Trust

When in a relationship, trust is something essential. Once broken, it can be fixed, but it will never be the same. Love is something that comes with trust. If there is no trust, love can no longer help a relationship, no matter how big and true it may be.

"Yes, Love. Just one more scene and I'm done, 'kay? No, you don't have to pick me up, I'll be fine. Okay, bye. I love you too," Kylie said to her husband through the phone and hung up.

She swiped her red lipstick across her lips one more time before sitting down and reviewing her script. She sighed and put the script down because, honestly, she read that thing over a bazillion times. She picked up her favorite Lang Leav poetry book and opened it to start reading, but her focus was derived from the book when she saw her bookmark- it was a picture of Ruru carrying their little Amir in his arms topless and they were both laughing. Her two precious boys.

"Pwede sumilong dito, Ma'am?" a masculine voice said.

Kylie raised her head and saw Aljur drenched in rainwater. Saying she was surprised was a great understatement. What would her ex be doing in the set of her movie? Why did he run in the rain? Like, what?!

"AJ, what are you doing here?" she asked and rose from her seat.

"Nagpapasilong sa ulan," he replied.

"Huwag ka ngang pilosopo. What are you doing in the set, I mean?"

"Napadaan lang. The set for your new movie is near the parking lot and just so happens na I was on my way to my car tapos umulan. Yung tent mo ang pinaka malapit eh," he shrugged like it was the most normal thing to be taking off your shirt in front of your married ex.

"I-i'll go get you a towel," she says awkwardly, not really knowing how to react. She opened her bag and found a blue towel, but she couldn't let him use that one because that was hers and Ruru bought her that. She searched but only found a white towelette so, she gave him that to wipe his soaked hair and whatever.

"Pwede bang dito muna ako hanggang tumahan na ang ulan?" he asked politely.

"Okay, pero I have one more scene to go tapos I have to go na," she smiled.

"Oh? Ang aga naman," Aljur commented.

"I try not to pack my schedule too much. I have a baby who needs me at home pa eh."

"Ay, oo nga pala noh? Nanay ka na ngayon," he said and it sounded a little sharp in Kylie's ears.

"Yup, nanay na ako and I love it. It's the most fulfilling job ever," she said looking at Amir's many pictures on her phone.

"Ano yan?" the man curiously asked, peeking from her side.

"Pictures of my baby."

"Uy, patingin!" he exclaimed. The guy has always been fond of kids.

Kylie scrolled through her gallery some more and found the video of Amir saying his first word, 'Mama'. It was adorable and Kylie couldn't help but miss her boy even more.

"Ang cute niya."

"Thank you," she said and smiled. Then, a high-pitched scream exploded from her phone. It was Amir squealing in delight when Ruru tickled his side along with her husband's deep laughter. And then, it was her squealing when Ruru tickled her really hard.

She quickly turned it off, knowing the intimacy of the kiss after that scene, "Sorry, we're a weird family."

"Oh, no. Ang cute niyo nga eh. I'm happy for you," he smiled a genuine smile.

"Thank you."

A pregnant silence filled the atmosphere and Kylie felt a little awkward. She cleared her throat. "Uh, I'll go out muna. I think you need to change. You're drenched, AJ."

"Sige. Thank you, Ky," he nodded politely.

"No problem," she said and quickly got out of the tent.

Luckily, the rain stopped and she was able to sniff some of that unpolluted, damp air. After that unexpected little whatever you call it with Aljur, she felt like a thorn was picked out from her as soon as she got out. She did feel really awkward around the guy, though he was very polite. She turned around looking for a person to talk to and found her husband walking away from her tent.

"Ru!" she called, suddenly excited.

He turned around with a straight face. She ran to him with open arms and hugged him as if it's been too long since they've seen each other.

"You here to pick me up?" she asked and kissed him.

He only nodded.

"Where's Amir?"

"Home with Rere," he replied shortly.

