Chapter Fourteen

"Where the hell are we?" Stephanie questioned. None of the buildings looked familiar to her, everything looked like it had been hit by a hurricane. Windows were boarded up, graffiti covered walls, garbage and other miscellaneous items were scattered all over the ground. As far as Stephanie could tell no one seemed to live in this part of town. Beside her Dani groaned and typed furiously at her phone. "What happened?" She waited for an answer but Dani ignored her and kept her eyes glued to the screen. "Dani...? Hello, earth to Daniella."

"Don't call me that." Dani mumbled but still focused on her phone. After another five minuets Dani tucked the phone into her pocket and shut off the engine. "Come on. Daniel's waiting for us."

"Wait, Daniel- like Danny Murillo? Theresa's boyfriend?" She asked. Dani just nodded her head.

"That's the one."

"I thought that-" Stephanie quickly closed her mouth when Dani turned and gave her the coldest glare that she had ever seen.

"Come on, they're at the end of the street." She waved Stephanie forward and led her to where Danny was waiting. When they reached the old liquor store Austin came and unlocked the door for them. They rushed past him and headed for the back of the building. Austin made sure that the girls hadn't been followed then wrapped the chains back around the door.

"Hey." Danny greeted shortly as the two females walked into the room. Dani nodded her head towards him then set to coming up with an escape plan for if things took a turn for the worse. Tally, Kyle, and Austin soon joined her and Daniel. They had set Stephanie by the back door as a type of watch dog- she hadn't been happy about that but it was the only way to keep her from getting in their way.

"Me and Kyle will move around the back of the shops and cover Jordon, and Aron; they are covering George, Matt, and Dylan." Daniel pointed to the marked spots on a map. He glanced up at Dani to make sure that she was following. She nodded her head once. "Okay, now Jorel is up in this building with Jeff." He circled a building that was diagonal to where George was parked in the car. "They don't move until Jorel signals them. After that Jorel and Shady are supposed to go around back and sneak into the old arcade to cover all of them from the roof."

"Hold on, all of this for a little bit of cocaine?" Austin asked. Daniel sighed and shook his head.

"I don't know exactly why Shady wants all the big theatrics but whatever he's planning it's obviously something much bigger than just your average drop." Dani spoke softly, all sorts of puzzle pieces -big and small- started falling into place in her mind. In a way she sort of always knew that something bigger was in the works but she could never figure out what. Now she knew. "Are you still willing to help Austin?"

He slowly nodded his head still partially unsure of what help he could be. But his best friend was out there and he needed to help keep him safe. "What do I have to do?"

"You and Tally will circle around the block and cover Daniel and Kyle from the third floor. There's a busted window on the east side when you walk in, use that as a vantage point." All four boys stared at Dani, jaws slack and eyes wide. She shrugged it off and headed off the the other room to gather their weapons.

When she came back each of the boys had the customized masks that they had put together a couple nights ago. The whole mask idea may seem ridiculous to some people but you could never be too sure who might be watching. She smiled to herself and handed them their own gun and pack of bullets. While she strapped a knife to her calf Daniel handed her a mask. She lifted her hair up so that it was easier for Daniel to strap it onto her face. As he tied the straps he whispered, "Remember to keep Steph close to you and stay at least one hundred feet behind George when tailing him." She nodded her head and grabbed a pocket knife for Stephanie.

Tally pulled up his sleeve to check the time; 3:56pm. He looked around the room to see if everyone was ready, they all had the masks on and weapons ready. Tally smiled to himself underneath his own mask. "Let's go." He said.

Jorel looked around at his surroundings, his heart raced in his chest. This isn't going to end well, he thought. He tried his best to slow down his heart rate but it seemed nearly impossible with Shady by his side. Out the corner of his eye he saw an evil smirk pull up at the corner of Jeff's mouth. "Relax JDog. It'll all be over soon." He said lowly. This didn't help the Italian calm down. If anything it made him even more nervous than before.

"Not helping." He stated. Jeff shrugged his shoulders. Jorel shook his head then went back to monitoring the street. Down in the car George, Matt, and Dylan waited for the signal from Jorel to move. Across the street Jordon and Aron waited in an alley as backup for George and them. Jorel shook his head at himself. We really should've brought Austin and a couple other guys to cover our asses, he thought.

But what Jorel hadn't known was that Danny and Kyle were moving into position to cover two of his friends. Austin and Tally were already at the other end of the block and trying to get to their position. All that was left was Dani and Stephanie. Both girls had went the long way around to get to the alley that was across the street from George's car.

"How much longer?" Matt asked from the backseat. He too didn't feel too good about the situation and was eager to get this done and go home. George sighed heavily and told him that he didn't know. Matt groaned and fell back against the seat. "This is taking too long."

"What did you think it would easy this time? Hell I wouldn't be surprised if a couple cops were nearby just waiting for one of us to move."

"You're not helping Dylan." Matt grumbled.

"Being honest."

