"Doctor Collins, your next appointment will be with you in ten."

Doctor Collins let out a weary sigh as his receptionist, Nadia, informed him through the intercom that his next appointment was just ten minutes away. The never-ending stream of patients was starting to take its toll on him, and Mondays in the month of December were particularly dreaded. With the year-end approaching, everyone was rushing to make use of their insurance benefits. And it seemed like every single one of them had chosen today to grace his office.

Mondays like these brought in patients who didn't really have specific problems but insisted on listing unrelated symptoms, wanting a comprehensive check-up from head to toe. It was an annoyance that grated on the doctor's nerves, dealing with the overly cautious and hypochondriac individuals.

"Nadia, can you work some magic and push the appointment back by half an hour? I could really use a breather," he pleaded, loosening his tie in an attempt to alleviate the tension building in his neck.

Nadia's voice crackled with a hint of frustration, barely audible as she whispered, "I'll try my best, but this one seems stubborn."

Doctor Collins rolled his eyes, his annoyance growing with every passing moment. Impatient patients were his pet peeve, those who presented a laundry list of unrelated symptoms just to ensure they received a thorough examination. It was a waste of time and resources, and it irked him to no end.

"Who isn't?" he muttered under his breath. "When did she call to make this appointment?"

"She didn't," Nadia confessed, her voice tinged with a mix of embarrassment and trepidation.

Doctor Collins's irritation flared. "She didn't call? And you gave her a same-day appointment? I don't pay you to be this careless, Nadia," he reprimanded, his frustration seeping into his words.

"She claims it's urgent, Doctor. She's waiting right outside. Should I ask her to come back later?" Nadia's voice wavered, humiliated by the scolding. It had only been a month since she started the job, and she desperately wanted to make a good impression.

Doctor Collins let out a curt sigh. "Yes, if you want your monthly pay intact," he retorted, abruptly ending the call. The monotonous dial tone echoed in Nadia's ears, leaving her flustered and disheartened.

"Alright then," Nadia muttered to herself, steeling her nerves to face the patient and come up with a polite excuse for the doctor's absence.

Just as she was trying to compose herself, a voice crackled over the intercom, commanding the attention of everyone in the reception area.

"Appointment number A192, please report to the reception. I repeat, appointment number A192, please report to the reception."

Nadia reached for the files stacked neatly on her desk, containing preliminary papers for patients to fill out before their examination. However, she couldn't help but feel the futility of these forms. They were nothing more than a facade, allowing doctors to delay appointments and patients to believe they were actively participating in their healthcare.

As Nadia started flipping through the papers, a shadow fell across her desk. She glanced up to find a figure standing before her, the hood is drawn low, obscuring the face. The only discernible features were the flowing locks of blonde hair cascading from beneath the hood and an ample bosom that caught Nadia's attention.

"Ma'am, Doctor Collins is unable to see you at the moment as he had to rush for an emergency operation at Wavells," Nadia began, putting on her best smile. "But he wanted me to provide you with these forms to fill out. This way, he'll be prepared for your next visit, saving both your time and ensuring the best medical care."

The woman made no move to take the pen and files from Nadia's outstretched hand. Then, in an unexpected turn, she turned away as if leaving but abruptly changed her mind, reaching out to accept the pen and files.

"Doctor Collins doesn't work at Wavells, not even temporarily," the woman stated matter-of-factly, her voice smooth and authoritative as she began meticulously filling out the forms.

Nadia couldn't help but find the woman's behavior peculiar from the moment she stepped into the office. There was an air of unease surrounding her, an unsettling vibe that sent ripples of curiosity through Nadia's mind.

The woman had arrived with purpose, handing Nadia a slip of paper from a doctor recommending immediate attention. And yet, she had remained tight-lipped throughout the entire interaction.

Considering the urgency, Nadia had taken the liberty of granting an emergency appointment, a decision that now seemed questionable. The woman's impatience, persistence, and rudeness had made Nadia's job all the more challenging.

The hospital had placed a board beside Nadia's desk, displaying a message for such impatient patients. However, it was naive to expect these individuals to possess the patience to read a note right under their noses. The board's bold letters declared:

'Please be advised that your waiting time could be extensive. If you are unable to continue waiting, kindly inform the receptionist, and we will reschedule your appointment. Thank you for your understanding and patience as our doctors provide excellent medical care to all.'

The woman continued to fill out the forms with almost robotic precision, never once lifting her gaze to meet Nadia's curious eyes. Nadia resisted the urge to interrupt, waiting for the completion of the task.

Excusing herself, Nadia interjected, "Excuse me?"

The woman, still engrossed in filling out the forms, paid Nadia no attention.

"Are you a follow-up patient? You seem to know Mr. Collins," Nadia probed, hoping to glean some insight.

Without looking up, the woman simply replied, "No, I'm not," her pen never faltering in its motion across the paper.

With lightning speed, the woman finished the forms, handed them back to Nadia, and abruptly turned on her heel, walking out without a second glance.

The door closed silently behind her, leaving Nadia in a daze. There was something undeniably strange about the woman, something that lingered in the air long after she had vanished.

Nadia looked down at the file in her hands and opened it, her eyes scanning the name written on the first page.

"Plastic," she whispered to herself, intrigued by the peculiar name. It was not a name one encountered every day, and it only fueled her curiosity further.

"Plastic," she repeated, savoring the syllables as if they held some hidden meaning. Placing the file among the stack of follow-up appointments, she couldn't shake off the nagging feeling that there was more to this encounter than met the eye.

"Strange, very strange indeed," Nadia whispered, closing the file and placing it among the follow-up appointments. Lost in her thoughts, she repeated the name once more, unable to shake off the bewilderment caused by such an unusual moniker.

"Plastic," she uttered softly, her mind engulfed in the labyrinth of paperwork that demanded her attention.
