THE FORMAN'S BASEMENT | 1977
—HYDE'S HANDS felt right curled around Margot's waist again, his grip tighter than ever now that she was finally back in his arms.
They were currently curled up on the chair in the Forman's basement, Hyde playing with Margot's hair as she read a magazine and occasionally chatted to Donna who was sat beside Eric on the couch adjacent.
"You guys are cute," Eric mused, glancing up at the way the pair were entwined, "I can't believe you've finally got your shit together."
Margot rolled her eyes with a small grin, "I hate to say it, but thank you for being such a pain in the ass and basically forcing us to talk with your little comments, dumbass."
Eric beamed back at her, appearing smug and sitting up to puff out his chest a little.
"My pleasure, Mags," he leaned back, cuddling up to Donna a little, "Lord knows you're both too stubborn to have done anything without me."
Both Margot and Hyde knew that he was right, reluctantly shrugging in agreement as they laughed off Eric's self-satisfaction.
Though they had both missed each other immeasurably, there was no denying their mutual reluctance to make this clear without a push from their best friend. They would have otherwise remained obstinate in their desire to feign that they were perfectly fine without eachother.
"We should probably get going, Eric," Donna interjected, glancing up at the clock on the wall and biting her lip, "The movie starts in 45 minutes."
Eric nodded, standing up as he eyed the pair across from him, "Please don't bang on the couch while we're gone. I'm begging you."
"Pfft— you say that like you two haven't!" Margot scoffed, making brief eye contact with Donna who shook her head with a laugh.
Hyde only smirked, tightening his grip on the blonde on his lap and pushing her hair back from her face, gently pressing a kiss to the nape of her neck.
"Besides, dude, you're asking way too late."
Eric pretended to gag as though he was going to throw up, mumbling, "Gross," as he readied himself to leave the basement for his and Donna's date.
"I can't believe you've turned Hyde romantic."
"He literally just told you we screw around on the couch you're sat on, Donna."
"Point taken."
—
"It's so nice being able to kiss you with everyone around, man," Margot smiled over at Hyde, beside whom she was now laying, propped up on her elbows on his bed, "It feels weird though. I mean, we went from a secret thing, to hating each other, to saying I love you and being all coupley."
Hyde's face twisted a little, "I never hated you."
"I hope not, although you didn't make that very clear. I hated myself for leaving, though. And I only hated you for making it impossible to hate you enough to stop loving you."
Hyde shuffled ever so slightly closer, fingers toying with her hair as he brought their foreheads together, "I'm so glad you're back, Stevie."
"Me too. I just wanna focus on making up for lost time with you."
Hyde kissed her gently, intertwining their fingers as Margot leaned into him, their bodies now flush against each other.
Both teenagers were convinced that being in such close proximity would never get old. They could lay like this forever, even without any further physical intimacy they were content just to be close to one another.
"You're perfect, Margot. I know I'm shitty at being open about my feelings usually but... something about you being back around has made me realise I can't lose you again," Steven Hyde had never felt quite so vulnerable, and he didn't know where it had come from.
He was so used to casual sex and a flippant attitude. Used to barely remembering names, to getting high and remaining perpetually careless about everything and everyone. But something about Margot had always made him want to be more... to feel more.
"You really have gone soft, Hydey," the blonde winked, caressing his cheek with the pad of her thumb, "But in all seriousness, I'm so glad you're being honest about how you feel; that's all I've ever wanted. I love you."
"I'm like, way too nervous to do this, man," Hyde swallowed thickly, eyes closing for a moment longer than a blink as he gathered his thoughts, "But I'm ready to stop the whole hard-ass 'I don't date' act now, Stevie. Sneaking around was fun before — well y'know — but I want to take you on dates and stuff. Like proper couples do."
Margot feigned a gasp, "So you don't wanna spend all of our time making out in your room?"
"As much as I could do that all day, no," the curly haired brunette chuckled, a goofy grin adorning his face that made Margot's pulse skyrocket, "I want to show you off. I want you to be my girl, for real."
"Are you asking me to be your girlfriend, Steven Hyde?"
"I guess I am, Margot Byrne."
"Well it looks like it's your lucky day."
The pair embraced, eyes twinkling and hearts racing like this was the first time they'd ever been so close to each other.
Margot couldn't help the relief wash over her at the notion of Hyde finally tearing down his walls, bit by bit, to show her how he truly felt about her.
"I'm gonna have to head home soon, baby," she pouted, peppering a few light kisses along his jawline as she heard him groan both in pleasure and in disdain that she'd be leaving, "Sorry, but daddy's home today and me and Scotty are gonna try and cook something."
Hyde nodded, cupping her face with his palms and pulling her head back up to kiss him gently, "It's alright, as long as you let me take you out tomorrow night, huh?"
"Of course. I can't believe the Steven Hyde is taking me on a date. I'm gonna have to write to my mama about this... A date, with Mr. I Don't Date himself!" Margot teased as she prised herself away from her boyfriend.
"Don't push your luck princess," Hyde mocked, hand slipping to her waist and softly nudging her Beatles shirt up over her hipbone as he sat up too, "I can't believe you've got me being like this, but I kinda like it."
"I'm a powerful woman, Hyde. What can I say, men don't stand a chance."
"And don't I know it," Hyde rolled his eyes, one last seductive kiss on her neck as his lips neared her ear, "And please keep wearing band shirts again. You're too hot for all that frilly bullshit. Plus, bonus points if the shirts are mine."
"Any excuse to take them off me, huh?"
"You said it, not me."
