FIVE. all of my enemies started out friends

V.   all of my enemies started out friends

Everyone gathered in the Great Hall for the announcement of the three champions. Fleur, Atlas and Olivia's cousin, also put her name in the cup. They came and sat with Sarah and Devore on the Slytherin side. "Are we placing bets? Cause I got ten sickles on Diggory." Said Atlas.

Olivia hit his arm. "You're betting against your own cousin?" She scolded him.

He shrugged. "C'mon, it's Fleur. I doubt she'll last the first task."

She rolled her eyes. "No doubt though, Cedric." Said Morgan with confidence.

"I'm not sure about that. Everyone knows the pretty ones are the first to die." Devore blurted out while looking around the Great Hall.

"Devore!" Olivia scoffed.

"What? Did I lie?"

"Now the moment you've all been waiting for," Dumbledore announced and everybody got quiet. "The champion selection!" The blue flames from the cup erupted and turned a beautiful bluish purple color.  The first name popped out and floated into Dumbledore's hand. "The Durmstrang champion is. . . Viktor Krum!"

"No surprise there!" Devore heard Ron shout from the
Gryffindor table.

Everyone clapped for Viktor and he and his headmaster shook hands with Dumbledore before going to the trophy room. After a few minutes, another beautiful flame rose up from the cup and shot out another name. Dumbledore grabbed it swiftly. "The Beauxbatons campion is. . . Fleur Delacour!"

Olivia rose up from her seat. "That's my cousin!" She cheered happily.

"Go Fleur!" Shouted Atlas and he made a whoop sound.

The last name exited the cup. It was time for the Hogwarts champion and everyone's nerves started to rise. Dumbledore unfolded the name and read it out loud. "The Hogwarts champion is. . . Cedric Diggory!"

The entire castle broke out in cheers and hollers. "Rest in peace, pretty boy." Devore whispered to herself.

"YES!" Atlas bellowed once again and stood up, his arms going up in victory.

"Go, Ced!" Bennet cheered for him as well.

Cedric stood from the crowd that clapped for him and he threw them all a smile. He made his way to the trophy room where Viktor and Fleur were.

"We now have our three champions! But only one will make history." Dumbledore announced but his speech was cut short by the blue cup creating more flames, leaving everyone confused.

"I thought there was only three champions?" Olivia asked.

"There is." Morgan, unsure of herself.

The students and professors watched as another name shot out from the cup and landed in Dumbledore's hand. His blue eyes studied the name and he looked like he wanted to pass out. "Harry Potter," he mumbled to himself but few people heard.

Devore's eyes went wide. She turned in her seat and spotted Harry, looking absolutely petrified. "Of course, why am I don't surprised?" She heard Draco mutter bitterly under his breath.

When the young boy didn't move, Dumbledore yelled
louder. "HARRY POTTER!"

Hermione shoved Harry out of his seat and he stumbled up to the podium. His eyes shifted to the people in the room and boy, they were angry. "He's a cheat!" Someone from the crowd shouted.

"He's not even 17 yet!"

Harry walked nervously through the crowd of angry teenagers, pausing by Dumbledore, and then into the trophy room. "That's impossible. He couldn't have, could he?" Theo Nott questioned from where he sitting at the table.

"He's only 14." Another Slytherin mentioned.

"This competition just got a lot more interesting." Olivia muttered with a sigh.

"Does this mean I'm out ten sickles?"

For an entire week, Harry had been put through the wringer. People were calling him a cheater, making fun of him, and Draco had taken his time to make badges that read Support Cedric Diggory, the real Hogwarts champion that would changed into an ugly green color that read Potter stinks. It was almost disheartening to watch the torture he was going through, especially when there was no way he could've put his name into the goblet.

Devore was walking down the hallway when she saw Hannah and Ernie blocking Harry from going outside. They motioned to their badges. "Take a look at the badge, Potter." Hannah boasted and they all laughed at him.

Harry and Devore had a bond that a lot of people didn't understand. They had a lot in common, with both of them losing a parent. Even though she still had her mother, Devore understood the pain he had to go through every day. They were connected by that thread. Harry was like a brother to her. He never treated her unfairly until she ruined their friendship.

Devore didn't understand why she decided to stick up for him that day, but she did. "Back off Abbott, or I'll just have to add you to my list of people to drown in the black lake." She spat.

Hannah's eyes went wide and she scoffed. "Devore Taylor telling me to be nice? I must be dreaming."

"Unless you want me to knock those crooked teeth back to being straight I suggest you leave." She threatened.

