"Holding on to anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die"
5:30-6:00
Penelope paced in the surgery waiting room. In her mind, she was somewhere between rage and desperate, completely and utterly without hope, bitter like the black coffee that sat by her coat. She stopped and stared out the window, the rain was making tracks like tears down the glass, the city had gone from gray to shades of slate and molten light as streetlights lit the night. It had been mid-morning when she had watched not one but two vehicles slam into her sister's little compact sedan. One, a van, had slid on the wet roads and knocked Prue out into crossing traffic from behind. The second a much larger delivery truck had not had time to braked before more than a moment before it t-boned Prue.
Penelope's screaming had brought her roommate running. Together, they had rushed to accident scene. Prue had watched a helicopter carry her sister to emergency surgery and heard nothing since arriving and being put in this room.
"Hey," Angela said from behind. "I, uh, brought you some eggrolls and Pho. My ba noi made them... Penny... You need to eat."
"I can't eat," Penny growled, "I already full up."
"You need to eat," Angela repeated. "Anger won't feed you."
"You sound like a fortune cookie," Penny complained. "And I have every right to be angry. If that jerk hadn't cheated on my sister, she wouldn't have been in the accident." She angrily began shoving noodles in her mouth so she didn't yell at Angela.
"The accident could have happened to anyone at anytime. Shane had nothing to do with it."
"Shane deserves to die," Penny snarled.
"Yes, he deserves to suffer for hurting Prue and karma will make him pay, but holding on to your anger is like you drinking poison and expecting Shane to die." Angela quoted worriedly.
"Whatever... Shane is going to suffer...
TIME : 30 minutes Word count 311 (with much distraction from Let's Go Eevee)
He deserves to suffer... No offense to Buddha but I don't have time to wait for the universe to balance things." Penny shook as she said it then she sat silently and finished eating. "Thanks for the Pho and rolls."
Angela packed away the bowl and chopsticks, "When do you think the doctors will come?"
Penelope shook her head, "I don't know. I gave blood for her, told them she was pregnant, but... but I lied... I said she was separated from Shane pending a restraining order and divorce."
Angela scowled, then offered, "I'll call my uncle, we'll have paperwork in the morning. He is still salty after that Melanie-cow cheated on him. She didn't get anything in the divorce." Angela nodded more to herself than anyone else. "He loves those windows Prue made for his office." She called and talked rapidly in Vietnamese for several minutes. "He'll bring over the paperwork tonight."
"Miss Wyatt?"
Penny jumped to her feet. "Yes?"
"All I can tell you is your sister came through surgery, and is in recovery, we'll know more in the morning." He turned to go.
Angela stepped forward. "I'm Angela Phann, my uncle is handling Mrs. McClain's divorce, he is bringing the paperwork tonight. And the paperwork showing my client is the Power of Attorney for her sister and has been since their grandmother passed... Please, Doctor Hall, how severe is Prudence's condition?"
The man glanced over Angela's casual attire but her professional demeanor convinced him. "She is going to need several surgeries to repair her knee, and shoulder. We put a bar in her back to stabilize the broken vertebrae so she won't be paralyzed carrying the baby but there is a very good chance she may never walk again. We removed her spleen and one of her lungs. I will be completely honest with you, you need to brace yourself for the fact that she will probably lose the baby even if she survives."
(Word count after an hour was 647... yeah, watching minionettes team play is too distracting)
