Chapter 4

"I can't fucking believe this." I said to myself as I saw Shahzeb help Shehryaar sit at the sofa.

I just got back to find out that Shehryaar was found and Shahzeb brought him back. He was bare chested, white gauze covering his abdomen as a jacket hung on his shoulders. His pants were messy as well as his boots. Shehryaar glared at me, his face twisting in pain.

"I believe it. I just fought off the jaws of death." He tried to humour me but I was too damn serious and too damn furious with him to be humoured.

"I know," Shahzeb sighed, looking at his brother with relief as well as concern. "You've been missing for almost twenty four hours now. How the fuck did you end up in a government hospital?" He inquired, his tone hard.

Shehryaar threw his head back, resting against the sofa as he rubbed his forehead.

"The deal with the chinese didn't go well." He sighed.

"Of course it didn't go well." Shahzeb sneered. "How did you think it would go? They don't know about us and they don't trust us yet you ended up going to them and ordered them for an alliance."

"I didn't order. I offered. And it was a good offer which those bastards failed to recognise." Shehryaar rebuked.

"It doesn't matter Shehryaar!" Shahzeb said loudly. Shehryaar glare at Shahzeb. I know that he hated it whenever Shahzeb used his authoritative tone but he had no choice right now. Shahzeb was worried sick when Shehryaar went off radar for almost a day. He didn't follow Shahzeb's instructions to stay away from the Chinese Mafia in Islamabad but Shehryaar was adamant on making ties with them.

"I had told you to stay put." Shahzeb gritted through clenched teeth. "But you don't give a fuck to what I have to say, like always. I had told you to wait, we will meet with the Chinese Mafia boss in Beijing but you didn't heed my warning. You almost got yourself fucking killed!"

Shahzeb was literally exploding and Shehryaar was as nonchalant as ever. It pissed me and Shahzeb off.

"Well I'm not." He rolled his eyes. "I got back. I'm fucking alive as you can see."

"Yeah I can." Shahzeb shook his head, his tone lowering as his anger slipped away from his face and concern replaced it. "Then you're a lucky bastard for that. But that's not my point. You're always reckless and impulsive. You always try to dominate everything that you can get your hands on. Don't you realise what could've happened if the worst came to pass? You could've died."

"Well, I didn't." Shehryaar snapped and tried to get up but groaned as he tried to stand. I came forward to help him up but he stopped me with a gesture of his hand.

"They almost ended up killing me but I'm alive." Shehryaar spoke, his voice laced with the pain he was feeling. "So, you're going to go to Beijing next week and set up a meeting with their boss. They know about us now."

Shahzeb's face hardened, his jaw clanched tightly when he realised something. "Did you deliberately do this?"

Shehryaar smirked. "That I did. They shot another Mafia boss at a meeting, thus breaking some rules and now, we have them. If we use this chance wisely, we can have the Chinese Mafia as allies." Shehryaar stipulated.

Shahzeb was silent as he contemplated what his brother just told him. It baffles me sometimes to think how calculative Shehryaar was. His every move was made wisely. He was one power hungry mad dog, going so far as to risk his life for an alliance with a Mafia that is famous for having no friends.

"How did you end up in that hospital?" Shahzeb asked after a few seconds of silence. "I took a brief report of your condition before I got to you at the hospital. They told me that you were almost dead from excessive bleeding but they were able to help you in time." Shahzeb said. "Who helped you get to the hospital? All our the men with you were found dead in the shed where you met with the underdog."

I also wanted to know that. I looked at Shehryaar and my eyes widened in shocked surprise when I saw a cryptic look enter his eyes and a small smile stretch on his lips. He didn't bother answering and decided to walk past Shahzeb but he had also noticed the change in Shehryaar's demeanour. He caught his arm and looked at him sternly.

"I asked you something, brother." He asked in a low calm yet powerful voice.

Shehryaar stared at his brother with a neutral face. "An angel." He replied, releasing his arm from his brother's grip and limping towards the stair case. Shahzeb and I watched him walk away. What the hell does that mean?

Shahzeb collapsed on the sofa, sighing deeply.

"Honestly," i said as I poured some water in a glass and handed it to Shahzeb who immediately accepted it. "Sometimes it's hard for me to believe that you two are related." I chuckled, trying to lighten up the mood.

"Well we have the face for it."he sighed and drank.

"Yeah you do. One ugly mug looking like the other." I joked but Shahzeb was staring into space, a thought expression marring his brow. Usually he would've retorted within a second but I knew this look. He was worried for Shehryaar and the bastard didn't give a damn about it.

