Chapter 2

While Professor Umbridge may have been the worst teacher to grace the halls of Hogwarts she was the key to my parents accepting me.

I sat at the end of the Ravenclaw table and pushed food around my plate. An apprenticeship with her could be great, I could be her assistant spend time in the ministry with her and then I would have more power.

I quickly left the great hall as soon as I got the opportunity and went straight to Umbridges office, grateful that the other prefects were chosen to guide the first years.

It took her 20 minutes to get to her office from dinner, where she looked surprised that I was waiting.

"Hello Professor," I started, walking towards her to shake her hand. "I'm Malfoy, Saturn Malfoy, I was hoping to be able to do an apprenticeship with you. I have heard about you from my father and I can't think of a greater or stronger women to guide me."

She looked at the Ravenclaw crest on my robes. "I have heard of you from your Father, you learned wandless magic over the summer, right?"

"Yes I did professor, I spent the whole summer learning. I happened to learn wordless magic at the same time. I always like to challenge myself, taking the next step to further my studies outside of school." I smiled at the slight brag, I felt like i was towering over her with the slight heels on my shoes, yet she still looked me up and down.

"Impressive, considering you're only a 5th year. I'll look to see if I have anything available and i'll let you." She said as she walked into her office.

I walked away with a smile and made my way to the common room.

The first few weeks back at school went by well. I always made sure to get to Umbridges classes early and be the last to leave in order to ask questions.

I didn't have any luck with her until one day while walking out of class I over heard Potter and his stupid friends talking. "There's no way that she seriously thinks we will learn anything without our wands it's absolutely insane!" Potter exclaimed, Granger and Weasley nodding along with him. "We have to do something, we have to tell Dumbledore."

I walked over to them and scoffed. "Well Potter, if you paid more attention in the lessons then you would understand how important it is to know the theory behind the spells you cast. I'm sure you and your mudblood friends are unable to understand that."

"You know what Malfoy, theory won't get us anyone in a battle against Voldemort," Weasley bit back at me.

"Oh please Weaslebee we all know that Potty made that up for a bit of attention. Clearly being the chosen one isn't enough for him." I said back with a sneer.

"Your family of death eaters should know damn well that he's back considering you all warship him," Potter said getting closer to me. He only stopped when our faces were mere inches from each other.

"At least I have a family," I remarked back. He reached for his wand but I moved my arm upwards sending the wand flying back. The three of them gave me a shocked expression, but after a moment a hex went flying over my shoulder and hitting Potter in the chest, sending him flying back.

I turned around to see Draco strutting towards me, wand out, when I turned around again Weasleys fist connected to my face.

Before I got the chance to reply we heard Umbridges voice. "What is going on here!" She demanded.

She dragged the four of us to her office, where she gave me a bag of ice for my face and allowed Draco and I to sit down, forcing the trio to be stood.

I looked around at the pink walls of the room covered in plates with cats within them. The pink chair I was sat on was uncomfortable and I don't think she owned a quill that wasn't pink.

I think the vile decor of the room added to the tension between everyone.

"Professor you have to understand that Malfoy started this! We were hair defending ourselves!" Harry said before anyone else got the chance to speak.

"Now now Harry, let's see what Miss Malfoy has to say before we jump to any conclusions, considering she is the victim in this situation," Umbridge said, causing Potter to stare daggers at me.

I sniffled, hoping a few tears would form in my eyes. "I over heard all three of them saying horrible things about your teaching method," I started.

"That's not true!" Granger interrupted.

The professor stood up. "Miss Granger you will not interrupt Miss Malfoy while she is speaking!"

I continued as she sat back down. "So I wanted to take the time to explain to them why it worked so well, because I want to ensure all of my fellow students are able to get the best education they can and continue to learn as well as possible. However, they did not want to hear it and they threatened to hex me after saying you-know-who has returned. I'm so lucky that Draco was nearby to defend me!"

I heard Weasley and Potter scoff behind me. "Well, it sounds like we may have a bit of a misunderstanding." Umbridge started. "I think it's only fitting if you three get a weeks worth of detention and apologize to both Miss and Mr Malfoy for the trouble you have put them through."

