Chapter II: Sleeping Arrangements
The rest of the evening passed quietly as the four of you sat around outside appreciating the sight of the setting sun. As the darkness began to overtake the light and the stars began to dot the sky, you retired indoors.
"Come on (F/N)." Yang said, taking your hand and leading you upstairs. "I'll show you to the guest room."
"Actually Yang," Tai interrupts, "the mattress in the guest room was infested with mold and I, uh, had to toss it out this morning."
"Oh really?" Yang asks, crossing her arms.
"Come on," he laughs, "we can't let your boyfriend get sick from a gross mattress can we?"
"And your sure it was out of concern for (F/N)'s safety?" She asks disbelievingly, "And that it had nothing to do with the fact that the guest room is right next to mine?"
"Come one Yang, I wouldn't do that." He laughs, rubbing the back of his neck. "You're a big girl and I trust the two of you. But the bed was just a mess. Tell you what, we'll pull out the couch down here and he can sleep there until I can run into Vale and get a new one."
"Oh! I'll get the extra blankets!" Ruby yells, disappearing up the stairs in a whirlwind of rose petals.
"Yang, you wanna help me clear some space in the living room?" Tai asks.
"Fine." She huffs, walking back down the stairs.
Pushing aside a few chairs and a table, and moving the couch back away from the television, Tai removed the couch cushions and dug his hand into the back of the couch. Pulling a lever, the couch unfolded into a queen size cot.
"Well, it's not the softest thing to sleep on, but it'll do. Sorry 'bout that (F/N)." Tai apologizes.
"Don't worry." You tell him as you sit on the pull out. "I'm used to sleeping on hard surfaces. In fact, this is pretty soft for me."
Tai looks surprised and it seems he's about to ask you something but is interrupted by a large pile of blankets and pillows begin dropped from the staircase and onto his head.
"Sorry dad!" Ruby shouts.
Yang and Ruby help you to arrange the bedding before retreating up the stairs and into their own rooms, Yang giving you a quick kiss. Tai shuts off the kitchen and living room lights, moving over to a lamp sitting on the table next to the couch.
"Hey (F/N)?" He asks, hand on the cord, preparing to turn off the last light. "You know there wasn't any mold on that mattress, right?"
"Yes sir, I know." You answer.
"Alright." He chuckles. "Good night."
"You too."
With that, Tai turns off the lamp and makes his way up the stairs.
You have some difficulty falling asleep, the new surrounding somewhat strange. Tossing and turning in a futile attempt to get comfortable enough that sleep might carry you away, you eventually resign to lay on your back and stare at the ceiling until you can manage to fall asleep. You're almost asleep, drifting on the barrier between consciousness and rest, when you hear noise coming from behind you. Eyes opening wide, you tense up, ready to fight off any intruders foolish enough to invade this house. Hearing the footsteps grow closer, you chance a glance at the source of the noise. In the darkness, you're just barely able to make out the silhouette of a lone intruder. Preparing to strike, you wait until the person begins to pass you by. When they do, you reach over and grab their shoulders, throwing them onto the couch next to you, positioning yourself over them and placing one arm against their throat.
The figure gives a small shout of surprise before slapping you across the face. "(F/N), what the hell!" They shout whisper at you.
"Wait," reaching over to the lamp, you turn it on, flooding the room in a dim light. "Yang?"
"No duh." Your girlfriend whispers angrily.
"Yang, what the hell? You scared me half to death!" You say quietly.
"Look who's talking!"
"Yang, what are you doing awake? It's 2:00 in the morning."
"Well, I uh, I wanted to see you." She grumbles, trying to keep her angry façade going.
"Did you miss me?" You ask, smirking.
"Shut up!" She says, smacking your arm. "It's just really cold in my room and you took all our extra blankets, that's all. It's not because I missed you! Geez, I'm capable of going one night without you by my side. I'm not some clingy li..."
You silence Yang with a kiss, eliciting a small squeak of surprise before she melts into your embrace. "I missed you too." You tell her.
Turning off the lamp, Yang snuggles closer to you, taking hold of your arm and wrapping it around her shoulders. Nuzzling her face into your chest, she holds you around the middle.
"What happens when your dad gets up?" You ask as you rest your chin on top of her head.
"He'll probably freak out." She says.
"Damn." You say. "And he was just starting to like me too."
"Does that mean you want me to leave?" She asks.
"Don't you dare." You respond, tightening your hold around her shoulders.
Taiyang's POV:
Waking up, I look over at my clock. 9:57 am. Man, I slept in a little late. Tossing the blankets off my body I reluctantly roll out of my warm bed and walk into my bathroom. Applying some shaving cream, I give myself a quick shave before tossing on my clothes. Grabbing my scroll, I step out of my room and walk through the halls. I hear Ruby in her room mumbling in her sleep. Chuckling to myself as I hear her threaten someone over taking her cookies, I the creep over to Yang's door. Pressing my ear to the wood I can't hear anything. Good. I think to myself. That means (F/N) didn't try to sneak into her room last night. Seems like he really is a good guy.
As I walk down the stairs I look over to check up on (F/N). Much to my surprise I see my eldest daughter wrapped in (F/N)'s arms, the two of them fast asleep. Of course, it would be Yang that snuck into her boyfriend's bed in the middle of the night, and not the other way around. I should be angry. I want to be angry. But I simply smile at the sight of the two of them, lying there so peacefully. Knowing that I just had to capture such a tender moment, as well as to tease my daughter later on, I retrieve my scroll from my pocket and capture a picture of the two of them. Crap! The flash was on.
(F/N) and Yang begin to slowly stir, Yang sitting up and rubbing her eyes. "Dad!" She shouts seeing me with my scroll out. "What are you doing?!"
"You two looked so adorable together, I just had to get a picture! Smile!" I tease, taking another picture.
"Dad! Cut it out!"
"Aw, come on! What did you expect? Sneaking down here in the middle of the night, you had to know I'd find you!"
"He has a point." (F/N) says. "Besides, I much prefer this to the alternative."
"Your boyfriend's not wrong." I say. "Most dads would be freaking out right now."
"What's all the yelling about?" A sleepy Ruby asks from the staircase, rubbing her eyes, followed by an energetic Zwei. Once her vision focuses she catches sight of Yang and (F/N) in bed together. "Oh gross!" She shouts. "Not again! You two are disgusting! I'm too young for this!" With that Ruby runs back up the stairs where we hear her bedroom door slam.
(F/N) and Yang are laughing at Ruby. I must admit, it was pretty amusing, but I'm more focused on what she said. "What does she mean, 'again'?"
"Nothing." Yang says a little too quickly. "She's just caught us cuddling before is all."
"Yang." I say using my dad voice. "We both know Ruby finds cuddling adorable. So, what did she mean by 'again'."
"Well, she's caught us kissing before. Maybe she thought that..."
"Your daughter and I have slept together." (F/N) speaks up. "As in, we've had sex."
I glare angrily at the two of them. Yang's face burns red and she hides her face in her hand. (F/N) however, is looking me straight in the eyes.
"Care to explain?" I ask through gritted teeth.
"I'm sorry sir, but there really is nothing to explain." (F/N) says.
God, I want to punch him in his stupid face right now!
"I understand that you're angry. And I understand if you want me to leave."
Dammit! Why does he have to be so respectful? It's making it a lot harder to be mad at him! I take several deep breaths to calm myself. "No, you can stay." Yang looks up in surprise. "Just, please tell me you were safe." I almost beg.
"Yeah, dad." Yang says awkwardly. "I'm on the pill."
"Good." I sigh and rub my face. "Just, please don't do anything under this roof."
