chapter 3
I spent the morning of the quidditch match with Draco playing seekers matches on the pitch. After an hour we both touched down and I pulled the band out of my hair.
"Saturn you're going to do fine," He said taking the snitch from my hand. "Mother and Father might not even show up, they have only been to like one of mine."
"They have never been to one of mine." I rolled my eyes as I pulled my hair back into a bun, using clips to hold back some of the shorter pieces at the front. "I'm just worried about playing Potter, we have only ever won one game against Gryffindor."
"Well today make that two," He said placing a hand on my shoulder as we walked towards the locker rooms.
"I'll see you later, you should go get ready game starts in an hour." I said at the door.
He smiled and said, "Good luck." As he walked back to the castle.
The rest of the team slowly arrive and before I knew it we were stood in the pitch in front of the Gryffindor team.
I scanned the stands, finally spotting my parents and Draco sat with the teachers. I swallowed down the bump in my throat and took a deep breath, trying to slow my racing heart.
I didn't listen to Madame Hooch, I kept my eyes on the snitch, lifting off the ground the minute the snitch did and flying in the same direction, Potter was close behind.
I quickly lost the snitch but flew straight up, high above the stands, watching out for the snitch. I watched Potter below while flew circles around the pitch.
I flew a bit lower, feeling the cold air biting at my exposed skin, and after what felt like forever I finally spotted the snitch flying next to the teachers stand.
I took off, flying straight towards it, noticing that Potter had not yet seen the snitch. As I got closer the snitch suddenly plummeted down, I followed it and chased it across the field, causing for Potter too see it and begin following closely behind.
His broom was quickly close to mind, the front of his broom at the middle of mine. I looked at the snitch in front of me with my arm reached out and then at the distance to the ground. A fall from this height would hurt, but not seriously injure me.
I jumped off my broom and towards the snitch, grabbing it in my hand as I fell to the ground. I landed hard on my back, feeling the air leave my lungs as I hit the ground but the feeling of the snitch in my hand over powering the pain.
"Malfoy has caught the snitch! An amazing win for the Ravenclaw team!" I hear Lee Jordan shout over the announcements.
I stagger up as I listen to the crowd, holding the snitch high in the air. I look over too where my parents are sat, Draco jumping up and down, my mother smiling and clapping politely, and my father who sat un moving but with the slightest smile on his face.
I grabbed my broom and ran over to the rest of the Ravenclaw team to celebrate, giving Cho a hug as she ran up to me. "I knew I made the right decision!" She shouted.
I looked up at the stands to see a group of Slytherins celebrating with the Ravenclaws and a disappointed crowd of Gryffindors.
As everyone went to the locker room to change and celebrate I walked towards where I saw my family standing and waiting. I held my broom in my hand and walked towards them, trying to hold back a smile.
Draco walked towards me and gave me a hug, and my mom placed her hand on my shoulder and smiled. "You did very well Saturn," She said.
My Father held out his hand and I shook it. "Your barrel roles were a bit sloppy and you probably could have caught the snitch without jumping off your broom, but you made your house proud." He said.
"Thank you, I'm happy you were able to attend. I was very happy when my position changed and i'm pleased to be off to a good start," I said. "I was hoping to introduce you to Professor Umbridge, however I don't see her around."
As if on cue she showed up behind my parents and started walking towards us. "Mr and Mrs Malfoy! Amazing to meet you two. Saturn has been an amazing student of mine." She said as she stood next to me.
I silently moved my hand to charm my hair and put every fly away back in place. "Thank you very much professor, I have been telling my parents about how I hope to begin an apprenticeship with you soon."
"Speaking of that Saturn, I think now would be the best time too offer you an apprenticeship, with your whole family here to celebrate with you. It will only be once a week to start with but I'm sure that over time you will be able to work harder and gain a better position." She said in her high pitched voice.
I couldn't help but smile as she said it and I shook her hand, as did my parents. "This will be an amazing experience for Saturn," my father said. "Draco has had much more work in the ministry and it's time for Saturn to catch up to that."
"Well, I hope you have a good time celebrating and I will see you on Thursday Saturn," The professor said as she walked away.
"We are very proud of you Saturn," Mother said as she placed a hand on my shoulder, the closest thing I have ever received to a hug.
"Go celebrate with your win Saturn and we will see you soon." Father said, him and my Mother apparated away and I turned to Draco, jumping on him as I gave him a hug.
He hugged me back but we quickly let go. "I can't believe you did it!" He squealed.
I smiled and clapped my hands together in response, feeling my braids hitting the back of my head. "Looks like everything is starting to work out!" I said in response.
The quidditch celebration lasted long into the night and I had even continued the celebration in the Slytherin common room after the Ravenclaws ended. I sat in the common room with Pansy as she stroked my hair. "You're doing great darling," she said, in almost a whisper.
I stayed silent for a moment. "Yeah, took me long enough."
"You have always been great, you just haven't accepted it, you're only agreeing now because your parents agree that you are doing great." I stared at her wide eyed. I had never told her about any of my issues with my parents. "Yeah Draco told me that you were thinking about becoming a death eater. And all about how you made him spend all summer helping you learn wandless magic. I was shocked that you were able to teach that to yourself in a summer."
"Draco really can't keep his mouth shut. If we are telling secrets about Draco he has told me all about your love affair with Crabbe, which honestly, is embarrassing." I laughed.
After an hour we both ended up falling asleep. I couldn't help but think about how different my life would be if I were sorted into Slytherin instead of Ravenclaw. How my parents would have treated me and how the rivalry between Draco and I would have been less academic and more social and athletic. My friends and life would have been different and I would have much less pressure to prove myself. But I guess I will never know what that life would be like.
