Twenty Two
"So? How did it go?"
"Perfect. Thanks for heads up. I wouldn't have been have able to nail it the way I did. I think he needs one more push before he really loses it"
"Do you have a plan?"
"Tell me where he is. Maggie is heading your way. If Brian is at home, send him out so that I can do one last thing. Then you wouldn't have to worry"
"No fighting Drew"
"Who said anything about fighting? I'm just going to rub a little salt in the wound so when he sees Maggie he'll explode. I also know I'm asking for too much but if she shows up don't let her leave"
"Why should I stop her?" Abby yelled forcing Drew to take the phone away from his ear for a few seconds.
"This is your plan. If you want it to be successful then you have to listen to me this once. Let them finish confronting each other today. With Brian's anger and Maggie's impulsiveness, they'll say things that can't be taken back. By the end of this day, that relationship should be unsalvageable"
"Okay. Since it's the last time I have to put up with her, I'll endure it"
"So where is your precious brother?"
"Drinking with his friend. I'll text you the details. Don't mess it up"
"He scoffed "I've been this good so far that I think I deserve an Oscar for my performance"
"I wish I was there"
"Don't worry baby, as long as you're happy then I will do anything"
"You're the best. Now go do what you have to do so I can sleep in peace today"
Drew hung up then looked at the text Abby sent him. That imbecile sure did know how to party in style. It was the kind of bar anyone could just enter but thank God for his job because he knew a few people there who would let him in. Getting in his car he put on some music to cheer him up then drove off. This last part was all about twisting the knife in his heart so he could hurt him further. He wasn't stupid. He knew that once Brian thought it over, he'd realize that Maggie was innocent.
There was no way he was the father of that baby. And as beautiful as she was, no one would ever believe it when he said that he'd never felt that way towards her. To him she was simply a friend in his eyes. But her boyfriend was blinded with jealousy and he was using it against him. If he could get them to fight today, then their mission will be completed. He wouldn't have to do anything.
Of course sooner or later the truth would have to come out. That was his part of the plan. After Brian confronted Maggie off, he would go and tell him that his sister was behind everything. He'd get angry with Abby and even take his anger out on her. Then he would go looking for Maggie to apologize but hopefully it would be too late. In short, Brian would realize his mistake but the damage would already be done. Drew was counting on the fact that Maggie wouldn't want to forgive him. She was naive but enough to put up with Brian's accusations. And if need be, he'd talk to her himself to make sure she never forgave that idiot.
"Easy peasy Drew" he told himself laughing. Finally he was going to put that good for nothing in his place. As he pulled outside the club, he took out his pocket knife. If things got any worse, at least he would have something to protect himself with. One step inside and he spotted his prey easily. From the looks of it, he was halfway drunk which worked to his advantage. Drunk people tended to act rashly. Walking to their table, he sat down on one of the chairs asking "Trying to drown your sorrows in alcohol?"
"Why are you here?"
"I was just passing by when I saw you. I told myself that a good man like you deserved the truth"
"I don't want to listen to whatever it is you want to say. Just leave me alone"
"But you have to understand that Maggie couldn't help it. Neither could I. It was one of those situations where our feelings were stronger than us"
"Ignore him Brian. You know he's only here to cause trouble" his friend told him.
Shaking his head, Drew took one of the beers and guzzled it down. A real man didn't need a glass just to drink beer. These two pussies in front of him were in no way better than him and he was going to make it clear to them today. When the bottle was empty, he slammed it on the table "I'm only telling you the truth. Maggie is mine now. Do you want to know what I like most about her?"
No one answered him so he continued "Her feisty nature in bed. Normally she's down to earth but once we enter the bedroom, she turns into a tigress. So..." he didn't finish what he was saying. Brian had kicked back his chair and was getting ready to leave. Time to use the ace up his sleeve "Do you know that she purrs every time I bite her birth mark? It's like her weak spot. Right on top of her left breast..." Drew stumbled back from the punch.
"Stay away from my sister you son of a bitch"
"Abby? Please, she has nothing on Maggie. I would keep her if she was half as good in bed as your ex girlfriend but sadly looks are all she's got"
"You bastard!" Brian snarled, pulling his hand back to punch him again but his friend stopped him.
"He's not worth it bro. Neither of them are. Let's just go"
"We're not done you asshole. When you least expect it, I will strike. You won't even see it coming"
"Oh my God, I am so scared. Look at me shaking in my boots" Drew mocked "Just accept that you're a loser. You couldn't satisfy her so she came running to me. In the future, if you can't perform well then I suggest you buy enhancers. These days they're everywhere. That way, you can at least keep a woman beside you" with that he left, knowing he'd finished what he had set out to do.
--------------------
Maggie hesitated. She'd rushed over to Brian's house to talk to him but now that she was there, she wondered if she was doing the right thing. When he'd left, Brian had been so angry that he'd broken up with her. Surely he'd said it out of anger and she was willing to forget that if he would just listen to her. Of late he had been finding her in awkward situations. That was her mistake. In the future, she would try to avoid them.
But even as she stood outside his door, she couldn't help but remember what Drew had told her. That Brian didn't trust her. Could she have made a mistake? They had been together for one and a half years. He had to trust her. Otherwise, why was he dating her? When she had time she would go to the internet and read relationship related articles because she wanted to better herself. She didn't want Brian to find faults with her. And all those articles had one thing in common. They said that without trust, a relationship was doomed.
