Chapter IX: A Day at the Beach
Author's Note: A few business items I need to address before we get to the story. First, this chapter will, unfortunately, be the last of this series. I cannot express enough how much I appreciate all your support for my work, and I hope I can continue to deliver quality stories you love. That being said, your character will not be involved in the battle at the docks that takes place at the end of Volume 1. I know, disappointing, but trust me, it's important for character development and story progression in the next Volume. Instead, while Team RWBY is searching for Blake and getting into scuffles at the docks, you will be spending the day with Team JNPR at the beach.
Reader's POV:
You had decided not to mention to Team RWBY that you had spoken to Blake the night before. She needed space, and you thought it best if it was given to her. While the rest of her team was extremely worried, you knew that she was more than capable of protecting herself, and that it was highly unlikely she would do anything reckless. Sure, she might beat up a few thugs, but other than that you trusted her to stay safe. Team RWBY went out to look for Blake, but as the week had ended, you were now on your rotation with Team JNPR for the next seven days. Still, you told Team RWBY that if they ran into any trouble to give you a call. You're still part of their team after all.
That being said, the rest of your weekend is devoted to socializing with Team JNPR. Since your promise to Yang, you haven't had much of a chance to get to know Jaune any better, as he had been spending much of his time with Cardin. Today you and Team JNPR were heading to the beach where you hoped you and Jaune would get the chance to hang out. Before you can start the day though, you need to hit the shops of Vale. It has recently come to your attention that you don't own much in the way of swimwear. Thus, while the rest of the team is out gathering food for the day, you wander through the streets wondering what exactly it is you're supposed to wear to the beach. You walk into a small clothing store and ask one of the employees to direct you to the swimwear. You're lead to a small section towards the back of the shop where you're greeted by large pictures of shirtless men and scantily clad women.
This can't possibly be the right section. You think to yourself. However, upon double checking with the employee, it turns out you are in fact looking at what people wear to the beach. Searching the various racks and displays, you feel slightly embarrassed at how little these outfits seem to cover. While the men's bathing suits are a simple pair of shorts, you know that if Pyrrha and Nora are as scarcely covered as the mannequins in the store, that you'd be in for an uncomfortable experience. Not really sure if there's much of a difference between the different items, you choose a simple pair of black bathing trunks that come to just below your knees, accompanied by a (F/C) towel. Purchasing the items, you store them in your duffel bag and make your way to meet up with the rest Team JNPR.
Arriving at the beach, the five of you make your way to a changing area. Swapping outfits, you store your robes and Rhino's Charge in your bag before exiting the booth, your towel slung over your shoulder. Standing outside waiting for you is Ren. Making your way over to him, the two of you stand in comfortable silence, waiting for Jaune and the two girls to finish changing. Ironically, Jaune is the last one to rejoin the group, dressed in a pair of Pumpkin Pete swim trunks. The team laughs at this, causing Jaune to go red in the face. He's not the only one though. Sure enough, when Pyrrha and Nora approached you and Ren a few minutes ago, you immediately tensed up at the sight of them. While Nora wore a white bathing suit, the chest piece was designed more like a sports bra than a bikini top, and the bottoms were accompanied by a white skirt that fell to above the knees. Pyrrha on the other hand wore a simple red bikini that left little to the imagination.
Feeling your body tense up, you determinedly stare past the two girls and off into the distance, doing your best not to picture Yang in a similar state of undress. Once you had all reassembled, you made your way to the sandy shore of the ocean. The beach was surprisingly empty for the weekend, though you suppose that was due to the preparations of the Vytal festival, which was sure to draw the attraction of the citizens, it only being held in Beacon once every decade or so. Still, the lack of other beach goers made for a relaxing, quiet atmosphere, allowing you to hear the ocean waves crash against the shore, and the sound of the passing seagulls flying overhead.
Taking the sunscreen from Pyrrha, you rub a thin layer of the protective lotion over your exposed skin before following Jaune, Nora, Pyrrha, and Ren into the water. Wading into the cool water, you dive beneath the surface and swim out further into the ocean. Resurfacing, you look back to see the rest of your team following you. Jaune and Pyrrha slowly wading their way into the waters, while you could see Ren's figure beneath the surface. Nora on the other hand was no where to be seen. At least not until she emerged from behind you and pushed your head back under the water. "Surprise!" She yelled.
Coughing up water as you stood up, you watch Nora looking mischievously at the rest of her team. Pulling back her arm, she brought it flying across the surface creating an almighty wave that drenched Pyrrha and Jaune. She then turned her attentions to a recently emerged Ren. Shaking the water from his hair, Ren noticed Nora's expression and immediately began backing away from her.
"Nora, no. No, stop. Nora wait. Not again!" He yelled as Nora swam after him, pulling him under the water.
"WATER FIGHT!" Nora bellowed, standing on Ren, trapping him under the water. Shortly after, she fell under the water as Ren's head broke the surface.
