Chapter Two

The sound of running water could be heard as the two dragons neared the cave that housed Lasair. A river that ran by it was the cause of this sound, and it seemed to almost calm the nerves of Eitil as he stepped over it and into the lair of the sorcerer.
"Take a seat over by that rock if you will," Lasair motioned towards a medium sized rock on the right side of the cave as he spoke, and Eitil gladly took residence beside it as he awaited the next move of his new acquaintance.
"Could you repeat after me?", he asked the younger dragon after putting away some herbs.
He had been collecting them before he found the other dragon in the clearing earlier.
Eitil was confused at this, but abliged and nodded his head nonetheless, "Uh...sure," he had stated.
Lasair nodded and spoke words of some language completely unknown to Eitil, "Ut ignis."
He was silent for a moment, trying to understand what the older dragon had just said, but he couldn't figure it out and did not desire to keep him waiting much longer.
"Ut ignis...," he said back uncertainly.
"Say it with more confidence, boy!", Lasair growled.
     A bit louder, "Ut ignis."
     Lasair once again snarled, "Louder!"
Eitil's ears faced backwards, and he once again said the words, "Ut ignis!"
This time, however, something happened. Suddenly, flames had erupted from out of thin air, surrounding the young dragon in themselves and causing him to jump, nearly singeing his tail fur off.
"What the heck happened!", Eitil roared in surprise and fear.
Lasair's eyes, however, showed he was filled with delight.
"I knew it!", he kept saying, almost a whisper but managing to just barely stay audible to Eitil.
     "Knew what?!", he exclaimed.
"From the moment I laid eyes on you, I could feel the immense energy radiating off of you! I just had to make sure! You're a sorcerer!", Lasair yelled gleefully.
Eitil was the least bit gleeful, he instead was filled with confusion, "Pardon?", he questioned.
     "You're a sorcerer!", Lasair repeated.
"A sorcerer? Me? But- how?", Eitil inquired tirelessly out of his immense confusion.
"That was a spell that I told you to say, one of the most basic ones. It's normally used to test one if they truly are a sorcerer. It doesn't happen much anymore, but it used to be done to all dragnets once they hatched," Lasair explained, a wide grin on his face.
"And, my results showed that I'm a sorcerer?", Eitil pressed on, still majorly confused about the whole situation.
"Yes. The spell is supposed to create fire, and you did so. If it's your first time using magic, you usually have to dig out the magical energy by saying it loud and enough and with enough confidence, that's why I made you say it so loudly. Now your magical power is radiating off of you more than ever! Of course, normal dragons can't feel it, and if you're trained properly you can learn to hide it," The burly dragon explained to him.
"I see...but, you said the spell also, why didn't you create any fire?", Eitil asked.
As a reply, Lasair moved his head and gazed into the darkness of the cave. Eitil followed his gaze and found that in the darkness, a single small flame flickered. It was so far away, you could barely see it unless it was pointed out.
"I've always been best at using fire-related spells, it's my specialty. I'd say you would be best with wind spells, and after that water if their not equally the same for you. Earth would most likely be a little harder, as would fire magic," it seemed as if Lasair suddenly realized something, and he turned to Eitil to ask, "Are you even interested in sorcery?"
Eitil's eyes were glowing, they had started to when the fire he created first appeared, and they now glowed even brighter with excitement and major interest.
"Of course I'm interested in learning sorcery! It's awesome!", he replied loudly.
Lasair chuckled and smiled down at Eitil, before saying the six words that changed Eitil's whole life,
"I'll take you under my wing."

The flames Eitil created had long since diminished back to wherever they came from, but a new fire was alight inside of him, sparking a determination to learn everything he could about sorcery for as long as he could. His flame never died, even as the sun set, allowing the nearly all of the cave to be delved into darkness, and allowing Eitil time to rest. Time to prepare for tomorrow, where his training would begin.
