Chapter Three

Eitil woke up with excitement the next day. He was ecstatic! He had always read about sorcerers and sorcery, and he'd always had a major liking towards those stories. Now he could actually be apart of his favorite kinds of stories himself, he can actually experience the hardships of becoming a full fledged sorcerer. He didn't know exactly what to expect, but he knew it would be hard, so he would try his very best to be the best he could possibly be.
"Eitil! Come now, we must get started!", Lasair called from further in the cave.
The cave had different caverns, each leading to new rooms. There were five rooms in total: The entrance room, the bedrooms, the potion room, the spell room, and the library, which also counted as a star or cloud gazing room because of the holes in the roof perfect for doing so while you read. Lasair was currently in the library, by the sound of his voice.
"Coming!", Eitil called back with joy. He couldn't wait to start his training, he didn't care what it was that he studied first.
When he entered the room, though, Lasair was reading a book and not even looking at him. There were no potions or lists of ingredients on the page, it couldn't have been a potion recipe. There were just words, but the words were understandable to him, so it couldn't have been spells either. Lasair was reading a regular, every day book.
"So...uh... what am I gonna learn first?", Eitil asked a little impatiently.
Lasair looked over at him at last. He had a blank expression on his face as he gazed at the younger dragon.
"Hm? Oh, I wish for you to clean the library," he stated matter of factly.
     "Pardon?", was Eitil's response.
"The library. I want you to clean it," he repeated.
"But what about my training? You know, to become a great sorcerer?", Eitil asked somberly.
"In due time. Patience. Do not fret, it will come soon enough," Lasair reassured his apprentice with a small smile plastered on his much bigger face. "You'll understand why I wish for this deed to be done by you soon enough as well."
Disappointed, Eitil did as he was told and began to clean the library. He scanned over the scrolls and books that were laying open on the floor before he put them on the shelf, hoping to learn a few things. But, alas, as he didn't know anything to begin with, he didn't understand a single thing written in any of them.
Once he was done, he was tasked with something a little more magic related, but not by much. He simply had to put the potions into their respective places and then the rest of the potion bottles where they belonged as well.
He did other chores throughout the day, and when he awoke the next, he was tasked with even more. He wasn't particularly happy about it, but he was sure he had to do it for a reason, so he kept going and doing as he was told.
On his third day, he yet again went through the same experience of doing chores. He had begun to get agitated, but persevered for the sake of hoping this was the last day. Hoping he would wake up the next morning at be told he was ready to start training with actual magic.

Eitil was yet again filled with determination when he woke up for the forth morning of his training. When he traveled throughout the cave searching for Lasair, he had a feeling that today was finally the day he would stop doing silly chores and start doing actual spells and magic.
When Eitil found Lasair, he was in the potions room, and he had a small grin on his face. It became wider when he saw Eitil was in the room with him. Almost as joyfully as Eitil had felt, he exclaimed the best words Eitil had ever heard in a long time.
"Eitil! Just who I wanted to see! And right on time too! Come! No more chores! You've proved to have enough patience and determination to do this kind of stuff, and now that you've grown a bit stronger and can endure more it will be easier to practice spells, when we get to that," he told the younger and smaller dragon.
All of it was true. Eitil had grown more patient every day, determined to get all the work done in the hopes of finally being able to do spells and magic. And having to do all that hard work had made it easier and easier for him to endure it as the days passed. He finally understood, this was all apart of his training all along, a test to prove he was truly worthy of becoming a sorcerer's apprentice.
Eitil smiled gleefully, "Does that mean that I can finally work on spells and magic?"
Lasair chuckled warm heartedly, "Not exactly," Eitil frowned, suddenly fearful that he would have to do more chores as his ears drifted downward with his mouth, "You'll be making potions instead. I believe they would be easier to start out with and less harmful to your body. Making them can also give you patience and more endurance because of all the hard labor you must put into making them, so when the time comes to start working on spells, you'll be even more prepared. I didn't want you to start off with potions right off the bat, I didn't believe you to have the right amount of patience for that just then, but now I think it's time."
Eitil perked up, his fearfulness long gone and replaced with the most ecstatic of feelings he'd ever experienced.
"Thank you so much! I promise I'll do my very best for the entirety of my training! I promise!", he exclaimed happily.
Lasair gave another low chuckle, "No need to thank me. Instead, how about we get started on learning the basics of potion making, we wouldn't want to waste any time now would we?"
Eitil shook his head furiously, "Of course not! Let's go! Let's go! Let's go!", his voice raised out of joy with every word.
"Alright then, to the library. We'll be looking at a few books for today to help you learn the basics of potion making before you starts getting claws on with them, just to be safe," Lasair explained while he began walking towards the said location.
Eitil nodded, even though Lasair had his back turned, "Yeah of course!", and started bounding over to him, following him to the library.
They had read books for the rest of the day, and with some help from Lasair, Eitil managed to learn an awful lot. The wiser sorcerer had told the apprentice that they would begin to make real potions in the morning, safer ones such as healing potions and magic regeneration potions since he was still a beginner. This had made Eitil extremely eager for the next morning, which caused him to plunge into the land of dreams almost as soon as his head hit the pillow. He couldn't wait for the morning to come and let him finally learn how to properly make stuff claws on.
