13. Defeat of Drupad
After the education of training of the Kauravas and the Pandavas is done, they return back to Hastinapur with guru Dronacharya and Ashwatthama. Bhishma feels happy after seeing his grandsons and hugs all them one by one, crying in joy. Vidur, Kunti, Gandhari and Dhirtarashtra too feel happy about their return and declare a feast to the subjects.
Then, Bhishma turns to Guru Dronacharya and asks him, "What dakshina do you need?"
Dronacharya, almost like expecting the question answers, "I want your grandsons to fight Drupad and defeat him."
"That's not possible. I will try and defeat him but not my grandsons," Bhishma says, feeling frightened for his grandsons but Vidur comes forward and says, "You can't do that. By doing that, you're denying dakshina to a Brahmin who taught your grandsons."
Bhishma sighed in sadness and agrees, "Okay."
Duryodhan comes forward and says boastingly, "We hundred and one Kauravas will go first."
Yuyutsu looked sadly at the Pandavas and Yudhisthir nods at him, signalling that it's okay. Vidur and Bhishma sighed, thinking of the way how Duryodhan doesn't include the pandavas into the Kaurav family but they don't say anything.
The Kauravas fight but when the news of their defeat and getting captured reach the Pandavas, the pandavas go to fight too. With Yudhisthir's fighting organisation Bheem's strength, Arjun's archery, Nakul's agility and Sahdev's knowledge, they manage to defeat Drupad. Yes, Drupad's son Shikhandi make this war difficult for them with his anger but they still win. Then, the pandavas bring a captive Drupad to Dronacharya and Dronacharya orders, "I want my son Ashwatthama to be the king of half of Panchal."
Drupad becomes angry but since he has no choice, he accepts. So, Ashwatthama, who once didn't have milk to drink has half of Panchal in the palm of his hand because of the Pandavas.