The group of Hufflepuff's gasped and immediately scurried away. Harry stood there in shock, and he blinked a couple of times. "Devore? You didn't have to do that." He awkwardly said, seeing as it was the first time they had spoken since everything happened.

Devore didn't look him in the eye, and she angrily adjusted the collar of her uniform. "Don't get used to it." She dismissed and walked away, the cold breeze hitting her in the face.

She had no idea why she did it. She just felt so angry seeing him look so helpless. But then she felt like a hypocrite, because that's exactly what she was doing to other people.

"Devore Taylor going soft now, isn't she?"

She lifted her head and saw Draco sitting in the tree by her. "Climbing trees now are we, Draco?" She said back, the slightest bit of annoyance in her voice.

"Don't ignore my question, Dev."

"They're give him a hard time."

Draco scoffed. "As if you weren't a couple months ago? What's gotten in to you lately? You're being different."

"If it was Bennet, or you, or Liv, or anyone else I would be acting the exact same way." She argued with him.

Before he could continue, Draco saw someone behind her and he grew a smirk. "Why so tense, Potter? My father and I have a bet you see? I don't think you're gonna last ten minutes in this tournament."

Devore turned around and saw Harry, and she rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on, Draco."

But as always, he ignored her, and hopped down from the tree. Crabbe and Goyle appeared and the three of them staggered forward. "He says different. The thinks you won't last five." The Slytherin's laughed.

Devore stood to the side with her arms crossed and she continued to roll her eyes at their childishness.

Harry had enough. "I don't give a damn what your father thinks, Malfoy!" He yelled and got in Draco's face. "He's vile and cruel, and you're pathetic."

She bit her lip to hide the smirk begging to appear. Her eyes went wide when she saw Draco reach for his wand. "Draco, no!"

Professor Moody practically ran over to them. "Oh no you don't!" He shouted out a spell and within seconds, Draco was transformed into a ferret.

Devore let out the loudest laugh she could produce as Mad-Eye used his wand to make the ferret float.

"Alestor, what is going on here?" Professor McGonagall yelled and she ran over to where the commotion was. Her eyes widened as she spotted the ferret floating. "I-Is that a student?"

"Technically it's a ferret."

Harry and Devore watched with amusement as the two argued and McGonagall ultimately turned Draco back into a human. He scrambled led to his feet and glared at the man, his hair and robes messy. "My father will hear about this!" He seethed.

Mad-Eye began shouting at him and Draco scurried away in fear of him turning him into something else. Devore continued to laugh and Harry came and stood in front of her. Her smile fell slightly. "You didn't say anything to him?"

She only shrugged and her eyes darted to her shoes for a split second. "He deserved it."

When it went quiet, Devore walked away, and Harry watched her. "I've missed you, Dev." He admitted out loud, knowing Ron and Hermione would be pissed at him if they found out.

Devore stopped walking. She squeezed her eyes shut and felt a terrible sickness in her stomach. Her bones chilled painfully. She turned around and faced him again. "Don't let these tossers get in your way, Harry." She spoke gently and walked away again, biting her lip so hard that she felt blood.

When Harry returned to the Gryffindor common room, he saw his house mates gathered by the fireplace. He was still very confused, and he sat beside Hermione, her reading a book, on the couch. He played with his fingers before speaking. "Y'know, Hermione, maybe we should try to rekindle things with Devore."

You would have thought he asked for them to built an atomic bomb. Everybody around them paused and looked perplexed by his suggestion. Fred and George got up from the table in the corner and immediately rushed to sit in front of him. Hermione narrowed her eyes at him. "What do you mean rekindle? Do you not remember she betrayed us?" She brought up.

"She just stood up for me."

Ron had come down the stairs when he heard them. "You guys must be talking about another Devore cause the one I know is a bloody demon." He commented while avoiding eye contact with Harry.

"Go on Harry. Tell us more." Fred insisted and crossed his legs.

George looked at him and smirked. "Why, Freddie? Taking interest in your future wife?" He teased.

"Shove off, George."

"She stood up to Draco for one." Harry mentioned.

"Draco? Her lover, Draco? I find that hard to believe." Hermioe said with a scoff.

"i just think it's time—"

She slammed her book closed. "Are you not understanding what she did? She's the one who turned against us!" She raised her voice and glared.

"Yeah. What even makes you think she'd want to be friends again?" Ron agreed with her.

"I saw it in her eyes. She misses us."

