| Trick Zero |
Izuku Midoriya was nine years old when he discovered he had a rare affinity for magic.
He was playing in the abandoned part of the city with his best friend at the time: Katsuki Bakugou. The asphalt was split indefinitely and vegetation sprouted from the cracks. Bricks that made up old, vacant apartment complexes were faded to oblivion and covered in the vibrant colors of graffiti. The entire area was a hot spot for delinquent children.
Izuku himself wasn't a delinquent, but those were the types of kids he usually hung out with. Katsuki within himself was a destructive, loudmouthed, Hellion.
Katsuki took a seat on the stoop of a building and scuffed his mangled black converse in the dirt, kicking up dust.
"Hey, Deku, I bet you can't break that wall over there." Katsuki challenged, nodding to the concrete wall opposite them.
Izuku looked away from the illustration he was drawing in the dirt with a stick to the solid wall. Now he didn't want to look like a wuss in front of his only friend so he dropped the stick and cautiously walked over to the wall as he twiddled with his fingers.
"Are you sure about this Kacchan?" Izuku mumbled. "I could break my hand."
"I knew you were too much of a pussy, Deku," Katsuki spat, venom dripping from each word.
Izuku felt an overwhelming wave of shame wash over him followed by anger that his best friend didn't believe in him. He turned to the wall and aimed his fist.
"Smash!"
Izuku thrust his fist forward but before he made contact massive spider cracks crawled throughout the wall and it began to crumble. Izuku fell backward on his ass as he watched the destruction he accidentally caused. But before he was crushed by falling rubble he pushed himself up and ran over to Katsuki who'd stood up in shock.
"What the fuck, Deku? How'd you do that? You're supposed to be a worthless ass fucking muggle." Katsuki yelled at the younger boy.
Izuku gaped at the sight of dust settling over the pieces of the fallen building sitting in a heap in the middle of the street. "I-I don't know."
"Bullshit!" Katsuki pushed Izuku against the wall, growling low in his throat.
Izuku's head smacked against the bricks, and he sucked in a breath through his teeth. He cracked open an eye to see a fuming blonde with bared teeth and flared nostrils. Izuku's feet struggled to gain purchase on the pavement as he slid down the wall, Katsuki's fist flying at his face.
"Kacchan, stop!" Izuku shakily held his hands up in defense.
As Izuku finished speaking Katsuki was forced back by an unseen force, falling to the ground. Upon contact, Katsuki's vision darkened and he fell unconscious.
Izuku peeked from behind his hands to see Katsuki laying motionlessly on the ground. He immediately ran to his friend's aid.
"Kacchan? Kacchan?" Izuku yells, shaking Katsuki's body.
To Izuku his own voice becomes modulated and he hears a sharp ringing in his ears. His vision turns blurry and unfocused as a new scene comes into view.
"Izuku, baby, are you okay?" Izuku turns to face his mother Inko who sports widened eyes and raised eyebrows.
"Yeah, mom, I'm fine." Izuku smiles brightly at his mother.