Chaos ensued as Nora's inhuman strength sent wave after wave pouring over you and the others. Jaune was knocked backwards and into the water at the force of the waves, but you and Pyrrha stood your ground, trying to match strength and size of Nora's splashes. After a few minutes, Nora's assault suddenly stops, and you look over to see Ren had grabbed her from behind and dove backwards into the water, dragging her with him. A couple of seconds later, the two reemerge, Ren standing tall while supporting Nora on his shoulders. Staring at them confused, you suddenly hear a shriek come from behind you as Jaune scoops Pyrrha up onto his shoulders and walks over to face Ren and Nora. You stare at your team, curious to see what they're up to.
"Alright cream puffs!" Nora yells from atop Ren's shoulders. "Time to see who's really the top dog of this team!"
Standing to the side as the ocean waves roll over you, you watch in amusement as Nora and Pyrrha fight each other from atop Ren and Jaune's shoulder. A few minutes into the fight you hear Nora shout down to her base, "Alright Ren, get ready! Just like we practiced!"
"Wait Nora! We never practiced anything!"
Nora pushes off Ren and so she's completely standing on his shoulders. It works, for a second, then Ren loses balance and he and Nora fall into the water with a loud splash. Laughing as the two come back to the surface, Nora sends a glare your way.
"What are you laughing at?" She asks, sending a large splash your way, knocking you over.
Getting to your feet you see the rest of your team laughing at you, Pyrrha still atop Jaune's shoulders. Smirking to yourself, you pull your arms back. As it so happens, as you were watching Nora and Pyrrha's fight, you were absorbing the kinetic energy of the waves', so they'd die before reaching Ren and Jaune, thus not interfering with the match. Now releasing the energy as you bring your arms forwards, to send a small tidal wave towards your team. Watching their faces fall as the shadow of the wave descends upon them, you laugh loudly as they are all washed to shore.
Around five in the evening you all decide to take a break for dinner. There was just one small problem.
"Aw man." Jaune groans. "We forgot a grill!"
"Don't worry Jaune. I'm sure we'll think of something." You tell him. Fetching Rhino's Charge from your bag, you once again infuse it with fire dust. Coiling it on the ground, you place Jaune's shield on top of it and wait for the metal to heat before placing the hot dogs on it. Grabbing two, you decorate them the way you've grown to like over the past few months, before sitting back and taking a bite of one. You smile as you look around at your team. Nora has a plate of half a dozen hot dogs in front of her.
"So Jaune." You say taking a sip of your soda. "I never did hear what that whole ordeal with you and Cardin was about."
"Oh, that." He says awkwardly. "Well, he was threatening me with something that I didn't want to get out. But that's over now. I think he's keeping quiet in gratitude of me saving his life from that Ursa. Haven't talked to him in months now. Still hate the guy though." He says, taking a bite of his hot dog.
"I wish I could have seen your fight with that Ursa." You say. "I'm glad to hear your skills have improved."
"Yeah, well. It's all thanks to Pyrrha really. She's been helping me become a better fighter." You look over to Pyrrha to see her trying to hide her blush behind a long sip from her soda. "Well maybe you and I can have a match later in the week."
"Uh, I don't think I've improved that much." He chuckles nervously. The rest of the team laughs with him and you clap him on the shoulder.
After dinner your team introduces you to sandcastles. You find the whole thing very amusing as you attempt to sculpt anything that looks remotely like a castle out of the sand. Looking over at your friends, you see Jaune has just been filling a bucket with wet sand and flipping it upside down. Pyrrha has managed to hand craft a small castle and Ren is looking proudly at his work of art, a miniature replica of Beacon Academy. Looking behind you, your jaw drops as you see Nora standing at the top of a sand castle the size of a small house. It's complete with ramparts, a drawbridge and moat, and it even looks like there's a staircase inside that leads up to the balcony on which she is standing.
"Haha!" She laughs. "I'm queen of the castle! I'm queen of the castle!"
As the sun starts to set, you all decide it's time to return to Beacon. Ren has to drag Nora kicking and screaming away from her fortress, but by the time she's back in her regular outfit she seems to have forgotten about it. Returning to your room, you take a quick shower to wash the sand and salt from your skin, before changing into your robe bottoms and laying down in your bed. You smile to yourself, replaying the events of the day in your head. You're happy Yang yelled at you that fateful day several months ago. Thanks to her, you were far happier than you could ever remember being in your life, surrounded by friends whom you loved dearly. Sun Zhang may have been the place where you were raised, but Beacon was your home now.
Author's Note: And that concludes Male Reader x RWBY: Volume 1/Reader x Yang, my very first fanfiction. Following this chapter will be an Author's Note that really examines just how powerful your character is, as well as a look at Male Reader x RWBY: Volume 2/Reader x Yang.
