Chapter 18: For Being My Friend

For Being My Friend

He looked at me with one eye open, "I found something that I thought that you might want." With that he got up and left the kitchen. I tilted my head and shrugged. After a moment he came back into the kitchen fully dressed. A pang of disappointment shot through me, which confused me and made me blush.

Great.

Natsu walked toward me and extended his hand to me, palm up. In the palm of his hand lay my necklace.

My eyes widened and a wide smile broke across my face. "Where did you find it?" I asked as I took my necklace from his hand. Our fingers brushed and it sent shivers through me. I needed help.

"The bed." He answered.

I swallowed thickly at how causally he had answered and I quickly put my necklace on. Once it was safely on I sighed in relief. I looked up at Natsu and before I could think better of it, stood up from my seat, and wrapped my arms around his neck.

I laid my chin on his shoulder, "Thank you." I whispered in his ear. I let go of him before I did something really stupid. Like keep my arms wrapped around his neck and bury my fingers in his soft hair.

I took a step back and my eyes fell onto his bandaged arm. "How is you're arm, Natsu?" I asked him with my eyes still on the white bandaged. He made a sound of question than looked down at his arm. He brought it closer to his face and then he shrugged his shoulders.

"Let's find out." He said as he placed two fingers onto the white bandaged. Then he lit his two fingers on fire and swiped them across his arm. "Natsu-" I started but the bandages already caught fire and after a moment, turned to ash. My eyes followed the little black ash as it floated down and onto my floor.

I let out a breath, "Okay." I breathed out as I turned my attention back to the boy. Natsu was flexing his arm with a look of confusion on his face. "It's all better...didn't even leave a scar." He said almost to himself. I swallowed thickly and rolled my eyes upward.

"That's a good thing. I'm glad you're better." I told him with a smile. Natsu blinked and then he locked those green eyes on me. He dropped his hand and tilted his head at me. "You did this?" It was more like a statement then a actually question.

My jaw locked up and I forced out a small laugh. "No! Of course not, I don't have Healing Magic." Somehow, I found myself disappointed in myself, I didn't like lying to him. Which was strange. I had no problem lying to others.

I looked at Natsu, what made him so different than the others?

The Fire Dragon Slayer studied me for a moment and then he smiled. "I know that you don't like talking about you're Magic, Fey." He crossed his arms over his chest, "So, I won't ask."

I stared at him. I was right, he was different from the others. He was better than them. Natsu then gave me a closed eyed smile, "Thanks for helping me, Fey!"

Then I said words that I never would have thought I would ever say to another person. "Your welcome." And the words just kept getting wilder and more shocking. "I-I use Dagger Magic or Lost Magic." Natsu paused and opened up his striking eyes. "I call it, 'The Twin Dagger's Magic'. There isn't an officially name for the type of Magic that I use...I kinda just made up the name." I said as I looked away from him.

I couldn't believe I was saying all of this to him. What was wrong with me?

"My Magic...it's deadly and it's ugly...It only ever brings pain." A shudder went through me and I wrapped my arms around myself. "I-" I closed my eyes tight as I whispered out, "I hate my Magic." I had never said truer words. I had never said it out loud.

"I think you're Magic's beautiful."

My eyes shot open and I looked at Natsu. He had quietly walked toward me and now he was standing at arms length away from me. "W-what?" I whispered out. He smiled softly down at me as he said, "I don't think you're Magic is ugly, Fey." Natsu's eyes glittered as he brought up his arm.

"I mean, how can something so ugly and deadly," He turned his arm around and flexed it, "Help and heal others?"

Once again I found myself staring at the boy in front of me. What did I do? What did I do...to deserve a friend like him? I was unable to form any words as I stared up at him. I had only known Natsu Dragneel for a short while. Hell, we had just gone on our first mission together. But, already, I could tell that he would be good for me.

He would be the only thing good in my life.

Natsu grinned down at me and I sucked in a sharp breath when he wrapped both of his arms around my shoulders, and tugged me close to him. I hesitated for a moment, then I wrapped my arms around him. I closed my eyes and buried my face into his scarf. "Thank you, Natsu..."

"For what?" I heard him mutter.

"For being my friend." I whispered out as I hugged him tighter.
