I say Sadam but it's set in the future where Adam is still feeling betrayed by Sarah after he's found out about her crimes and she's in prison

This might be a little mature??? Nothing directly mentioned, but it's sort of hinted at???? Idk take it however you want to I try to keep it as innocent as possible but I've also toned the situation down from my original idea soooooo

Why would someone in their right mind be calling me at three AM?

Adam groaned and rolled over in bed to pick up his cell phone that was buzzing beside him.

"Hello...? This is Adam speaking..." he mumbled rather lethargically, having been woken from a deep slumber only a few hours since he had gone to bed from grading papers until 1 AM.

"Mister Foley, this is the prison nurse speaking. I have the warden and Miss Sarah Canaday on speaker."

Now Adam was awake and quietly bitter.

"What can I do for you?"

"An incident involving unrestrained and overflowing magic occurred several months back, and Miss Canaday was caught in the crossfire. She requested that you might be the one to take care of the... results...?" The nurse seemed hesitant to finish his statement.

"Why should I do anything for Sarah?" Adam growled.

Then there was a cry through the audio. Not a cry of pain, but an infant's cry. Weak but instinctive- a newborn. Adam's blood turned ice cold as he quickly leaves together what might've happened.

"Is that... the results..?" He asked slowly.

"Yes, sir. Canaday was a victim in this particular case, so we gave her the benefit of allowing her daughter to go to someone she requested instead of into the adoption system. You do not have to agree by any means, Mister Foley."

Despite that Adam's mind said no, he knew his heart had already won as soon as the infant cried.

"If you're listening Sarah, I'll take the baby. But not for you. For her, so we don't have another Harmony incident and she won't have to grow up in the foster system, because I know how that works sometimes. This will be the last thing I do for you, understand?" Adam couldn't keep the harsh tone out of his voice. He knew it wasn't the time to let his betrayed feelings for Sarah show through, but it hurt that she chose him to come to to raise her child. She had known how he felt for her, and then she had used those feelings to twist his loyalties and use his support to commit crimes against the school, government, and the people.

And yet she dared to utilize their poisoned bond one last time, even for a decent cause?

There was a small sigh on the other side of the receiver.

"I know, Adam."

Just to hear her exhausted, slightly distorted voice sent both Adam's heart a flutter and made him internally curl away from the woman that had broken his trust and his heart.

"If you could meet us at Starlight Orphanage at 10 AM in two days we can start on the paperwork. Is that alright, Mister Foley?"

Adam grunted. "Understood. Good night? Morning? To you all." And then he ended the call.

He gave a great heave of air and fell back onto his pillow.

He was now the caretaker of his past-lover-now-most-despised-enemy's newborn daughter. 

Rather poetically ironic. The last thing I do for her is something that would bring two people together forever. But now it is only going to split us apart.
