Chapter Nine: The Woman.

First we needed to figure out the meaning of the prophecy. We all sat together on the beach thinking of the weird person and her prophecy.

"Are they usually this hard?" Joshua whined.

"Yeah and sometimes, if you're unlucky, they're harder," Sloth groaned, "this requires so much energy!"

We continued to ponder over this.

"Right so we know that the whole seven and two thing means all nine of us," Lust wrote on top of the line nine of us, "and the previous lines are talking about the chalice." He finished writing on the lines talking about power of birth and chose, talking about the Malum.

"Father's dream is retrieving the chalice," Pride added.

"Where lovers glance? Could that be this beach?" Joshua asked.

"Why this beach? There are no lovers here," Wrath spat.

"Ummm, you see, Maia and I kissed here so I guess you could say we are lovers," Joshua explained. I felt the eyes of Wrath and Lust on me by I couldn't meet their eyes. An uncomfortable silence settled in the RV and wanted to shrink into a hole and die.

"Anyways..." Gluttony said, breaking the silence, "we need to figure out the rest so if the lovers thing is the beach then where did friendships take a chance? And I don't see antiques."

A collective sigh of disappointment was heard as we all began to move around. I felt as if my lungs were constricted so I announced I was going for a walk.

"I could come with," Joshua offered.

"N-no thanks, I'm good."

I walked out of the RV and sat by the beach. I needed a moment to clear my mind. I love Joshua more than anyone on the Earth, but something felt so wrong. I really felt happy when Joshua kissed me but something at the back of my head, a nagging voice, is telling me that what I'm doing isn't going to make me happy.

I grabbed a rock and hurled it into the ocean. I did it again and again and again till my shoulders began to ache and beg for me to stop.

"Angry?" Someone asked.

I turned around and saw a girl about my age. She wore a white dress and had red hair flowing till her hips. Her face was perfectly symmetrical and her green eyes shone in the sunlight.

"Yeah, no...I don't know," I replied.

"Is this seat taken?" She pointed at the place next to me.

"No you can sit," I offered.

She sat down and hugged her legs and that's when I noticed the tattoo on her ankle. It was a vine, all the way around her ankle.

"That's a nice tattoo," I complimented.

"Thanks. What's wrong? You seemed angry," she pressed.

"I'm confused."

"About?"

"My best friend, who is like family, kissed me today. We have a long history, he stayed with me when I didn't want to stay on Earth anymore. But I met these two guys who are amazing and I can't help liking them."

"You have a real issue!"

"Yeah," I sighed.

"Well, I think you should listen to your heart."

If my heart is in a million pieces, which piece do I follow?

I guess she noticed I wasn't content with her advice so she continued, "your heart thinks emotionally and your brain thinks logically. We usually listen to our heart because we make mistakes but smart people use their brain. When it comes to love, your heart knows what to do. Your brain will only think about the positives and negatives of that person. What does your brain say and what does your heart say?"

"My brain says Joshua but my heart says one of the two boys."

"Listen to your heart," she commanded.

"Who are you talking to?" A voice asked. I turned around to see Wrath standing with his hands in his pockets.

"Oh I'm talking to-" I turn to the girl in white but she wasn't there, "there was a girl here!"

"No one is there. I saw you here couple minutes back, no one was here Maia."

We've been thinking about the prophecy for the past couple hours and we were starting to get tired. We decided to go to bed and continue in the morning.

I went to bed and thought of the prophecy. The next day, we didn't have any progress whatsoever so we spent the next day contemplating the reading.

I was sitting in the barbecue area of the RV park, when I got fed up. I marched back to the RV and slammed my fists on the table.

"Tell me everything about prophecies!" I commanded.

"Prophecies usually consist of things from the past and the future," Sloth explained, "and they talk about things based on the people who were present at the time of the reading. Whenever prophecies give hints about the future, they always come true. No matter what."

"So are you guys sure the chalice is on Earth?" I questioned.

"Yeah, Fa-Lucifer told us it's on Earth," Wrath informed.

I thought about Wrath and how he seemed to be the most affected due to the death of Azazel. I noticed how many times he called Lucifer Father but always corrected himself. It was as if he finally decided that Lucifer doesn't qualify as his father.

"And you believe him?" Joshua persisted.

"That's the only lead we've got! Plus it wouldn't be on Hell because Lucifer would sense it and people on Heaven can't steal stuff because well then they would be in Hell," Wrath lectured.

***

As the sunset, my mind worked rapidly trying to understand the prophecy now that I've gotten more information. Nothing. It was as if something is blocking my mind, trying to make us fail.

My mind kept drifting back to the woman in white. Who was she? How did she vanish? Was I imagining the whole thing? Why did she feel so real?

A low knock erupted my thoughts as Joshua stood by my bed with his arms crossed over his chest. I looked at him as he sat across me on the bed.

"Hey Captain!" Joshua piped.

"Evening General!" I bellowed, in my deep voice. We both started giggling hysterically. Joshua and I had this on going joke where our parents forced us to join our school play and I was the Captain and Joshua was the General. I could sense that he was trying hard to make me cheer up but deep down I knew he was scared as well.

"Still thinking about the riddle?" He asked, with an eyebrow raised.

"Yeah," I sighed.

He placed a hand on my knee, "don't sweat it! You'll figure it out! You're the smartest girl I know!"

"Josh, I'm the only girl you know!" I laughed.

"Touchè," he sighed.

"Help me take my mind off that stupid prophecy!" I groaned.

He smirked, "I can help with that," he approached me and my heart began racing, beating against my chest. In a swift movement, he captured my lips and my heart felt like it was going to burst. My arms, instinctively, move to his neck and his arms rested on my hips. Without breaking the kiss, he got up and pushed me back towards my pillows. I was so invested in the kiss that I didn't notice his sudden movement and now he was practically on top of me. My fingers made its way to his hair and tugged on it, for what reason? I don't know. It seemed right. For a guy, who doesn't look at girls for more than three seconds, he knew what he was doing. I tugged on his shirt craving more friction between us, maybe it was Lust messing with me, yet it felt so real to me.

"Sorry to interrupt your moment, but we have an issue," Sloth said, rather bored.

Author's Note:
Please don't hate me for making Maia and Joshua have moments. Yo she loves him no matter what!

Not much happens in this chapter and my school just started today so I might delay the next chapter but I'll try to upload it as soon as humanly possible!

Question: What do you think the prophecy means?