"Guys shut the hell up," George reached back and grabbed his backpack. "It's time."

A huge grin covered Dylan's face as he pulled his gun from out of the glovebox and slid it into his hoodie. "'Bout damn time." He turned in his seat to hand Matt some extra bullets. "Come on faggot." Matt rolled his eyes. Before he got out of the car he sent a quick text to Daniel then stuffed his phone in his pocket and followed behind Dylan and George. His eyes scanned the street as they made their way over to the drop off spot. Everything looked calm, nothing caught his eye that would make him feel like they had to turn back. Okay maybe this will go over smoothly, his eyes flicked up to the building where Jorel and Shady were hiding in. Jorel gave him the signal to keep moving, Matt nodded his head.

"We good?" George asked.

"Yeah keep moving. They should be coming soon." Out the corner of his eye he saw a small shadow move in one of the alleys. Matt stopped walking and turned his head to get a better look.

"What is it?"

Matt moved a bit closer, Dylan shadowed him just in case someone was trying to get the drop on them. Once Matt was close enough he saw that the shadow belonged to a small female wearing a blue mask. At first Matt was tempted to call George over, but when she raised her mask he saw that it was Dani. She put a finger to her lips, silently begging him to keep quiet. He shook his head at her then backed away. He wanted to tell George that she was here but Matt knew that if he did then George would focus more on trying to get Dani out of here rather than what they had to do. 'Fine.' He mouthed to her and moved back towards the street. George arched an eyebrow at him. "It was just a stray cat." He said. George nodded his head and waved them forward.

Dani let out the breath that she had been holding in. Stephanie moved out from behind the dumpster and pulled Dani to her feet. "You're lucky that it was Matt who saw you and not George." She whispered harshly. A sigh slipped past her lips, "So now what?"

"We follow them, but at an even further distance."

"You're going to get us killed."

Dani turned sharply on her heels to face Stephanie. Anger rolled off of her as she glared at the younger girl. "If you're too scared then you are free to wait here while I try to save my boyfriend and your idiot cousin."

Stephanie took a step away from Dani and held her hands up at her sides as if to say I surrender. Dani shook her head, "Do what you want but I'm going after them." She said and tugged her hoodie over her head. When Dani reached her arms up her shirt rode up exposing her dad's old gun. Stephanie's eyes went wide when she saw it sticking out of Dani's waistband. "Is that a gun?!" She couldn't believe that Dani would bring a gun with her. Tally and the other guys were the ones that she had expected to carry a firearm but not Dani. What did she expect to happen today?

Dani rolled her eyes and tugged the hoodie down. "Yes. Yes it is a gun now please shut up." Thankfully from that point of Stephanie kept her mouth shut and followed quietly behind Dani. Halfway down the street George came to a stop in front of an run down apartment complex, Matt and Dylan stood on either side of him. They all scanned the area looking for anything out of the ordinary. When Dylan turned around Dani grabbed Stephanie and ducked in to a store. From where they were hiding Dani had a clear sight of the apartment building that Austin and Tal were supposed to be. Silence met them as they waited for any type of signal from Austin. If Austin flashed a red light that meant that the guys were in trouble, if he flashed a blue light that meant that they were in the clear.

Soon the silence was broken by the sound of a truck coming down the road. Dani took her mirror out of her pocket and positioned it to where she could at least see who got out of the truck. When the driver side door opened she saw a dark skinned make jump out. He wore a black shirt that had nine tally marks on it with the word Lives underneath them. The male was soon joined by a short blonde female that sported the same logo, but in tattoo form and on her exposed hip. Something about that logo felt familiar to Dani.

"See you guys aren't so stupid after all huh." The male said coming up to George. "You got what we came here for?"

George didn't say a word, all he did was toss the backpack at the man. "It better all be here or else we gonna have a problem."

"It's all there Truth. All one hundred mil worth." Dylan said pointing at the bag.

Truth scoffed and opened up the bag. "I'll be the one to decide that." He said as he dug through it and pulled out bag after bag of cocaine. After he went through and counted each bag he put them back in and handed them off to the girl. "Now where is Shady anyway? Said he would be here himself."

"Oh believe me he's here." George stated. He kept his eyes locked on Truth. "You just don't know where."

"Oh so you got jokes now huh white boy?" Truth chuckled lowly. His smile faded away as he lunged forward, grabbed George and twisted him around into a headlock. The female pulled out a gun and pointed it back and forth between Dylan and Matt. She smirked when they both put their own guns back in their hoodies. "Good looks Arina." Truth told the girl. "Now I thought I told ya boy not to play no games with me."

From Austin's spot he grabbed the light and flashed it for Dani. She quickly pulled her gun out of her jeans and shot a couple rounds into the air -that was her signal to Daniel that things were bad. Everything from that point on became a blur of screaming, bullets, and blood. The only thing that Dani remembered clearly was that when she had moved to go help George someone had come up behind her and knocked her out with a brick.