"Masama ba gising mo?" she asked, noticing that he wasn't his usual silly self.

"Hindi. Tapos ka na?"

"Just one more scene, then we can go. Wait lang, ha?" she cooed playing with his hair and stood even closer to him, if that was even possible. "Love you, Lablab."

He nodded.

She pouted, "Wala bang reply diyan?"

Then, somebody called out to Kylie for her next scene causing her break away from her husband. "Got to go, Love," she, then, kissed him on the cheek.
-
"Love, thank you for picking me up, ha?" Kylie looked at her husband, trying to strike up a conversation.

He nodded again.

She sighed and slumped on her chair. Once again failing at this conversation thing, she turned on the radio to listen to some music. She let out a wide grin when 'Say You Won't Let Go' came on.

"Lovie! It's the very first song you ever sang to me, remember? In Batangas, diba?" she squealed.

"Yeah," he let out a small smile.

She silently smiled waiting for his voice to fill the car, but he, too, stayed silent. Her smile faded as she realized he wasn't gonna sing. "Baba, you okay?"

"Yeah," he replied shortly.

She sighed again, long and loud. "You sing for me naman, please?"

"Makati lalamunan ko."

"I don't care. You know, your voice is far from perfect- sort of pitchy, a little too husky, sometimes out of key- but I love it. Kaya, sige na, Love, please? Pretty please?" she begged lovingly.

"Fine," he said before singing.

Although he was singing one of his favorite songs, there was no emotion in his voice. It was empty, almost like he was just singing for the sake of singing, not for his wife. And that didn't get left unnoticed by Kylie.
-
"Finally! Makaka gala na din! Bye, Kuya! Bye, Ate Ky!" Rere exclaimed dramatically and hugged the couple before bolting out of the household.

A loud coo was heard before Kylie crouched to carry her baby boy in her arms, "My baby! Did you miss me? Did you miss Mama?"

"Mama!" Amir giggled.

"I missed you, my little pogi," she kissed his chubby cheek.

The baby laughed and leaned his little head on his mother's chest, blowing spit bubbles. Kylie swayed from side to side, noticing the time and realizing it was nearly bed time for the youngster.

"Sleep na ikaw, Pogi?" she cooed. She looked at her husband, "Ikaw, Pogi, antok na din ikaw? Sungit mo eh."

He rolled his eyes and slumped on the couch with crossed arms. Kylie laughed, "Antok ka na din, noh? Kawawa naman."

"Hindi na ako bata, Kylie," he said coldly.

Kylie put the baby in his little play pen to sleep momentarily while she figures out why her husband was acting this way. "Night, night, baby love."

"José Ezekiel, anong problema mo?" she raised an eyebrow.

"Tanungin mo sarili mo, Kylie Nicole."

"Aba, matigas din ang ulo nito. Halika nga dito," she said using her pointer finger.

"No," he shook his head and started to walk away.

Kylie chased him, ending up in the kitchen. "Ano ba? Sabi mo hindi ka bata pero kung maka walk out ka, daig mo pa si Yuan Francisco!"

"I'm not in the mood to argue. Leave me alone," he said wanting to walk out again, but Kylie held his arm and forced him to face her.

"Ano. Ang. Problema. Mo? Answer," she demands.

"Tanungin mo nga sarili mo."

"Damn it, José Ezekiel, don't give me a hard time kase I don't know why the hell you're asking this way," she dropped each word with a clenched jaw.

"And you think I didn't have a hard time seeing my wife with her topless ex after God knows what the hell they did in that tent?!" he finally erupted.

It hit Kylie like a slap in the face. He saw them. He saw Aljur topless in her tent. But she didn't do anything wrong, then again, he was topless.

"He was topless because he was drenched in rainwater!"

"Rainwater? Kaya pala doon talaga siya sa tent mo, noh? Sa dinamidami nang tent sa set," he said sharply.

