Where...am...I?

Is this a dream?

Was I dreaming? Or have I just started dreaming?! Where is everyone?

These thoughts get washed away by a flood of pain that fills my head. I didn't even notice when my eyes rolled backwards.

I slowly open my eyes and use my arms to feel the ground a round me. The speed in which I'm waving my hand increases. Just then my eyes shoot open.

I'm floating!? How can I be floating? And where exactly.

I try to sit up but nothing is supporting me, so I'm pretty much lost in space. I just annoyingly start rolling around in the air. I am almost about to start praying when a big bright light appears out of nowhere. Its light is blue in colour and sure is pretty. I should get closer to the light. Maybe it's a way out of this trance!

Gradually I start swimming in the air towards the light. I finally reach it and I stretch out my hand to grab it , but once I touch it the big blue light, it bursts into a million tiny pieces! What?
All of a sudden, I start falling a thousand meters to the ground and I drop on the ground with a loud THUD!

Waking up from my coma, I realize that I'm in, Shallow Avenue. And everywhere seems normal? But how did I... How did this place just...

Let me try pinching myself to know if I'm dreaming. At least that's what do in movies right?

I lift up my hand that looks as if it's been deep fried, I feel more pain in my hand than my leg that I'm trying to pinch!

Okay, now I know for sure I was that I was dreaming! How the heck did I manage to have such a crazy dream! I mean from the fights to my parents having powers! At least it ended with me helping out that girl Rhea. I doubt that she and those other people I met in my dream exist. This has got to be my worst nightmare EVER. Ha, to think I thought I had powers! What a joke! Powers don't really exist!

As I stand up from the ground I can see Shallow Avenue around me. No wrecked cars or earthquaked streets. Just the plain old place where I grew up in. In fact it looks even better than before. Did the government finally remember this neighborhood and renovate it?

Down the street I think I can see Andre! Boy am I gonna tell him the dream I had!

"Andre! Hey wait up..." I immediately stop runnihen I figure out that the person I'm chasing is way to small to be Andre.
It must be his little brother Maiko, when did they start looking so alike?

That Andre must be hiding from me because I've looked everywhere for him. I mean, who else would have knocked me out in the middle of the street and run away. I might as well continue... Wait a minute. My dad! I should go tell everything that happened in my dream as well! Obviously! I'm going to find my dad to tell him about the dream I had. Maybe I just wanna find out if he's okay, or maybe I just need his warm embrace that I have been lacking for a while now. That dream felt like an eternity.

Walking towards my house I feel a tingling sensation in my hand. It's... healing?! That means I'm close to my dad! My slow gradual steps now turn into long sprints heading towards nothing but happiness! And my house of course!

I reach the front of my house and I'm so excited that I can't even stay still enough to open the little gate that leads to the path to the door. Finally I've managed to open it and walk in. I quickly turn back to lock it when I hear a strangely familiar voice talking.

"Daddy?"

"Yes Kayla?"

"Do you love me?"

"And what if I said I don't?"

"Then I won't let you kiss my boo boos no more!" I turn around to see me, in front me talking to my dad!

What the HECK is going on?! If I'm here, and I'm me, then who she!?
I turn around and close my eyes.

I'm dreaming. Yes, I'm in a dream. This cannot be real. Things like this cannot just happen. So I'm dreaming.

"Ha, I love you Kayla from the bottom of my heart." I open my eyes and slightly turn and I find my dad, on one knee, still talking to me. Well little me.

"No, you're lying to me." The tiny Makayla still has her arms crossed and is standing in a way a mother would scold her child, while her father kneels before her.

"You keep saying that you love me but you always leave me in this house alone with mommy! And you know I dont like her, she doesn't even like me."

"I don't leave you, I just go work sweetheart."

"You go to work for months daddy! That's not work, that's you leaving me."

"Look Makayla, you're just 10 years old, I couldn't possibly take you to work with me. You know I work with dangerous things that aren't meant for beautiful princesses like you." He gave her a soft tap on her...my...OUR nose. Hold on, did he just say ten years old! How can she be ten years old!
Unless I went back in time to six years ago! What is going on!

"I promise I'll be back..." He's stopped by a wierd sound coming from his bag.
That was what he said. The day he left and never came back. It wasn't until five years later that he showed up again. I can't let it happen a second time.

"Daddy please no! Don't go. Don't leave me!" Little Makayla's shouts made me rage within. I can't let this happen a second time.
With all the strength I have in my body I start running towards them. Towards him. I couldn't stop it before, but I can now.

