Chapter 6
"Only a best friend can see the pain behind the fake smile."
Aragorn's POV
I stare at Aaron, worried about him. It has been three hours since I wake up as I wake up at 6 and at that time Aaron started his work and trying to find about his heritage. Right now, I really feel that he should take a break.
"Aaron, let's take a break." Aaron stares at me and I give him a mirror for him to see how tired he is. He looks at his own reflection seeing his tired eyes and droopy face and sigh, telling me that he will try to get a break. I take him to his room and sigh as I put him down in bed. I then turn around and go to find the General.
-----General's office-----
"Hey, Aragorn." I smile as I come in after the General responds to my knock on his door.
"Sir, may I ask you something?" the General gestures at me to ask my question.
"I was wondering whether you will let us get time off from work for the whole day." the General smile gently seeing my worried face.
"Of course. Use your time wisely." I grin and I leave the room leaving the General grinning to himself.
------Aaron's room-----
Aaron's POV
I stare at the ceiling wondering how long have I slept and look at the time.
"Ten in the morning huh?" I yawn and stretch as I change into my normal clothes and stare at the piles of paper scattered on the desk.
"I guess still nothing huh?" I still remember the time when the enemy told me that the General is hiding crucial information about my heritage and I feel a twinge of anger as I remember so. I push the thoughts out of my mind as I go out for a light jog.
-----at the park-----
"Hey! Watch it!" I scream at the man as I bump into him.
"So sorry.....wait, Aaron?!" I look up and realize it is Aragorn. He extends out a hand for me to take.
"Sorry for screaming at you like that." I take Aragorn's hand and let him pull me up to my feet.
"It doesn't matter. Anyways, I asked the General whether we could have a day off and he agreed just now." I nod thanking Aragorn for the information and look up at him.
"So what are you going to do later?" Aragorn shrug and he ask me.
"Well, I heard there is a relic that is stored in the Earl of Lightwood's house and that it is powerful. I am going to his party as an honorable guest to check on it. Do you wanna come? I could ask the Earl to give space to let you join anyway." I ask Aragorn and he smiles.
"I would love to." I smile at Aragorn.
"See you later at 6 pm as the party starts at this time. Remember to wear a tux." Aragorn grin at me and we both part ways.
-----at the party-----
"Oh hey, Aaron!" I wave at Aragorn as he walks in.
"As charming as ever." I laugh as I see Aragorn blushing.
"You look charming too." Now it is my turn to blush as Aragorn teases me.
"Boys, stop the teasing." I turn around and there stands.....
"Oh my goodness! I haven't seen you walking here, Erell!" I immediately bow but the Erell tells me to stand up.
"Please don't bow. Anyways, is that your friend that you wrote a letter to me about?" I see that the Earl points politely at Aragorn and I nod. He walks towards Aragorn and smiles.
"Hi. I am the Earl of Lightwood, Erell Lightwood. I am one of the people in contact with Aaron." I see Aragorn smile as Erell puts out a hand for Aragorn to shake.
"Hi. I'm Aragorn Earendil." Aragon takes Erell's hand and shakes hands with Erell.
"I didn't know that you are from the Earendil family. If I would, I could have invited your whole family but alas, my parents would not allow me to invite your family because of the accursed family feud. I only added you to the guest list at the last minute when my parents are not focusing on the list. No offense to you." Aragorn shakes his head.
"It's okay. None taken." Erell smiles gratefully at Aragorn and shows us the way to the ballroom.
"Okay so the bathroom is on your left, the showroom is on your right after going up the stairs to the first floor and the storeroom is on your left on the first floor but I warn you not to go in there as it is off-limits as the valuable relic is in that room. Oh and enjoy the party." Erell walks away and we all mingle with the other guest and try not to talk about the relic that Erell's family is keeping.
-----five hours later-----
"Thank you ladies and gentlemen for coming. Before you go, please get your small gifts which are labeled with your names and placed at the small table beside the door. Thank you and I wish you adieu." Aragon and I take our gifts and we both go back home together with the other guest.
"Hey Aaron, what do you get for the small gift?" I open my gift and inside is a pretty charm bracelet with a butterfly and bird charm on it. I peer closely into the box and gasp.
"Hey. What is it?" I show Aragorn the box and he peers inside. He looks closely and gasps because inside there is the relic that we had wanted.
"Who put it in there?" Aragorn scowl as I say that.
"How do I know?" Suddenly we both fall silent.
"Damn. So we accidentally steal a very fearsome, powerful relic without the owner knowing." Aragorn says that and we both laugh.
"I can't believe that someone put this into the bracelet box." I nod and can't stop laughing, earning a few questionable looks from the people on the street.
"Let's see whether we will be in trouble tomorrow." I nod as Aragorn says that and we just stay quiet all the way back home.