I turned around and smirked at Potter.

"I am sorry Malfoy that you are so brain washed that you think that you're right," Potter said slowly while rocking on his heels.

"Correctly Potter!" Umbridge stated.

"I'm sorry for our misunderstanding," Potter nearly shouted before walking out of the room, Granger and Weasley following closely behind.

"Draco, please will you take Saturn to the hospital wing," Umbridge said, her focus turning to a piece of paper in front of her. Draco and I were at the door when she called, "Saturn, there may be a position for you soon."

"Thank you so much Professor," I smiled as I walked out the door.

Once Draco and I were on the staircase up to the hospital wing he turned to me and asked. "What did she mean a position open?"

"Well on the first day of school I went to her asking for an apprenticeship or something, you know, to impressive Father considering it would be work in the ministry," I said with a shrug.

"I'm glad you are considering other things," Draco said, grabbing my shoulder to stop me. He reached over and fixed my tie and wiping blood off my cheek. "So that's why you have been arse kissing so much?"

"Oh yeah, I really want this," I said. "I think it would make Father really impressed."

The following few days I anxiously waited for a letter or anything from Umbridge. If I got this apprenticeship then I wouldn't be thinking about becoming a death eater or learning dark magic, I could earn power and impress my father through the ministry.

I sat in the common room close to midnight working on the recent defense homework when Cho Chang approached me. "Hey Malfoy, you're playing quidditch this year right?" She asked

I held my tongue, remembering I have to be as polite as possible to people on the quidditch team so I don't loose my place. "Yeah I am," I nodded.

"Well, I know that I've never been a chaser before but I was hoping you would be open to switching positions." She asked. "The stress is a bit too much and you are a much faster flyer than I am. I just haven't enjoyed being seeker the last year."

Being a seeker is easily the most respected position in the game, something that my Father would like to hear. "I don't mind, you can have my chaser position if you want," I said, trying to make it seem like I was doing her the bigger favor, and not the other way around.

"Thank you so much Saturn! I'll tell Remy that you agreed to switch so that at the next two practices before the game we are training the right positions," she said as she went back up the stairs to the girls dorms.

I grabbed a fresh piece of parchment and dipped my quill into the ink and started writing.

Dear Mother and Father.
I was asked to become the seeker of the quidditch team and my first match as seeker is this Saturday. It is against Gryffindor so it will be an interesting match. If you have the time it would be lovely to see you there to watch.

I also wanted to share that I have spoke to Professor Umbridge about a possible apprenticeship and she said that she will soon have something available. She said that I would be very valuable.
I hope to see you on Saturday
S. Malfoy

I folded to paper up and transfigured a separate piece of parchment info an envelope, writing 'Mother and Father' on top.

My walk to the owlery was cold but I soon found my horned owl, Cassiopeia, and handed her the letter and a treat. While I was stroking her I heard foot steps coming up the stairs, I quickly casted a Nox and stayed quiet.

As the light from the persons wand appeared in the doorway I soon saw it was Harry Potter, looking at me as though I wasn't allowed there.

"What are you doing here malfoy?" He sneered at me.

"Well I could ask you the same thing," I said.

"Nothing," He said quickly. "I asked you first."

I allowed Cassiopeia to walk into my arm. "Well i know this might surprise you, but i am sending a letter, which is what people usually do in the owlery."

He rolled his eyes as Cassiopeia flew away. " You shouldn't be here at this time." He said.

"Neither should you, and I happen to be a prefect so I think i'll take 5 points from Gryffindor for being our after curfew." I smirked as I pushed past him. "What did you think i was doing here after all? Planning murder?"

"I wouldn't rule that out," He murmured.

"Well i'll see you at the quidditch game on saturday,"  I remarked as i walked down the stairs. "I hope that you won't be too intimidated by me being the seeker and all, considering we have the same broom you won't be able to use that to win all your games."

As I walked back to the common room I suddenly became aware of the pressure that i had placed on myself by inviting my parents. The need to win over took me and my main interest became winning this game.
