The Meeting Downstairs
~*Shane's POV*~
I stumble towards the front door once more, I have to greet my guests after all.
"I apologize gentlemen, but my fiancé is having a hard time walking around from her pregnancy." I partially explain with a nod as I follow all three of the men to the front living room.
"It's quite alright Shane." Rupert says in his groggy, annoyed voice. We all take our seats in the living room and I stare at all the men here. Of course, Mr. Garrison sits across from me with his arms crossed. I knew he'd be one of the people snooping, always looking for something to get me out of power. Then, next to him sits Robert, leader of District 6. I don't really know him, but he always chooses the seat next to Garrison. That's why I assume he's here, probably to help him get rid of me. Then there's Rupert who sits next to me, but he's actually a few inches away from me. He's always been classic in the way he does things, strictly business and doesn't care about the politics too much. He's probably just here so that he doesn't miss anything.
"So, what is it that you wanted to speak to me about?" I question, glancing at all the men, trying to make it look casual.
"Well, we will all be leaving tomorrow, and we just wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed our time at the capital." Garrison says a certain tone in his voice that makes me not trust his words.
"Oh, is that so?" I say in a slight curious tone.
"Yes, but I do have a slight concern..." Garrison continues, staring at me intently.
"And what might that be?" I ask as politely as possible.
"We believe that your wedding that is so close, is a fake." Garrison says with a smirk. I try hard to keep a strait face and show no emotion at his accusation. I take in a breath before I respond, probably just to stall for more time.
"What evidence do you have for this? I assure you that is not true, but for some reason I don't think you'll believe just that. So go on, explain your evidence, I'm guessing you have a lot to bring this up." I say with a fiery look in my eye and an intimidating tone in my voice. I doubt he has much on me, we've both been very careful. And even if he has something, he's a fool to bring this up in my own home. Garrison takes in a deep breath and looks around at the other men. Do they really have nothing except his stupid suspicions? Never mind, I have absolutely nothing to worry about.
"It just doesn't seem right, we had never seen her before and then all of a sudden you were engaged? It just doesn't seem right..." Robert states with his brow furrowed.
"So, you're accusing me of having a fake marriage because it doesn't seem right? Well, I hate to say this gentlemen, but it doesn't seem right to have you all accuse me of this without any evidence. I feel rather offended, and this is not the slightest bit true, would you lot like to insult me anymore? Or do you have actual business to discuss?" I question with a fiery look in my eye and an intimidating tone. Now, just to prove that I'm innocent, I'm going to scare them. They deserve to be scared, they just accused me, Shane Lancaster, of something that is false, without any evidence. Garrison takes in a deep breath and glances around at the other men.
"Sorry Shane, I didnt mean to offend you." Robert says in a higher pitched voice than normal. Well, I've already scared him.
"I apologize as well Shane, I didn't actually believe them, I just wanted to see all the rumors end." Rupert says with a nod of his head. He's not scared, although if he didn't believe them, then he has no reason to be. I now place my eyes on Garrison, waiting for his response. He takes in another deep breath and nods.
"Alright. Thank you for the truth Shane, I'm sorry for my false accusations, and I should be going now." He finally says in a shaky tone as he quickly stands from his seat and starts towards the door. Robert is quick to get up and follow him, such a lapdog as a leader. Rupert slowly makes his way to his feet and leaving as well.
Well, wasn't that an interesting meeting... I casually get off my couch and see my front door still wide open. So unorganized. I swing the door closed and lock it as if it was a natural move for me. I suppose that now they're gone I can go get Violet. I walk up my large staircase, it's so intimidating to look at sometimes. It just has so many steps and goes to so many places. However, I have only seem Violet and Mark go up them. There is no business upstairs, I leave all of it downstairs for easy access. There are only bedrooms and bathrooms at the top. I'm guessing that most people who enter know that by now. I walk up the last few steps and knock on Violet's door. I await her response, but don't get one. I open the door, it was unlocked, how interesting. My eyes then see her lying on her bed, sleeping soundly. I let out a sigh, I'll have to cancel our reservation now. What a shame... I could give it to someone else maybe? I don't know who though, I don't know many couples. I'll just cancel it, I can always go there another time. I gently close Violet's door and grab a com at the top of the stairs. I swear, I have these everywhere. I change the channel accordingly and then press the button.
"Hello, this is Shane Lancaster, I have a reservation at your establishment." I say, tightening my tie, just out of habit.
"Oh, hi... Yes, I see that right here. What can I help you with Mr. Lancaster?" A female voice questions me from the other end.
"I would like to cancel it, I don't think we can make it now. Some business has come up, I'm sure you understand." I say casually, letting my eyes go around the staircase and examine every detail in it.
"Oh, of course. Thank you for calling and I'll have it canceled right away." She replies with a spring of happiness in her tone. She's probably just excited that she can talk with me, that's the only bad part of being me; everyone knows you, but you don't know them.