"If she misses us so bad, she can tell us herself."

Since finding out what the first task was, Morgan was freaking out the whole day. The group of friends made their way to the aqueduct field where the first task was taking place. "Dragons? Bloody dragons? When he said dangerous he wasn't joking." She commented as she wrapped her arms around herself.

"Be happy it's not us." Said Devore with a simple shrug.

The twins were walking around with a money box strapped to their necks. The closer she got, the more clear it became that they were taking bets. "Ladies,  good to see you today. Interested in making any bets?" Asked Fred.

"You're placing bets on your friends?" Olivia asked them.

"What's a better way to make money?" The two answered in unison.

"I'll bet on Harry." Devore decided and placed three sickles in Fred's box, her two friends looking at her in shock.

"There we go, Taylor." George exclaimed with a goofy grin.

She smirked and motioned for the girls to follow her.  Fred's light brown eyes followed her as she walked away.

"Wipe the drool away, Freddie. We've got a tournament to watch!"

"Keep joking and I'll throw you in with the dragons."

Draco spotted Devore making her way through the crowd of people and he stood from his spot on the bleachers. "Why didn't you stick up for me the other day?" He asked her, visibly angry.

She had been avoiding him to avoid the conversation. You were acting like a child. You deserved it." She scowled.

Draco glared at her. "You know, I'm beginning to think this little thing we have isn't worth it."

Her face slowly twisted into a hurt expression. "Little thing? Is that all it is to you?"

There was a flash of regret in his eyes that counteracted with the tightness of his jaw. "Seeing as you're becoming friends with Gryffindors now, maybe so." He stood his ground.

Devore gritted her teeth. "Fine then, if that's what you want." She muttered and walked away, leaving him standing there with his mouth gaped open.

From the corner of her eye, she watched him storm back to his spot on the bleachers, and Devore sucked in a breath to keep from crying. "Devore, what's the matter?" Morgan asked her, seeing her upset.

"No, don't be silly. It's just cold." She lied and pressed her hands to her cheeks to make it appear that she was cold.

"DIGGORY, DIGGORY, DIGGORY!"  The crowd cheered when Cedric stepped foot into the arena. He flashed them a perfect white smile but it quickly faded when he came face to face with his dragon, the Swedish Short Snout.

"GO CEDRIC!" Morgan yelled and Devore clapped.

Cedric casted a spell at the dragon, transforming a nearby rock into the form of a dog to distract the dragon. The dog barked, catching the dragons attention and it was quick to sweep the dog up and devour it, much to everyone disparity, and it was enough to get Cedric close to the egg. He quickly grabbed the golden egg and ran back to the arena and everyone erupted in cheers.

When Devore saw Harry exit the tunnel, she felt a pit in her stomach. She brought her hands to her mouth and chewed on her nails. Harry spotted the golden egg and began to hurry, but the Hungarian Horn Tail slammed its tail against the rocks.

"Your wand, Harry! your wand!" Hermione shouted but she wasn't loud enough. Harry apparently couldn't hear her because the dragon continued to make its way toward him.

Devore stood up and leaned over the railing. "Your wand, Harry!" She shrieked, earning some shocked looks from the people around her, including the Gryffindors.

Hearing her, Harry took out his wand. "Accio Firebolt!"

His broom appeared in his hands. He flew on the Firebolt and the dragon chased after him. There was a large gulf of wind that casted over them from the force. "Well done dragon!" The twins cheered.

"This is so bloody intense." Olivia breathed out stressfully.

After a few moments, Harry still was nowhere to be found. "Where is he?" Devore asked no one in particular.

Suddenly, the noise of Harry's shouts caused everyone's heads to turn and they could see him riding his broomstick back to the arena. "YES!" She expressed and jumped up and down while clapping.

He was quick to grab the cup and Harry held it up proudly, causing more cheers to erupt from the crowd of students. With the biggest smile on her face, Devore clapped hysterically.

After the task was over, Devore and the girls followed everybody down the bleachers. She looked over and saw the Gryffindors surrounding Harry, congratulating him for his win. There was a part of her that wanted to go over there and tell him that she was proud of him, but she stopped herself.

Harry found her eyes. Devore remembered everything they did together, all of the obstacles they faced. And it didn't matter to them that she was a Slytherin, she was their best friend. But things were different now. She couldn't just go back to being friends with them all, not after everything that's happened.

Sending him the faintest of smiles, Devore continued to walk with Olivia and Morgan back to the castle, Harry watching her leave with a frown on his lips.
