Elian Deogenes' POV.

"I will piss all over your feet if you ever try anything like that again" I tell my girlfriend.

She and her dad laugh at me.

We're playing 'Bullshit' and I've just had to pick up a good 16 cards cause both of them teamed up on my ass.

Aaliyah and Orion spud each other and she passes me the bottle of whiskey so I can pour myself a glass.

Her mother would kick all of our asses if she saw us, so we're all at the Coleman's house, playing outside.

Douglas and Temah Coleman are both good friends of Violet and Orion.

Temah sits on Douglas' lap watching us play, while mediating.

Douglas has decided to stay completely sober of any alcohol or weed while Temah is pregnant, so that leaves me, Aaliyah and Orion.

We're staying over, as we have a meeting with the Coleman and their board of directors in the morning, as their lawyers.

It's a big deal for us, since they asked for Aaliyah and I specifically.

They used to be under Aaliyah's mother, Trinity.

But she started taking less cases while she was pregnant with the twins.

"Bullshit!" Douglas announces.

He flips over the card on the top and laughs aloud, scooping the pile of cards and handing them to Orion, who was lying.

Orion swears and puts his hand on the table.

Aaliyah holds in her laughter, but I don't, karma kicking my father in law's ass and rightfully so.

Just as we do, a woman walks in, looking for Douglas.

She tells him that the police are at his front door.

We all look up.

Douglas, completely unfazed, stands up.

Orion stays with Temah, while me and Aaliyah follow him.

We go to the front door, lurking behind him as he opens it.

"Douglas Coleman?" The officer asks.

"Officer?" Douglas responds coldly.

Does this happen often?

"We heard about a breaking and entering crime in this neighbourhood and we have reason to believe that you might be able to give us some information about it" the officer says.

The officer is a tall and well built man.

Douglas is taller.

And his build is far more impressive.

There is also a female officer with him, who has her hand trained on her belt at all times.

Douglas sighs.

"Look at my yard, officer. What makes you thing that I would steal from anyone in the same neighbourhood than me when their houses are smaller and of less domestic and commercial worth than mine?" He asks, matching the officer's gaze.

"We don't care about your house, Mr Coleman. You match the description of our suspect so we've been asked to talk to you" the officer says indignantly.

The officer is a young man.

The woman with him is young also.

"I see" Douglas says.

He sounds irritated and rightly so.

They're profiling him.

That's when Aaliyah steps in.

"Good evening Officers" she says.

The female officer's eyes widen.

"Councillor Otiento-Miller!" She exclaims, saluting her.

She nudges her partner to do the same and he does.

"At ease" she tells them and they relax.

She steps in front of Douglas, who lets her handle it.

"What are you doing here?" The female officer asks.

"I'm visiting my friend and his wife. But it was cut short, because you decided to come here and profile him" Aaliyah says without missing a beat.

"Councillor, we had no idea that-"

"I don't care. Give me your badge numbers. The pair of you. I already know your precinct numbers, so you have no need to worry about that. My assistant, councillor Deogenes will write them down for me." She says, turning them to me.

"Councillor, add their names also. We will let Captain Terrance be aware of all of the events in a brief conclusion later" she tells me.

"Yes Judge" I say proudly, taking out my phone.

"Apologise to Mr Coleman, then get out" she says.

"Yes Councillor" they both say.

She walks away, back towards the  pool house and I follow.

"Well done judge. You kicked ass" I say.

"I nearly shit myself!" She gasps and I laugh with her.

"You handled it so well sweetheart" I tell her.

"You reckon?" She asks, walking into the kitchen and filling a glass with water.

I nod.

She leans on the counter and I stand in front of her, looking down at her.

"I'm glad you're proud of me" she says genuinely.

"I'll always be proud of you judge" I say, giving her a kiss.

She kisses me back, when someone clears their throat in the back.

We look.

Douglas.

"I wanted to say thank you for sticking up for me, kid" he says.

Aaliyah nods.

"You're friends with my step mom and I'd do anything for her. Don't mention it" she says.

He smiles charmingly and excuses himself.

Aaliyah and I talk to each other some more and then we go back to join everyone before retreating to bed.

I think about the situation with the cops and what would have happened if we weren't there.

I look over to Aaliyah, who sleeps like a baby.

I want to be brave like her.

I can see why people adore her.

Why Miss Nyguen suddenly seems so obsessed with her.

Aaliyah has already told me about the 'date' and what happened.

She asked me if my opinion and I told her that she should do what makes her happy.

In response, she told me that I made her happy and then the conversation ended.

Just like that.

We haven't spoken about it since.

She's so blunt about it too!

I look at the ceiling, thinking.

And thinking.

Until I get up.

It's late but I have a call to make.

An important one.