"What do you think he could've meant by 'an angel'?" I inquired.

"That's what i want to know as well."

We were silent for a few seconds.

"He's up to something." He murmured, breaking the silence.

"Up to what?"

Shahzeb looked at me and shrugged. "If I knew I wouldn't be thinking about it to figure it out." He mused.

"Don't worry about it. You know how he is. He's always been reckless."

"Not to the point of fearlessness."

"That's Normal of him. He's absolutely fearless." And that's saying something. We both knew how fearless and destructive Shehryaar was. It wasn't normal but it was pretty normally acceptable for him. He always defied Shahzeb. He never followed through his twin's instructions. Shahzeb had learned a long time ago that Shehryaar refused to take orders from anyone. Especially when they got Independent from their family's hold, Shehryaar has been trying to make allies but he ended up making tons of enemies instead. I stayed with Shahzeb most of the time but I was also the second in command to Shehryaar's Mafia. Shahzeb may be the boss but Shehryaar was the one who called the shots. Where Shehryaar was more concerned for his Mafia, Shahzeb was more concerned with Working over The company, Indus Enterprises.

"Not this much." Shahzeb mused. "Thats why I'm concerned."

"Want me to find out about it?"

"No," he shook his head. "I think I'll look into this myself. There's more to it."

"Maybe you're reading too much into the situation." I said.

"And maybe I'm not. I mean, he was found and sent to a hospital in time before he bled out. And that's what I find strange. As far as I know, he had no one to help him. And who ever helped him, he knows about it but he's trying to hide it." He told me. I frowned in confusion.

"Why would he do that?" I inquired. "If someone helped him then he would be in that person's debt."

"Exactly, remember how he rewarded Qadeem for his help and look where he is now."

I smirked. "Serving as head of security."

Shahzeb nodded and jumped to his feet. "I'll find out about it. Till then, keep an eye on him. He's not going to rest and with his injuries, I know he won't be careful."

I looked at Shahzeb. He was absolutely solemn. "You really love him don't you?"

He smiled. "Of course I do. He's the only family I've got. I can't lose that idiot."

***********

Zameer pulled his car to the sidewalk. He looked at himself in the rear mirror. His hair was alright. His jaw was clean shaven and his cologne was rich. His suit and tie was just right.

Sighing to himself he started the car again and headed off to Hotel Grand Karachi.

Tonight, he was having a dinner date with his fiancée, Sarah kharazmi, an heiress to the city's most influential and powerful business man, Tahir Kharazmi. She used to be Shehryaar's fiancée once. This arrangement was made by Shahzeb when Indus Enterprises rose to prominence. At that time, Shehryaar was interested since it would help in extending his empire and making him more powerful then he already was. But what Shehryaar never knew was that Shahzeb's intentions were something else. He wanted his brother to settle down with a good woman who might be able to arouse some humanity in Shehryaar. And as luck would have it, it wasn't Sarah Kharazmi that was destined to be Shehryaar's wife. When Shehryaar met Anissa, he broke off his engagement to Sarah Kharazmi.

Zameer got engaged to her after Shehryaar broke off his engagement to her. The Kharazmi family was strong and an alliance through marriage was important. So when Shehryaar broke off his engagement, Shahzeb requested Zameer to take Shehryaar's place. And Zameer could not refuse Shahzeb anything especially when he never asked Zameer anything other then his council and friendship.

It was a poilitical marriage. It wasn't that Shehryaar needed this alliance anymore since he had grown very powerful over the years. But with the number of enemies that Shehryaar had made, it became necessary for him to have some allies. Zameer had no problem with the arrangement. In the beginning, he thought that he could easily get along with Sarah. But it turned out that Sarah Kharazmi had no interest in him or the arrangement. Though she was a proper high class lady, around Zameer's age but Zameer discovered that she was a dreadfully quiet and cold woman. Sarah had been his fiancée for two years now, and she showed no interest in him and he isn't attracted to her in the least as well. Her attitude was cold and calculative towards him But he still tried to be courteous. After all, an alliance with one of the oldest prestigious houses of Karachi was indeed needed, not only for Shehryaar and his Mafia but also it meant a great deal to the Kharazmi family.

Zameer remembered how inert Shehryaar was when he got engaged only for the sake of power.

But after he found Anissa and broke the engagement, Shahzeb requested Zameer to take Shehryaar's place. And Zameer remembered how pissed he was at Shahzeb for trying to tie him down but he couldn't refuse Shahzeb, whom he owed so much and was deeply indebted to him.

