Chapter 9
The next morning, I walked into the office with a headache that could kill a horse. Sitting in my desk chair my mind swirled around trying to figure out how the hell did a damn Marino manage to gain my trust as a drug supplier so easily. I just couldn't wrap my mind around it. None of this was making sense to me at all.
I opened a drawer in my desk and pulled out a bottle of headache medication and popped two pills and guzzled them down with the bottle of water that I had on my desk. That should get rid of the pain. I hoped.
As I sat at my desk trying to figure out how to solve this issue, Aleksei, came walking into my office with a look of pure worry on his face. And I could tell that he was also worrying about the situation that was going on right now.
Looking over to Aleksei, I asked. "What the hell is going on at that damn funeral home? I heard this morning that they are under investigation for wrongful removal of a dead body. Now, I know that they are just crooked as me. But, damn. At least burn a body when I send it to you to get rid of it." I said with an annoyed shake of my head.
I watched as Aleksei sat down in the black leather chair that was across from my desk and then said. "When we dropped Jimmy's body off at Lesman's Funeral Home. Boris and I were promised that Jimmy's body would be cremated this morning along with body of a recently deceased man who died a few days prior. So, that no one would be able to find him. But, apparently they were under investigation at the time that we went."
I ran my hands down my face and gave an aggravated sigh as I listened to what Aleksei had to say. Once he was finished I told him what I had learned about Hailey. "You remember that I had thought that I saw Hailey wearing a police uniform and doing a traffic stop across the street from the Sunset Hotel?"
"Yeah. What about that. Is she really a police officer?"
I nodded my head at him before I said. "Unfortunately. She is."
"Well, what are you going to do about it?" He asked, as he leaned up in his seat a bit, and looked at me with one of his eyebrows cocked.
"I'm going to do absolutely nothing about it. "I replied.
I could see the look of shock that was now starting to appear on Aleksei's face as he heard my reply. And then heard him say. "What do you mean that your going to do absolutely nothing about it, Pakhan? She's a damn cop. Do you know what could happen if she manages to find out what you truly are?!" Aleksei's face was starting to turn as red as a tomato from the panic attack that he was clearly having.
I raised my hands up towards him trying to calm him down. "Look. I trust her. But in all honest truth of it all. I am a bit worried about telling her myself."
I watched as Aleksei sunk down in his seat and sighed heavily before he replied. "Draco. Why couldn't you just have gone for someone that is as dirty as you are. Why the hell did you have to fall for someone like her?"
I stood from my desk and grabbed two glasses from the liquor cabinet in my office and then grabbed a bottle of tequila and poured two glasses. And then handed one off to Aleksei who drank his down in one shot and then stared at me for a couple of minutes then listened to me as I said. "I don't want any other woman. I love Hailey. I know I sound like an idiot. But, damnit I deserve to be able to fall in love. I deserve to happy. And if I want to date a cop. Well then, damnit. I'll date a fucking cop."
I watched as Aleksei as he sat his glass down on my desk and then raised his hands up a bit in the air as a sign of surrender and then said. "Alright fine. I give up. If you want to date a cop, then be happy and date a cop. But, please be careful."
I nodded my head to him as I sat back down at my desk and sat my sweating glass down in front of me and then said. "You know I will. I'm always cautious."
With that situation over and done with we sat there and discussed the Jimmy issue once again. Then we left to go to the auction area where a new collection of men and women would be put up for auction tonight. Once we got into the room I noticed a man that was standing over by the auction stage that I didn't recognize right off hand.
I watched the man for a couple of minutes, watching every move that he made. And then turned to Aleksei and asked. "Who the fuck is that, when did he start working for me?" I asked in a stern voice.
"That's Rich. He started with us a couple of months ago." Aleksei answered.
Scratching the side of my neck I asked. "Please, tell me that he has had a full background check on him? I don't need any more problems coming up.
"I can assure you, Draco. That we did a full background check on him and nothing rather major came up. However, Rich is still under a probation period with us until next month." He replied.
"Good. Make sure that you keep a good watch over him. One fuck up and he is gone." I said and sat down in one of the fold-out audience seats.
I watched as the men walked back and forth across the stage setting up the platform and everything else that was needed for tonight. However, the longer I sat there in the dimly lit seating area the more that I kept thinking about my current situation with Hailey.
I knew that me telling her had both good and bad points. On one hand there was her reporting me for being a crime boss and I could be jailed for years. Or even worse killed. Or I could tell Hailey and hope for the best. Oh my god, I am such a fucking idiot.
I could mentally slam my head into the wall multiple times from all the bad thoughts that kept running through my head right now. I knew that there was something that I had to do and that was invite Hailey to go hang out tonight and maybe take a little trip on the yacht that I purchased last year.
With that in mind, I stood from my seat and pulled out my phone and started texting Hailey to get my glorious plan underway.
