Lolo

Just a heads up, this one shot is not all jolly-goody like the last ones.

In this one shot, Ruru and Kylie had Amir and they're not married yet. So basically, they're in a situation like Kylie and Aljur.

Inspired by an article I read a while ago that shattered my heart.
-------
Kylie sat down staring at her phone with her son in her arms. She was thinking about texting her father again. You see, Robin hasn't seen his grandson. It's either he's really busy or really tired. He could never really visit their house.

She carefully picked her phone up with one hand and adjusted the baby on the other. Hesitantly, she clicked her father's mobile number to text him. Typing and deleting words, she didn't know what to say.

"Pa, kamukha niyo po anak ko, puntahan niyo na."

Send.

Seen.

After a few seconds, her phone notified her that Robin replied. Once again, she picked it up hoping he would say he'd finally visit.

"Talaga, anak? Nakakatuwa naman."

She sighed, still no signs of a visit. She glanced at her two month old, staring at his angelic face while he was soundly asleep. She let go of her phone and gently ran her fingers through his jet-black hair.

"You're gonna meet Lolo, my love. Don't you worry, Mama's gonna find a way," she whispered.
'What's the big deal if he doesn't see his grandson?' you may think but, Amir meant so much to her. Just like any other mother, her baby was her most treasured possession. Robin seeing her son would be like her showing him her well-earned trophy.

Amir is gonna be two months old in a week and, still, Robin never got a glance of him. Yes, she discussed the thought of them visiting her father's house but, his reply was always,"Huwag ngayon, Anak. Pagod ako," or, "Walang tao sa bahay."

She couldn't help but think he didn't want to see his grandson. She shook of the thought.

No, it couldn't be. This kid is his grandchild.

She looked out the window of their car as Ruru was driving. They were on their way to Robin's house.

If he wasn't gonna make an effort, they were.

Kylie looked back to the car seat in where her son was in. Amir yawned and slowly awakened. His eyes were drifting in many directions as if he was trying to figure out where he was. She smiled at him.

"Hi, baby. You're awake na," she cooes as the baby shifted his sight towards her direction. Ruru took a quick glance at them and grinned.

"Gising na ba yang baby na yan?"

"Opo, Baba. Gising na po si ako," Kylie answers in behalf of the baby causing him to snicker.

"Love, andito na tayo. Doorbell muna tayo di kase bukas ang gate eh," he said. Kylie suddenly felt nervous. She didn't know why.

Ignoring the loud beating of her heart, she got out of the car and took the baby out of the car and stood before the tall gates of the Padilla Residence. She took a deep breath and used her pointer finger to press the doorbell.

She was answered by a helper, "Ay! Ma'am Kylie andito po pala kayo ni Sir Ruru."

"Opo, Manang. Paki sabi po kay Papa na andito kami," she said smiling to the maid and leaning her head on Ruru's shoulder.

In a short while, the helper was back. She smiled apologetically at them, "Sorry po, wala po kase sila Sir Robin dito eh."

Then they heard the feminine voice of Mariel screaming, "Babe, si Isabella!"

Kylie smiled at the helper who looked like the guiltiest person on earth. She wasn't mad at the lady and she didn't persist to get inside even if she knew that her father was just inside. They left the manang with a smile and traveled back home.

"Love, okay ka lang?" Ruru asked on their way home. Kylie was very silent and did nothing but look out the window. She didn't even nod to the music on the radio like she usually does.

"Love, ayos ka lang ba?" he asked again when she didn't answer.

"I'm fine, Love," she plastered a fake smile.

"Sure ka? Usap nalang tayo sa bahay," he said taking her hand in his and kissing it.

She only nodded in return. Of course, that was a lie. She really didn't get why he had to lie about not being in the house. All she wanted was for him to see her son. Now, she really believes he didn't want to see Amir.

The moment they stepped into their home, Kylie slumped unto the couch as Ruru placed their son on the portable co-sleeper. She felt so much pity for her son. Kylie grew up being so spoiled by her grandparents, she couldn't imagine realizing that your grandfather doesn't even want to see you.

"Love, usap tayo?" Ruru offers.

"No, it's okay, Love," she replies. He nodded and hugged her as an effort to comfort her. He didn't push her to talk about what she was feeling because he knows the only reason she isn't talking is because she's not ready.

A week after the incident, she decided to try again but alone this time. If there was gonna be a heartbreak, it was gonna be hers alone; she didn't want to give her two boys a heartbreak.

So she left the baby with Ruru in their house, she left and drove herself to her father's house. She didn't understand what was happening. It was okay that he was upset with her and Ruru but, why Amir? The baby's innocent.

Again, she rang the doorbell and another helper answered her. This time, she didn't ask the maid if Robin was home, instead she went straight in. Mariel with a very playful Isabella in her playpen was what welcomed her.

"Kylie, you're here! Isabella say hi to Ate," she said hugging her with one hand and carrying her daughter on the other.

"Hi Tita. Hi baby, did you miss Ate?" she cooed the girl.