Was it possible that hers and Brian's was doomed from the beginning because he didn't trust her? No. She couldn't think like that. Not when she was already pregnant with his baby. They were far into this relationship to start mistrusting each other. Further more, she wasn't here to point fingers but pacify him. He misunderstood what he'd seen and she was going to explain what had happened. That Drew was only trying to cheer her up because she was sad.
"Are you going to come in or stand out there forever?" Abby asked from somewhere inside the house.
Opening the door, Maggie asked "Is Brian here?"
"No. What do you want?"
"To talk to him"
"About what? Did he already find out what kind of trash you are?"
Sighing, she entered and closed the door. Maybe starting with Abby would be a good idea "I'm sorry"
She snapped her head up "For what?"
"For everything I've done to you. I didn't mean to steal anything away from you. It seems that my showing up in Brian's life messed up yours but you have to know that I didn't do it on purpose. If I could go back in time I'd work harder to be your friend"
"Aaww little Maggie knows how to talk now. Do you think I'm stupid enough to believe your fake apology?"
"I'm being sincere Abby...."
"Sincere my ass" she said jumping up "You're pretending to apologize so that when my brother comes back he'll see your efforts and give you another chance. Lucky for you, I'm not dumb. Keep your apologies to yourself. If you want to wait for Brian then feel free to do so. I won't kick you out because I want to see how he'll do it himself"
"I don't understand why you despise me so much"
"That's the difference between the two of us. If I were in your shoes, I would perfectly understand everything"
"Then explain it to me. I hate fighting with you especially when Brian is forced to get in the middle. If you don't like me then it's fine. But can we at least live in peace?"
"You think that after today you'll still be with Brian? God, how stupid are you? He literally found Drew on top of you. He's never going to look at you again let alone continue being in a relationship with you"
"How do you know he...." Maggie stopped when the door opened. The second she saw him, she forgot about everything else. "Brian, what happened?" she rushed forward to help him inside but he pushed her aside.
"I don't need your help or anyone else's"
"Are you drunk?"
"None of your business. Why are you here? Shouldn't you be with your boyfriend celebrating for making a fool out of me?"
"What boyfriend? I am only dating you"
"Says the bitch carrying another man's baby" he retorted heading to his bedroom. Not one to back down, Maggie followed him.
"I know that you're drunk but you shouldn't talk like that. This baby is yours Brian"
"Drunk?" he spun around roaring "You think I'm drunk? Do you think a drunk man would do this?" before she knew what was happening he'd lifted her up and threw her on the bed then climbed on top of her "Do you think a drunk man would still have the strength to do this?" he asked trying to kiss her. Instinctively, Maggie turned her head so that the kiss landed on her cheek
"Stop it Brian"
"Oh I see, now that you have a real man who can satisfy you, I'm no longer needed. Right?"
"What man? Why do you keep insinuating that I have a relationship with someone else?"
"Don't you? You wouldn't even let me kiss you"
"That is because you're angry and your breath reeks of alcohol"
"You think I'm stupid to believe that? And even of its only my breath then I'm sure you wouldn't mind doing other things. Right?"
"What other things?" instead of replying, he sat up and started opening her jeans. She would have let him do whatever he wanted, except the look in his eyes didn't match his actions. He looked disgusted by her. Even as he pulled down the zipper, she knew that if she accepted this then it would be the biggest mistake of her life. Which was why she moved back and out of his reach "No, not like this. I don't want to do it like this"
Slowly he got off her then extended his hand to help her up. Maggie took it, thinking that finally he'd understood what she was saying but then he pushed her towards the door the moment her feet touched the ground. He used so much that she stumbled and fell, scraping her elbow.
"Get out"
"What?" she asked standing up.
"Abby was right about you. You're a wolf in sheep's clothing. Your innocent little face can't fool me anymore. I see exactly what you are Maggie"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that you're a slut. A whore who sleeps with any man she comes across. I was so blinded by my love for you that I couldn't see the kind of person you really are. I'm begging you to get out of my house before I drag you out myself"
"You don't mean any of that Brian" Maggie said crying. "You don't mean it"
"On the contrary, I've never been more honest in my life. If I was the violent type, you'd be covered in bruises right now"
"Did you ever trust me even once? Trust that I love you and would never be with any man?"
"No. Because deep down I always knew you weren't someone to be trusted. That's why I didn't want you to accept Nigel's offer to begin with"
"Brian...."
"Abby!" he yelled cutting her off. The door suddenly opened, knocking her a few feet back. Pointing at her, Brian said "Escort this trash out of our house. If possible, collect everything she owns and throw them out together"
"With pleasure" Abby said smiling. She grabbed her arm and dragged her out, shoving her so hard that fell. Then she went back inside to bring her bag. Taking a handful of her hair, she yanked her head up "You heard what my brother said. You're nothing but trash and this is where you belong. On the cold, dirty floor. Good riddance you bitch!" then she let go of her hair and went in the house, closing the door on her face.
Maggie stood up crying. Never in her life would she have believed it if someone had told her Brian was that cruel. How could he call her such awful names? How could he let Abby do this to her? All because he thought she had found another boyfriend? None of that true. She loved him. Only him. What had she done for him to mistrust her so much? Taking her bag, she started walking home. Relying on her sense of direction rather than her eyesight. It was almost eleven at night and if she had been in the right state of mind, she would have realized that it was too late to be walking home alone.
But her mind was elsewhere. Which is why she didn't notice that people were following her until they cornered her.
"Hello beautiful, isn't it too late to be walking out here by yourself?"

This won't end well. But it's going to end either way. Buckle up 😬😬
