Chaper 24: Mother's Day
Big Mama was enjoying dreams of warm beaches, a tropical fruity drink, and the smiling, happy faces of her family. She woke up to the smell of warm waffles with turkey bacon and fresh fruit. Leo was in her bed smiling at her. She was aware of the human holiday of Mother’s Day, Leonardo made it a point to celebrate each year with her and now he had two mothers. Suzie had told her the day before that she was taking Abigail someplace fun for half the day. So she had Leonardo to herself until the afternoon.
“Good morning Baby-shell. What’s all this?”
“Good morning Mama! Happy Mother’s Day!”
Leonardo glomped onto her after setting the tray of food on the nightstand. He loved spending time with his mother. His arm was still in a cast, so he was a little gentler with his hug than normal, but had twice as much love.
“This looks positively scrumptious sweetie. Will you like to eat with me?”
“Yes please! After breakfast I made plans to go to the spa with you! Then we have lunch at The Gourmet! Then you get to spend time with Suzie and then for dinner me and Suzie planned something special!”
“I can’t wait!”
Big Mama and Leonardo ate their breakfast with the occasional funny face or sassy remark. When they finished, Leo all but dragged her to the elevator. There was one place in the Hidden City where they could get top quality spa treatment. There were perks to having the most feared crime lord as your mother. One of them being you don’t get discriminated against because you don’t have hair. The fanciest spa in the Hidden City (separate from the hotel) was hair-racist. Bald people weren’t welcome, but Leonardo was a fast exception, lest they incur the wrath of a mother’s scorn.
Leo held up a bag he packed with comfy clothes and a swimsuit to his mother and, with his own bag in hand, they set off to the spa where they would be waited on hand and foot by the terrified staff. Leo loved making those people’s day a living nightmare and so did his mother.
<~With Abigail & Suzie~>
Suzie took her mother out to breakfast to a diner they both liked in Brooklyn. It was a terrible diner, but it was where Suzie and David met Abigail. She was working as a waitress with a cloaking broach she stole and barely making enough money to scrape by. Suzie and her father frequented the diner because they both loved the too-thick pancakes and too-strong coffee. They both still loved their horrible diner food because it brought them back to simpler times.
After they had breakfast they went on a mini shopping spree. They both had a love and appreciation for clothes, Abigail more-so for obvious reasons, but Suzie took after her mom to a lesser degree. They had fun trying on clothes and making each other laugh. After they bought a few outfits, they went to a magic show performed by the amazing Mezmer-Ron. Then they met with Leonardo and Big Mama at The Gourmet for lunch.
Leo seemed to be having fun subtly mocking Swaggart and his attempts to get into his mother’s pants. It irked the small slider to no end how the human hit on Big Mama IN FRONT OF HER WIFE AND KIDS! ON MOTHER’S DAY! Leo was enjoying the torture he was putting the human through and Big Mama sipped on her virgin mimosa, proud of her baby boy. She had to be professional because she was the owner of the largest hotel in New York, but Leonardo was not. He was her boisterous son with a large personality.
After their lunch Leo took Abigail to the Cornell Botanic Gardens to look at all the pretty flowers and butterflies and bees, then they went to a museum. The featured exhibit at the museum was ancient Egypt. There were tons of mummies, sarcophagi, bricks with hieroglyphics, etc. Leo was excitedly pointing things out and listening intently to the guide. Abigail was enjoying the little Egyption walkthrough with her son.
<~With Suzie & Big Mama~>
Suzie and Big Mama were eerily similar. They both loved the other half of their family to destructive levels. They both had a shared love for the theater. Sure Leo was the most dramatic in their family and the one who acted out and referenced his favorite movies, but Suzie and Big Mama enjoyed going to the theater. They went to Broadway to watch a showing of “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”
The loved the gory musical and bought matching barber knives at the end and met up with Leo and Abigail outside the hotel.
“Baby-shell, Suzanne, where are we off to next?”
“Me and Suzie planned our dinner at Run of The Mill! Tio Hueso allowed me to reserve the whole restaurant for you two to have a couple-y dinner alone! Me and Suzie are gonna eat at the hotel with Raphie, Donnie, and Mikey!”
Suzie gave them a big smile and lifted Leo to her shoulders.
“Have a good dinner moms. I’ll put the kids to bed later.”
“Thank you both. This has been a marvelous Mother’s Day indeed.”
Big Mama and Abigail went to Run of The Mill and had a delicious alfredo pasta with breadsticks and wine. When they returned to the hotel, the kids and Suzie were asleep in Leonardo’s room in a big pile with a movie playing in the background.
A marvelous Mother’s Day indeed.
