U: Sometimes I hate my family

At least he had family. Keith only had his dad who spent the majority of his time laying in bed. He could hardly call him family.

K: How come?

U: My little brother took my phone whilst I was getting a snack and dropped it

U: There's a massive crack on the screen now

K: Oh I'm sorry

U: It's okay, he's an idiot

K: I'm sure you love him really

It was hard to imagine not loving a big family. Keith would kill for a big brother to protect him or a mother to help pay the bills. He was too young to take responsibility for his dad but he had to. Someone had to drag him to therapy appointments and make sure he was taking whatever drug he was on that month. As much as he loved his dad, it was hard work. Alongside school, it just tired him out all of the time.

U: I'll love him when he gives me a hundred quid to fix my phone.

K: How old is he?

U: 5

K: Then he didn't do it on purpose

U: This phone isn't even 6 months old

U: Ugh I hate him

K: Don't say that

U: I'm sorry

U: I'm just upset

K: I know but it'll be okay. You can live with a cracked phone

U: I guess

K: Do you have any other siblings?

For some reason, Keith felt obliged to distract the unknown number. Not because they were friends but because Keith was a good, empathetic person.

U: Too many. I have two older brothers and a sister, as well as my younger brother

K: I'm an only child

U: That sounds wonderful

K: It's not really. It gets really lonely

And, you know, it made him grow up much quicker than he should have.

U: But it must be so quiet and your parents must get you whatever you want. I have to share everything and I swear 90% of my clothes are hand me downs

K: We don't have much money so my dad doesn't buy me anything

U: Your mum?

Keith couldn't remember his mum very well. He could remember his dad saying they had the same deep, beautiful eyes but that was about it. She walked out around the same time that his dad had started becoming depressed. She didn't even bother helping find a diagnosis for the man she once loved. Keith had to do that. For the rest of his life, Keith was going to despise the woman that birthed him. 

K: She walked out when I was a kid

U: Oh I'm so sorry

K: It's okay. It's not like I knew her

U: Yeah… still sad. You deserve the world

He didn't deserve anything. He was a horrible person for hating his dad so much. For not wanting to be responsible anymore. For wanting a different family. He should appreciate what he had: at least his dad was still there. He had made it through multiple suicide attempts but Keith still struggled to look after him.

K: Thanks I guess

U: I'm about to go out with my friend so ttyl
