Egg bombs, a special recipe
Here is an excerpt from my CampNaNoWriMo, The Huntsman's Honor, and further proof that my MC really REALLY can't cook. Hitting 45K today!
Sometimes after writing several stressful, dramatic, emotional chapters, I just need a break, so I write humor. I will admit I write terrible humor, satire - even worse, but I love it. The quirkiness of an odd moment, the irrelevance to the story, the distraction from "oh, poop, this just happened or is about to happen." It's good to have a lighter moment.
Some serious writers will get grumpy!
"There's no place for humor in a serious fiction."
"Humor and satire have their own genre." ( A really hard to write genre! Yes I am Still Failing to turn Scarlet Charlotte and the Alpha's Luna's Omega's Rejected Rogue Cousin into something I would let any one except my cat see.)
Well, I don't care! Personally, I think a little humor is delightful. Whether perfectly plotted in or just an off color moment, seeing the funny side of serious makes characters relatable. I went through a phase where all I was reading was dystopian fiction and the ones I liked were the one who had a sprinkling of humor. The ability to laugh is as important as the ability to love.
So don't be a afraid if a moment to inject a little humor arises, and even if no one gets the joke but you, it's okay. Just do it, and keep on writing.
