#NaNoWriMo

I've done some research and discovered most who've done the #NaNoWriMo don't write every day. Most people who start #NaNoWriMo fail. Why? Because #LifeHappens.

A short history from Wikipedia

National Novel Writing Month (often shortened to NaNoWriMo ), is an annual, Internet-based project that takes place during the month of November. Participants attempt to write a 50,000 word manuscript between November 1 and November 30. Well-known authors write "pep-talks" to keep them motivated throughout the process. The website provides participants with tips for , information on where local participants are meeting, and an online community of support. NaNoWriMo focuses on the length of a work rather than the quality, encouraging writers to finish their first draft so that it can later be edited at the author's discretion. The project started in July 1999 with 21 participants, but by the 2010 event, over 200,000 people took part and wrote a total of over 2.8 billion words.

HAVE A WORD COUNT PLAN... FIRST

To make the #NaNoWriMo  goal of 50K words in 30 days means you must write 1667 words a day, every day, no exceptions.

The best goal plan/suggestion I found for me is to aim for 2.5K words/20 days, that way if I run short or miss a day (have to go to the doctor, family issues/school issues/children issues etc ). I will still have 10 days to add to my word count. If one keeps on writing on then every extra word is frosting and sprinkles on their novel cake.

I saw one plan that suggested 10K words per days for 5 days or 5K words per day for 10 days. These are monster goals. If you can do it, You ROCK! and what are you drinking in your coffee cause I want some of that!

  Make your #NaNoWriMo a doubt-free zone.

Don't let your inner critic speak to you from Nov 1 to Nov 30. JUST WRITE IT!!! Send that voice of doubt on vacation! Tune it out like that annoying person at the bus stop who wants to show you pictures of her father's colonoscopy.  Put it in a 30 day time-out.

To edit or not to edit, that is the question...

Another tip I saw repeatedly, and this will be such a problem for me because I do this as I write; No Editing.

I repeat NO EDITING, Just Writing... *eye twitching uncontrollably at this thought*

This means I won't be posting for the month of November, since my brain damage caused language problems means I need to edit heavily before I post. Sorry #GreedyReaders , I know y'all are used to a chapter every few days.

It is ALL in the prep work...

I was flabbergasted at the the opposing views on this. Purist insist on starting cold on Nov 1 while others insist that the groundwork must be done because of the writing volume. By ground work they don't mean write your rough draft then tweek it. They mean the basics: Plot plan, Character profiles, research. This Isn't a Test, you can have notes! Decide which is the best course for you.
