Chapter One
Eitil flew low, almost touching the tips of the leaves swaying in the breeze at the top of the trees. He was currently flying above a gigantic forest, which looked silver and full of magic in the moonlight, and with his dark scaled on top and light ones on bottom, he could be shielded from any eyes. He had been flying all night and the whole day after that, and then there was now. He hadn't rested since he took off. He wanted to make sure he was far enough away that he would have no connections to them, so that nobody would know who he was.
Finally, though, his wings had grown tired to the point where they were likely to just stop working on him if it meant resting. They had been hurting since midday yesterday, but he had ignored it for the sake of his freedom. He was unaware of what his parents had decided after they found his note, so he wanted to make sure he would not be found if it was their decision to go look for him.
He couldn't take it any longer, Eitil flew down to the ground as soon as he had spotted a big enough clearing and flopped down, allowing his wings to rest at last. He decided he must have been far enough away by now, he had already passed a few other kingdoms on his way here. This was his fourth one that he had seen, and he figured it was his last.
He curled up, careful not to agitate his sore wings, and closed his sleepy silver eyes, allowing sleep to overtake him after two days of not doing so.
Eitil was woken up by the sound of large footsteps. He didn't bring his head up, and he tried to keep his eyes almost completely closed so that whatever the creature was would believe he was still asleep. It could very easily be a bear, however the footsteps sounded a too heavy for him to fully believe that. It hit him that it could be a dragon, perhaps a rogue one, or a royal guard who found him and knows he's a trespasser.
At this thought, Eitil lifted his head and opened his eyes, hoping to at least catch a glance at this creature. He could feel eyes watching him as he moved. He scanned his surroundings, but he came up with nothing. It was almost as if the intruder was invisible.
"Who's there? I know there's someone there, those footsteps were too large to be a bear's," he called out.
He was half surprised when a voice responded, but he couldn't detect it back to its source, so he stuck in his position.
"I will once I'm aware of who you are. You're not from this kingdom, what business do you have here?", the voice had replied. It sounded like an adult male, if he had to guess.
Eitil could tell this wasn't a guard, if he was he would've showed himself by now. However, it can't be a rogue either because they would've attacked and killed him by now. "You're no royal guard, but I can tell you mean no harm by the way you choose to keep your identity a secret for now, and by the fact that you haven't tried to kill me yet."
Silence was his response. Eitil couldn't tell what kind of silence it was. He couldn't tell if it was shocked silence, or the silence the other made when in thought.
He sighed, "My name is Eitil, if you must know. You're right, I'm not from this kingdom. I'm from a kingdom far away from here, about three or four away to be precise. I've run away from home, and I simply had no desire to return," was all he gave. He did not disclose the information of him being a former prince to the stranger, it was in the past and it did not matter to him.
The other dragon had relaxed, he could tell by the way the atmosphere suddenly calmed from the tense feeling it had when he woke up. He heard rustling and turned in the direction he had heard it, only to find a burly looking dragon there instead.
Eitil opened his mouth to ask the obvious question that would be on anyone's mind, but the other dragon already beat him to it with the answer, "I am Lasair, a sorcerer."
Lasair was a big dragon. He had sandy colored scales, and his eyes were the same lush green that surrounded them both in the forest. He had a large scar on his front left leg, and another on his snout. His eyes seemed to glow with some kind of unnatural light, as Eitil has found his own to do at certain times if he got angry or sad enough, or even happy.
"You have stumbled upon my territory, obviously by mistake by the fact that you are from another kingdom and know nothing of this one. I will forgive you this once, under the notion that you come back with me to my cave. You are right, I have no intention to hurt you, so do not fret. I simply must see if I am correct about something, something concerning you," Lasair said smoothly. His voice had little roughness, but you could tell it did hold some within it.
Eitil stayed silent. He did not understand nor did he know at all what the burly dragon wished to know of him. He nodded anyways, half out of his own curiosity and half out of the fact that he wished not to get into trouble with Lasair for trespassing.
The other dragon nodded to himself, and turned around. He gave a final glance over his shoulder at Eitil, who stood from his sitting position and was ready to follow, before he started towards his home.