She was offended, very much so. "Ru, how can you think of me that way? Ganoon ba ka baba ang tingin mo sa akin?" her voice hushed as it started to shake and tears started to fill her eyes.

"Bakit? Ano ba ang iniisip ko?"

"Hindi ako tanga, Ru! How can you even think of that?! Do you not trust me?!"

Ruru suddenly felt ashamed, "I-it's not you that I don't trust, it's-"

"Bullshit, Ru! Pure bullshit! If you really trusted me, then that thought wouldn't even cross your mind kase alam mo na I would never do that. Kung may tiwala ka sa akin, you should have known that I would never in a thousand years do anything to betray you! Not even unintentionally," she wiped away her tears and stormed out of the kitchen.

Ruru felt like beating himself up. "Stupid, stupid, stupid! Ruru, naman!"
-
Ruru knocked on the door of their bedroom, leaning against the hard material, "Love, magusap naman tayo, please?"

Silence answered him.

"Kylie, I'm sorry. Let me in, please?" he pleads and knocks again.

When she didn't answer, he decided to use the spare key to open the door. He opened the mahogany door with a creak and found his wife curled into a ball on their bed, her shoulders shaking with every cry. His heart broke at the sight.

He crawled on the bed beside her and slowly put his arms around her, "Baby, I'm sorry. Please forgive me."

"It hurts, Ru. It hurts so much," she sobbed. "You don't trust me."

"No, no, my love. It's not like that. Not at all, I promise," he kissed her shoulder. "It isn't you I don't trust."

He paused while Kylie's sobs died down to little sniffs.

"I-i don't know how to explain this in a way where I don't sound shallow, but it's myself that I don't trust," he whispered timidly, his nose buried in the ruffle of brown hair Kylie had.

Kylie stayed silent, waiting for his words to spill.

"I don't trust myself. I can never assure myself that I am good enough for you. My lack of trust with myself breeds such awful thoughts, Love, awful, awful thoughts," he paused again as a flood of insecurities and thoughts came rushing in his mind. "I-i am terrified that one day, you'll wake up and realize that you can find someone so much better than me and there are thousands of men out there that-"

"Ru," she cut him off, and faced his tear stained face, "Even if I know you are not the best man in the world, you will always be more than enough for me. You have given me so much joy and love. You gave such a beautiful, beautiful baby boy. And even if I meet a million Ruru's, I will always choose you. Because you are the one I love, you're the one who loves me, you're the one who makes me happy. I will always, always choose you. You are more than enough for me, for us and I just hope that you can see that," she held his chin so that his eyes met hers.

"Everyone who has ever had the privilege of having you in this life is the luckiest person ever. Anyone who has a person as kindhearted, gentle, talented, loyal, honest, and as amazing as you would be ultimately blessed, Love. So, do me a favor and trust yourself and your capabilities, okay?" she wiped his tears with her thumbs.

"Okay," he nodded, "I love you so much."

"I love you so much, too, mi amore," Kylie replied before her lips were captured by the man she loved the most.

Ruru broke away from the kiss first and hugged his wife to his chest, "I am so, so sorry for hurting you, mi amore. I didn't mean to. I'm sorry."

"It's okay, Love, it's alright," she nuzzled his chest. "I can't breathe now."

He laughed and loosened his embrace, "I love you."

"I love you too," she replied.

Then, the wails of Amir from the living room was heard. Kylie smirked knowingly, "Go get the baby."

Ruru groaned and unwillingly got up, "Andiyan na si Baba, Amir. Teka lang!"

A while later, Ruru walked in with a grumpy, sleepy baby in his arms. Amir was thrashing his arms and kicking his legs while Ruru held him tight so he doesn't fall.

"My grumpy boy, come here," Kylie reached out to the baby and Ruru more than willingly handed her the infant.

Kylie lulled the child to sleep and stared at her husband and silently thanked God that He gave him to her. She whispered her silent prayer of thanksgiving while staring at her two boys.

I don't deserve this. Thank You, God.