"What brought you here?" Mariel asked politely as she made her sit down on the couch.

"Uhm, is Papa here? I wanted to talk to him about something po kase," she replied. Mariel didn't ask any further knowing it was between the father-daughter thing.

"Yes, nandito siya. Oh, here he is. Babe, andito si Kylie," she said as Robin descended from the stairs into the living room.

"Pa," Kylie said to catch his attention. She ran to him to mano, hug and kiss him on the cheek like she used to. What was odd was that he didn't hug her in return.

"Pa, usap tayo. Okay lang po ba?" she asks her father who looked uncomfortable in her presence.

"Pagod ako," he said sounding a little rude to Kylie's ears. Mariel looked at them and smiled apologetically at Kylie, which the latter returned.

As Robin started climbing up the stairs again, Kylie followed him still insisting to talk.

"Pa. Papa, please. Kahit sandali lang," she felt like one of those pathetic reporters who begged to get an interview with her father. Even though she felt this way, she lowered her pride.

"Kylie, ano ba?! Sabi ng pagod ako," he finally replied as they approached the corridor going to the master's bedroom.

"Papa, you were the one who taught me to be brave in all circumstances. So please be brave enough to talk to me now," she says with her eyes already glossy with all the tears she tried so hardly not to shed.

"Hindi ako naduduwag, pagod lang ako."

"Papa, please stop making excuses. I just want to talk," she pleaded.

"Oh sige! Ayaw mo nang magpaligoy-ligoy ako. Ayaw kitang kausapin, masama ang loob ko sayo kaya kung pwede lang umalis ka na," he said breaking her heart.

She didn't know what to do when he turned his back to her again. She did what her instinct told her to do. She hugged him from the back.

"Papa, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Forgive me, Papa, please," she pleaded, tears finally streaming down her face.

"Kylie, matutulog na ako. Bitawan mo na ako," he said stiffly.

"I'm sorry, Papa. I love you," she continued to plead. She didn't know what exactly it was that she was saying sorry for but, it felt like the only right thing she could say.

Even when her father got out of her embrace and got inside his room, she continued crying. She sat on the floor feeling so defeated. She felt so empty. She felt like the nineteen year old Kylie who was purposeless. She felt like the little girl from Australia who strived for her father's attention. She felt like the schoolgirl who consistently was bullied for having a convict as a father. Everything that ever hurt her came rushing back to her but, nothing hurts more than the feeling of letting her father down.

She felt like what she spent her whole life trying so hard not to be. She felt like... a disappointment.

Kylie continued crying on the floor in front of her father's door. That was the situation that Mariel saw her in causing her to rush by her side and comfort her with a warm embrace.

"Tita, I'm such a disappointment. My whole existence is a disappointment," she said leaning into her stepmother's embrace.

Mariel's heart ached for her stepdaughter, "Kylie, don't say that. Hindi yan totoo."

"Tita, tell Papa I'm so so sorry. I really am," she said as she continued to sob.

"I will, darling, I will," Mariel comforted.

And for a while, they just sat like that. Kylie crying her eyeballs out and Mariel whispering comfort to her.

She went home and that night she promised her son, "My love, me and Baba will try our hardest to never make you feel unloved. We will shower you with so much love, you'll never have to feel like Lolo doesn't like you, I promise."
-
But that was long ago, Amir was almost six and a kuya now. Still, Kylie tucked him to bed and read him bedtime stories.

"Mama, why doesn't Lolo Robin love me and Noelle?" he blurts out asking making Kylie stop reading.

"Anak, you know that's not true. Your lolo loves you so much," she said to the young boy.

"No he doesn't. Diba you said if somebody loves you they will hug you and kiss you and talk to you about anything they can think of? Well, Lolo doesn't do any of those," he replied his eyes already brimming with tears.

"Amir, people love in different ways. Maybe that's just his way of loving his grandchildren," she tries explaining. It was happening. This was what she was afraid of. That Amir would grow up and realize his grandfather's different treatment.

"No kaya. He does all those things to Mikaila but, not to me and Noelle. Kawawa naman my sister, Mama," he said as he started crying. Mikaila, her sister's daughter, was receiving a better treatment than them and Amir was old enough to notice it.

"Anak, one day, you'll understand. Lolo loves you and Noelle and Mikaila, it's just that he loves you guys in all different ways."

Later that night, Kylie found Amir sneaking into their room to go to his sister in her co-sleeper. He checked if his parents were awake so, Kylie pretended to be asleep.

"Hi, Noelle," he said touching his sister's arm, "You know, we all love you very very much. I'm sorry that Lolo doesn't love us. But don't worry, if Lolo won't love you, Kuya will love you forever. I promise."

His little speech made Kylie's heart break into a million little pieces.

"My poor babies. I'm sorry you had to be treated like this. It's Mama's fault. I'm so sorry," she thought to herself as Amir left the room.

And again, she shed the tears she thought she no longer had.

------
I just want to clarify, I don't have anything against Robin. I don't know the full story but, the article really did break my heart for our little prince, Alas.