As Zameer got to the parlour in the lobby, a bouquet of fresh flowers in his hands, he stood out splendidly. The matre De escorted him to his table. As he waited, he kept gazing at his wrist watch.

She's late. Again. He thought.

"Damn rich people." He hissed under his breath.

Zameer hated it whenever people from the elite did that. He was used to Shehryaar's ways long before he was introduced into the Elite but ever since he saw how the rich and wealthy behaved and interacted, he felt disgusted with them. He didn't approve of their ways. And he absolutely hated high headed rich bastards who had nothing to think of other then themselves. He just didn't understand why they felt so superior, as if the world revolved around them or something. Zameer was pretty conscious about this fact. But he never forgot where he came from. His past was a strong part of himself but being around the rich and wealthy sometimes made him feel inferior and self conscious. And he absolutely hated feeling that way. His suave nature and cold hard exterior may not give away his thoughts, but this was what was in his heart. Zameer thought that all rich people were extremely obnoxious.

His fiancée was no less. She knew the type of background Zameer came from and because of that, she looked down on him. Zameer understood that. But just like himself, she understood how important this marriage was. Zameer didn't know much but he had inferred as much: Sarah Kharazmi wanted to gain her father's approval, who didn't have any son, so she wanted to prove useful to her father as the future Heiress to his fortune and wealth.

Zameer knew that Sarah despised him and he couldn't help but despise her as well but he was a gentleman when it came to ladies. He may be a ruthless killer and assassin but when it came to work, he was focused. And even though it was his life, he was willing to throw it all away for the sake of his loyalty. And now that he had ended up losing his Saeen's trust and good grace, he had no choice but to keep up with the facade.

When Shahzeb had died, he could've easily broken his engagement to Sarah but he didn't. This engagement was Shahzeb's first and last request to him. Shahzeb knew about Zameer's desire for a family. Maybe, this was his effort at making Zameer's dream come true. After all, he was a very caring friend. But he only ended up trapping Zameer in a loveless marriage with a woman who despised him and who bored him.

He knows that sarah used to be in love with Shehryaar but she was heartbroken when he broke off the engagement. And because of that, she despises Zameer, more so then his roots.

Zameer was a real charmer when it came to women but with this particular heiress, he couldn't help but feel annoyed. She wasn't affected by him in the least.

Zameer sighed and just as he looked up, he saw the young lady, Sarah Kharazmi approach him. He quickly jumped to his feet and plastered a smile on his face.

Sarah Kharazmi was a beautiful woman. She was graceful and possessed the class of a true lady. She was dressed in a red Sari, her hair pulled up in an elegant bun, leaving her long slender neck bare. Sure enough, she was breathtaking. Zameer, like every other hot red blooded male, was attached to her but that was about it.

She was a beauty alright, but she lacked humility and modesty. Unlike Dr. Sadia, she didn't bother with keeping herself in a modest state of dressing. Unlike the young doctor, Sarah loved wearing short bloused Saris and chest bearing night gowns.

Wait? What? Where did that thought just come from? Zameer wondered but he didn't ponder much on it as Sarah approached the table.

"Asalam alaikum," Zameer greeted when she arrived at the table. Zameer went to the opposite side of the table and pulled out her chair. Sarah nodded and sat down.

Zameer returned back to his seat and smiled at Sarah, who had a scowl on her face.

"How are you, Sarah?" He inquired, his tone calm and control.

"Very well, thank you." She answered in monotone.

"How have you been this past month?" He inquired as a waiter came and placed their juice goblets on the table. They always met once a month since Sarah Attended university in Lahore for her MBA in business while Zameer travelled around the country and abroad.

"As I've always been, well." She said, showing the the least bit of concern.

"How are you studies going?"

"Fine." She replied as she looked at him.

Zameer nodded. It was always like this between them; brief and bland.

"I heard from your father that you're result came out and you passed with flying colours. Many congratulations."

"Thank you." She said dryly. Zameer couldn't help but feel annoyed but he was already used to her cold and dry behaviour. Zameer felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. He took it out and immediately cancelled the call when he saw that it wasn't from Shehryaar.

"How is your father, by the way?"

"You should know. If he's told you about my result then I'm sure that you know he's fine." She retorted, her tone harsh. Zameer clenched his hands into fists beneath the table. She was unbearable at times. Zameer stared at her for a few seconds. She did the same. Now that was what Zameer liked about her. The only thing he liked about her so far. She was confident. Unlike Dr. Sadia, she wasn't timid and looked at him in the eye and wasn't afraid or intimidated by him.