"I'm sorry." He turns to start leaving. He's leaving me again. Suddenly small sobs begin to escape my mouth. And a headache follows.

"Daddy no." Little me just bursts into tears, crying with one hand holding the bottom of her dress and the other wiping her eyes. Ah! I grab my chest and squeeze it. The former pain that left my body has finally come back. Ahh! What is this pain!

Running with every limb in my body I began to see the earth shifting. I'm running forward but moving backwards. The house was in my reach before but now we're miles apart.

"No dad! Wait! Come back. Do not leave me again!" Shouting at the top of my lungs I grow weak and fall down to my feet. The stone pavement under me stops moving.

Soon I hear the door of my house open and bang shut along with a crying me being dragged inside, I shatter into pieces.

Dad? Please.

I can't help crying. Loud sobs are leaving my tightly pursed lips. Gushing rivers of sadness, hopelessness and anger leave my tired, red eyes.

GAH! My hands are even worst than before. The dark marks on the centre of my hands are spreading, slowly lurking up my arms.

As I drop them I notice the stone tiles i'm sitting on are now breaking apart?! Immediately everywhere turns to hell. The sky turns red and monsters are just creeping out of sewers and cars and are coming close to me. I shout my dad involuntarily and to my luck and surprise he rushes out of nowhere to come and save me but he is stopped by a purple cloud that is dragging him inside the house. Valerie! Valerie appears out of nowhere and pulls me into the ground. And lastly I'm totally covered in the darkness of the underworld only to behold fire and other dreadful people that look just like Valerie!!!

"Stop!"

"Get away from me!"

AH! This is not the time for this AH!... PAIN!

"No!"

"No!!!....."

"Makayla!" I can hear a voice calling me.

"Wake Up!!" Its starting to get clearer.

I immediately gain consciousness. I'm awake. Was it a dream or a nightmare? Did I wake up from a dream in that dream?

"Earth to Makayla!!! Earth to Makayla!!" Andre shakes me and I quickly open my eyes. I'm lying on the ground because I fell down from the log I was sitting on.

What was that?! I say to myself looking at my hands.

"It was a dream state." Andre tells me helping me up.

"But I woke up in it?!"

"Yeah Rhea has kind of a, let's call it a super power. She can make you go into a place that you would refer to as a nightmare. You understand right?"

I'm just staring at him right now. He thinks this kinda thing happens to me all the time.

"This is what I told you before!" Devon exclaims putting his hand on my shoulder.

"You can be nice to the rest of us but when it comes to Rhea just find your inner meanness because that's all your gonna need when talking to her."

"O-ok I can do that!" I say dusting and arranging my clothes.

"Hey Rhea!! Remember when I said I cared about you? You better get some food because its gonna take a long time! In fact, thanks for helping me realize that there are still some stupid people in the world other than Andre! And I'm not being rude, your just insignificant." I say following their advice.

"Oh come on!" Oops I forgot Andre was standing next to me.

"Hey! Hey, I didn't mean insult her! I meant dont get all cheesy with her! Hopefully she doesn't retaliate, Liam is over there trying to cool her off!"

Ah no fair I was actually getting the hang of it! Roasting people is so fun!!!

"Alright I'll go make it better with her. Rhea!" She turns to look at me.

"I'm sorry I called you stupid earlier, I thought you knew that already!!"

"Okay it seems like you need a time out." Andre says leading me away from where Rhea and Liam are.

"Yeah maybe I do!" I cover my mouth.

"Nah just leave her I think being a jerk is in her DNA." Alix says uninvited. Look who talking about being a jerk!

"Hold on a second! I'm trying to imagine you with a personality." I reply. What's her problem anyway!
"And you can keep rolling your eyes! Eventually you might find a brain!"

"You say that again and imma bite your face off! And I mean it!"

"Well I'd like to see you try!" We speedily pounce at each other, with the objective to tear each others eyes out.

Liam comes over and separate us, but were fighting each other with our eyes.

"I think we should all hit the hay. I'm getting really tired and I really need my beauty sleep!" Liam says walking away.

"I think that's a good idea. We should just sleep all this off and figure everything out tomorrow." Andre says finding a good spot around the camp fire to sleep.

"Sounds good to me!" Devon says bouncing past us.

I just go with the flow and try to avoid Alix and Rhea but mostly Alix!

Walking around everyone lying on the floor I find the place where I fell down and I just lie down there because its a great spot next to the warm fire.

