The Ball

My heart was pounding in my chest. I couldn't do this. I stared at myself in the bathroom mirror. I had put my dress on and I had curled my hair. My black hair now fell down my back in waves and the front part was all curly.

I also had put a blue flower in my hair. I couldn't do this. I had even put on some make up. Still can't do this. I had put on some mascara, eyeliner, eye shadow, and bright red lipstick. I sucked in a breath.

I could do this. Natsu had already left for the Ball. I hadn't seen what he had looked like yet in his suit. He hadn't seen me either. My heart thumped again. It's just one night. One dance. Two at the most. Catch the bad guy. Leave. That's it.

That's...it... I touched my ever-present dagger necklace. It fit perfectly with my dress. I clutched it for support. My eyes landed on my black Guild Mark. My fingers brushed against it.

Fairy Tail.

I smiled and then exited the bathroom. Time to head for the ball...and the Dragon Slayer that awaited for me there.

I stood in front of the Ball's big double doors. This was it. The guard waved me through when I pointed to my Guild Mark. "Your partner is already in there, he informed us that you were coming." The guard told me.

I nodded and walked through the doors. I found myself at the top of a staircase staring down at all the dancing people. Some boys and some girls stopped dancing to gawk at me. I looked away, feeling strange, and self-conscious. Did I look bad?

I looked back and began to walk down the long staircase. My eyes scanned the room until they found what I was looking for. A certain pink haired boy was watching me descend the stairs with gleaming green eyes.

Our eyes locked and we didn't look away from each other. He started to walk forward and I kept walking down the stairs. I was on the second to last step when he made it to the bottom of the stairs. He extended his hand to me and I took it.

He smiled and muttered softly, "You look like your glowing."

I could feel my cheeks heat up as he smiled at me. I smiled softly at him, "You don't look so bad yourself." He looked fantastic in his black suit. The light shade of his pink dress shirt went perfectly with his hair and it brought out his eyes.

His ever-present scarf was wrapped around his waist, acting like some sort of belt, and it was strange to see his neck bare. I liked it though. But one thing that I didn't like was his hair. He had flattened it so it was now slicked back. It wasn't spiky.

With a small frown I reached up and ran my fingers through his hair, making it spiky again. I dropped my hands onto his shoulders and smiled. "There, that's the Natsu I know." Before I could say anything else the song, Heart Realise, began to play softly.

Before I could protest or make a sound Natsu linked his fingers through mine walked/dragged me over to the dance floor. The soft melody of the beginning began to play. Natsu leaned in close to my ear and whispered, "Keep an eye out for anything, okay?"

Ha, like I could focus on anything else when he was this close to me. I put my hand on his shoulder and he put his arm around my waist. We linked hands just as the lyrics started.

Because no matter what happens, I'll call your name without fail

Ah...

Natsu began leading me slowly back and forth, just like I had taught him too.

You're the owner of a jagged heart

We looked into each other's eyes and we didn't look away.

Anything you touch gets hurt

He started to lead me in a small circle.

You scowl at everything in the world

I moved my hand to his neck and his arm tightened around my waist.

You're eyes say it, but I'm here

He started to move us faster in the circle.

Someone was laughing

All the people around us blurred together

So the boundary line was pulled in

I only saw him

If thats so let me take your hand

He only saw me

I smiled at him as we continued to dance in our small circle.

If you can't say it, hold my hand tight

His green eyes sparkled and danced...like a small flame.

And don't let go

I closed my eyes.

I put my head on his chest.

He moved his hand from my waist to my back.

It was so hard to concentrate...
