Chapter 5 - The Mirror
I think people are getting HP Vibes from the title
But anyway....
The next day, when Henry was doing morning things, he noticed how the mirror was... slightly odd. He couldn't place why though... It wasn't easily fogged, and even though Henry had (tried) to splash water on it, and then used his limited amount of skill and magic to make the mirror fog, it stayed resolutely clear.
I guess it's a good thing, but Henry couldn't help trying to find out what was different.
Maybe it's the magic in the place, Henry thought. Maybe I'm just wasting my time.
A couple days later, Henry decided to examine the mirror thoroughly.
So like the reasonable person he is, he's going to try to pry off the mirror.
How did he know it would work?
How did he know he wouldn't get in trouble?
Well you see, he had a dream.
When Henry sat down in bed at night, he stared outside at the bright, full moon. I hope my family is fine... He thought, and went to sleep.
In his dream, he was sitting on the bed, just like he had at night. He went to the bathroom and turned on the light. The shiny appliances glimmered in the yellowish light. Henry felt the edge of the mirror, which was lined with a floral design painted a dark bronze. He touched a sort of nail, and tugged on it. Not hard, just enough. The mirror shifted a bit.
He tried again, and the mirror swung off the hinges, and revealed a dark tunnel.
Henry stepped on the sink, ew, and climbed into the tunnel. The mirror swung almost-shut.
Then, Henry woke up.
Henry wanted to see what it was all about, so he decided, like a logical person, to try it.
Feeling the edge of the mirror, his hand finally jerked away from the mirror's edge. The tiny "door knob" was really sharp!
The mirror swung away from the wall. Just like in his dream, the tunnel was dark but clean. The ground was dirt, and water dripped from the tunnel roof.
The end of the tunnel wasn't in sight.
Hopefully it wouldn't lead to, you know, Henry's bloody death to a monster.
He stepped onto the sink and climbed in, and the mirror swung almost-shut, just like in the dream.
Henry started to walk, telling himself that the tunnel would lead to outside, where he could find his family, tell them what happened, and hope they wouldn't get mad at him.
Some tiny part of his brain told him it wouldn't happen, or something would go wrong, or he would get lost, or he would get killed. He was almost running now, as though he was running from the truth, and reality, and fate.
Maybe he should turn back? That part of his brain said.
He didn't, instead treading on.
Sorry for the short chapter, I got it out in like 3 days though :')