My life has really taken a huge turn but has actually become interesting for once. I'm all about the nice regular teenage life but now I'm living an adventurous mystery, and its not something you'll see every day! Taking a look at everyone around me I feel that Ill soon find my place in this group and hopefully I wont tear anyone's hair out but I make no promises!

Eventually I fall asleep gazing upon the stars.

"Risenshine everybody!" I feel ice cold water being flushed down my body. Liam seriously?!

"Hey ever heard of gently tapping someone awake?!" Devon shouts getting up from the dusty earth.

"Never mind us, I think Alix wants to kill you!" Andre says scooting on the ground away from Alix.

"DANG WO YU NI TONG ZAI SHI, NI HUI SI!!!!" Alix says creeping towards Liam. Thank goodness I joined my schools Chinese class! I think what she said was 'When I'm through with you, you'll be dead!'. Jeez she's cranky.

"I'm sorry you guys I just thought this would be more efficient. Besides Rheas not angry!? That's what I love about her!"

"I will invert your ribcage." Rhea says unexpectedly. Damn.

"Well that was deep." Andre says to break the silence.

"Any way Makayla how was your night?" Liam asks me. I'm still trying not to get crept out with what Rhea said.

"I'm fine actually! Sleeping on the ground is really not that bad." I hope he can hear my sarcasm.

"Lucky you, I think i slept a little too close to the fire! It felt like someone was throwing fire at me all through the night!" Liam says.

"Huh I experienced the same thing!" Andre says.

"Me too! I had to wake up Alix if she was the one doing it but she said she was going through the same thing, well after she assaulted me for waking her up!" Devon says.

"Why would Alix be behind it?" I asked knowing what she was capable of.

I dont know, maybe she could have lit up a stick and waved the hot wood around us.

"That's just stupid." Andre states.

"I know, it is kinda silly." Devon says scratching the back of his head.

"Well I for one had a good night. Any way I better get ready I've got something I need to take care of." I say going to get my things.

"Like what?" Liam asks.

"Look, its something really important so... if you'll excuse me."

"Look we all know you're looking for your family. Why else would you have been out here. We are all in this position right now!"

"But I have to do this on my own..."

"No you don't! Just...we all have people we are looking for, but for now WE'RE your best chance of finding your family. And until we find them WE'RE your family now. I know we just met yesterday but I already feel like I know you so please lets just do this together!"

"Well okay." He's a really compassionate fella ain't he? I cant say no to that kind of speech! Some seconds later I catch Andre glaring at Liam.

"Hey, are you jealous that he knows how to talk me into stuff more than you do?!" I cant help but laugh out loud.

"Whatever he's just too free with you that's all. Anyway I cant be replaced by anyone can I?!"

"Keep dreaming honeybun!"

"Ouch." He replies. Suddenly he looks down at my hands and notices my injuries.

"What happened?"

"Nothing! I fell down a few timesen those goons were chasing me." I say squinting at the early morning sun over his shoulders.

"You sure?"

"Yeah dont worry about it."

"Uhm I think were set to go. Ya ready guys?" Liam picks up his backpack.

"Mhm." I reply. Well there's nothing for me to carry but my phone anyway. Everyone else is ready as well so we all hit the road.

As we all start walking on the road I begin to remember everything that went down last night. I cant help to think that that guy made that excuse not because he was shy, but because he wanted to save me? Anyway I have to get it out of my head now. I'm on a serious mission to find my dad and nothing will get in my way to stop it!

Thud!!!

"What the heck?!" I fall flat on my face over what I think was is a chair?!

"How'd that even get there?!"

"Probably the wind!" I turn to my so-called-nemesis Alix.

"Couldn't you just try to be nice, just a little bit?"

"No I'd spoil all the fun!" She smiles and just walks away, her hair flipping as she turns. I cant even be bothered anymore.

We finally reach the border of Shallow Avenue after walking a long distance of sweat, tiredness and bad roads. We continue walking but stop at a point and look back.

"See ya soon Shallow Avenue!" Liam says waving at the place.

"Stay safe my ol'home!"

I just look at everywhere and picture my life there. I've lived my whole life in the place and I'm not ready to say bye to it just like that so therefore I say:

"I'll be back Shallow Avenue." Those were my last words as we left the area.

Wow I never thought I would have had to leave Shallow Avenue if not for a holiday but look where we are now! Now its nothing but sunshine ahead!

"Ow stop pushing me!"

"I'm not, cant you see the pavement's small?!"

"Well stop walking on the pavement and walk somewhere else in the environment!"

"What are you five?!"

"Can everyone just calm down!?....."

"SHUT UP!"

This is gonna be a long walk!!!
