Her hair was neatly trimmed into a crew cut and she wore an amethyst necklace-earring-bracelet trifecta.
Leo stood in his place and watched Godrick sneak to the end of the aisle. His mother walked through the curtain. He was going to love the photos of Abigail’s dumbstruck face. His mother walked with beauty and grace and was the envy of all. Samantha was in the back, a strained smile etched on her face. Leo narrowed his eyes slightly. He’d have to keep an eye on her.
Godrick escorted his mother down the aisle and bowed his head to her before returning to his seat. The marriage officiant welcomed everybody and thanked everyone for coming, blah blah blah, usual thanks and gratifications. Leo tuned her out in favor of the vows.
Abigail: “Ever since I moved back to the hotel, you’ve never treated me poorly. Even when my business almost failed, you helped me succeed. You were a mother to my only child and loved her just as much as I did. I guess I repaid that with being a mother to Leonardo. I was so alone when David passed, and I’m sure he’s here with us in spirit, cheering us on. I love you Ophelia and I promise to always be with you.”
Leo wasn’t crying. Nope! Maybe a tear building in the corner of his eye, but nothing had fallen.
Big Mama: “Abigail. When I first adopted Leonardo, you were one of the first people who offered to assist me in becoming a single mother. You were always there for me and Leonardo. You are skilled beyond what you even think yourself capable of and you quite literally laugh in the face of adversity. I never thought of myself for marriage. I thought of it as a menial task one does for mutual benefit. That being said, I’m happy to be wed to you. I hope I’ll be a good partner to you and a good mother to Suzanne.”
Okay. Now Leo was crying. He tried to stop the tears but failed miserably. Big Mama’s ring was a simple amethyst encrusted band. Her engagement ring was a band with a spider on top with the abdomen being an average sized purple rhodolite gem. Abigail had a similar wedding ring but had diamonds instead of amethysts. Big Mama bought her her own engagement ring in the shape of a moth. The little metal wings had tiny diamonds and the eyes were diamond too.
Leo loved their rings. They were beautiful and suited them perfectly. He followed his mothers and sister to their table after Big Mama and Abigail kissed and happily kicked his feet. Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo, April, and Splinter sat at a separate table. Donnie and Leo were signing to each other, quietly laughing at the dumb and smart jokes being exchanged.
Dinner was served and he was proud of Mikey for being a great help to the chefs. He made sure to dance with each of his siblings and mothers before he was passed out. He woke up hours later in Raphie’s arms. His mother’s had already left for their honeymoon, leaving him, Suzie, and Godrick in charge of the hotel and Battle Nexus. They’ll only be away for two weeks. What damage could possibly happen to the Grand Nexus?