Wait? Did I just compare Sarah with that little girl? Zameer thought. He had no idea where that thought came from. Why did he think like that again? He took a deep breath and stared at Sarah.

She was a beauty alright but he couldn't help but compare her with Sadia. She was a cute little thing.

Wait, what's going on? Again! Why am I thinking about her? Why am I comparing them? Zameer was baffled with the way he was subconsciously comparing his bride to be with a complete stranger. He might've been escorting the young doctor for two months now but that was about it. He only knew of her from her file and nothing more. But Sarah, he knew her since two years now.

Sarah Kharazmi and Sadia Rehman were no compare. Sadia Rehman was a doctor coming from a humble middle class background. Yeah, she had quite the repuatation of a young genius but Sarah Kharazmi was an Heiress.

"What?" Sarah narrowed her eyes at him when she found him staring at her so blatantly. Zameer was pulled out of her thoughts when he felt his phone vibrate again.

"I'm sorry?"

"You were openly staring at me." She stated with dismay.

"Oh, I apologise, it's nothing." Zameer realise that he was staring at her absentmindedly and he felt his irritation glare up. Zameer sighed deeply. He had no idea where these thoughts were coming from so he tried to distract himself. Zameer cancelled the call again and cleared his throat, trying to dissipate the awkwardness in the air.

"Here," Zameer pulled out a rectangular velvet box from his pocket and placed it infront of Sarah.

"What's this?" She glared at the box.

"My congratulatory gift to you." Zameer said.

"Thank you." She said but didn't bother touching the box.

"Wouldn't you like to see what's Inside?"

"I will, later."

"I would like it if you opened it now." Zameer insisted, his voice soft as he flashed her his famous smile.

Sarah eyed him, her green eyes shimmering with annoyance but she went on to open the box. There was a silver diamond bracelet in the box.

"It's nice." She claimed blandly.

Zameer sighed to himself. Spoiled brat. He thought spitefully but didn't let his emotions appear on his face.

As they commenced with dinner, he saw Sarah pick at her food as she kept on glancing at her wrist watch.

He could clearly sense her discomfort. He knew that she didn't want to be here. He was the same. But their circumstances forced them.

His loyalty to his Saeen and dead friend's request forced him to be with her.

And her desire to gain her father's approval forced her to be with him.

"I know that you are in a rush to leave." Zameer said as he dabbed his mouth with the handkerchief. "But we are suppose to get married in six months. You should get used to me by now." He said.

Sarah scowled at him. "You don't have to remind me." She snapped. "I know what I have to do!"

"Whoa, calm down." Zameer raised his hands in surrender. "I was only saying."

"Well, don't." She hissed.

"Sarah, we-"

"I think that I should be going now." She jumped to her feet, her chair screeching back.

"Of course." Zameer sighed and got up as well. As he walked her out, her car was already waiting for her. Zameer opened the back door for her and she climbed in without a word or glance at him. As he watched her car leave the premises of the hotel, he felt his phone vibrate again.

"What!" He snapped as soon as he answered his phone.

"Sorry to disturb you man,"

"This better be damn important!"

"It is. I just found something important."

"In regards to?"

"That lady who you wanted me to investigate."

Zameer frowned. "You gave me her report a month ago." He said, feeling his anger rise at the man's incompetence. "Are you trying to tell me that report was false? What the fuck! you know that that report went straight to my boss!"

"Yeah but calm down. What I found, i put it in that report. It isn't false but I was just looking for more when I came to know this. Trust me, you would wanna know this." He said.

"What is it?" Zameer sighed, feeling exhausted all of a sudden.

"Her father isn't just a businessman. His public profile hides his true profession and for a good reason too."

"So?"

"He's a General in the army. He's General Abdul Rehman Baig." That got Zameer's attention immediately as he felt his heart begin to beat fast, his mouth hanging open and his eyes widening in bewilderment. He knew that name all too well. And now he understood why the General had to hide his true identity. He as working with the intelligence and he was the General set out to destroy The MMM party.

He was Shehryaar's biggest enemy. As well as Zameer's greatest hindrance who didn't let him do his job right at the Russian route front.

"Send me the info, now!" He quickly hung up and called for his car.

So, Sadia Rehman was Gen. Abdul Rehman Baig's daughter. She was the daughter of the enemy, working under them in pure ignorance of who she was and what they were. He couldn't believe that he had he enemy's daughter right in his midst.

What a coincidence!

No, this wasn't was not a coincidence. This was fate.

Zameer smirked to himself. He may have just found a way to rectify his compromised situation. He finally found a way to gain back Shehryaar's trust.
