The Brother He Never Used To Have

"If this guy even knows Ian he must be a phycopath, if he is his brother then he must be even crazier." I say once Amelia has left the room and it's just Shane and I once more.
"We have to talk to him at least, but don't worry, I won't let him near that cell." Shane assures me sternly.
"Okay. I'll let you handle it then." I say as I stand from my chair and walk around so that I stand behind Shane at his seat.
"Thank you, because whoever this man is, I can handle him. And I know you can too, but I can do the subtle approach. So, please, stay there and allow me to deal with him." Shane says in a calmed tone. I nod my head and rest my hands on his shoulders.
"Okay, I'll be acting all wife-like over here then." I chuckle as I start to rub his shoulders gently, careful not to make the massage hurt him.
"Thank you Mrs. Lancaster." Shane chuckles softly.
"You are very welcome Mr. Lancaster, it is my pleasure." I chuckle back as I continue to rub on his shoulders in a relaxed way.
"You play the wife part pretty well you know..." Shane mumbles as his head leans back and his eyes look at me carefully.
"I try." I answer him, moving my hands down his back to get a better grip on his shoulders. Shane reaches his hands up to mine and holds my wrists tightly and he begins massaging me in return.
"Mr. Lancaster, this is Mr. Kyle Myers." Amelia says as she opens the door wide to allow him to enter. He has bright blue eyes and dark hair that resembles Ian's slightly. The man carefully steps towards the desk, fear obvious in him as he walks on shaky legs. He avoids looking up from the floor as he takes a seat across the desk and puts his shaky hands on his lap. Amelia closes the door and Shane let's go of me completely, moving his head so he looks at Kyle. I continue to massage his shoulders, trying to calm any tension he may have when talking to this stranger.
"Hi Kyle, they told me that you wanted to see a prisoner here. Can you tell me why?" Shane questions politely, leaning his lower elbow on the table. Kyle looks up in a skittish manner and nods.
"I need to talk to my brother. I heard that he did some terrible things and I need to know why he did it." Kyle says. His voice is calm and caring for his brother, not like how Ian had spoken to me. Kyle seems much more happy and loving than Ian ever could be.
"How do we know that this Ian really is your brother? A lot of people have the same name and things happen sometimes." Shane explains to him. As I look at Kyle more, I soon realize that he is probably no older than 15, maybe 16 at most. He must have very important things to say if he came down here and wanted to talk with Shane.
"It's him, there was a picture in the paper the other day and it was my brother." Kyle says, his hands rubbing together anxiously in his lap. Shane sighs heavily and leans back into my hands that still rub his shoulders lovingly.
"I can't let you in there on such short notice. Because he is a criminal according to our laws, we need to have lots of paperwork just to get you near his cell. To speak to him... That would take a lot." Shane explains in a very official tone.
"Can you give him a message? Or at least tell me what he did that got him locked up? I read what it said in the paper, but I want to speak with the witnesses if I can't talk to him." Kyle finishes, sounding more confident in his answer now. I stop rubbing Shane's shoulders and put my hands by my side and stare down at him in slight disbelief.
"He kidnapped us and tortured my friends. He starved them and when we finally got them back they had serious injuries and mental trauma. If you want details, just ask." I state in a slight anger. Kyle's eyes light up at my statement, he looks as though what I said was something he'd never heard of before now.
"You're one of the witnesses?" Kyle questions me, going back to his scared tone that he had before.
"Yeah, when I escaped I came here and was still looking for my friends." I say, glancing down at Shane who stares up at me in a protective manner.
"I'm so sorry for anything he did to you or your friends. My brother has a bad anti social disorder and sometimes he does things that he doesn't mean to do." Kyle explains, avoiding to even look at me anymore.
"Like kidnap and torture people? Starve them for weeks and beat them every day? No mental illness gives him an excuse to do that." I respond sternly, resting my hand on Shane's shoulder for a kind of support. My balance hasn't been working with me lately, it feels like I gain weight every day.
"I'm so sorry, but I just want to talk to my brother." Kyle says in a voice that's sounds as if he could burst into tears at any moment.
"You know my opinion, but I'll leave this to you." I whisper to Shane as I begin massaging his shoulders once more to play the part of being his wife again.
"Listen Kyle, I like you as a person, but I can't let you in there no matter how much I wanted to. I can give a message to the guards if you want, but that's the most I can do." Shane says in an apologetic tone. Kyle nods and looks up slightly to face Shane, but not me.
"Okay. Tell him that Carrie is looking for him and that we miss him. So he should change his ways and remember what his doctor told him." Kyle finishes with a tone that only someone who cares could have.
"Alright, I'll try to get that to him, but it depends on the guards of it gets there. But may I ask who Carrie is?" Shane questions curiously.
"Carrie is his girlfriend, well, wife at this point. She doesn't live here though, she is hiding out somewhere far away." Kyle trails off, probably getting lost in his thoughts.
"Well, I'm sure you know that we can let her in and make her a citizen if she wishes. If not, that's fine too. Is there anything else you would like to say before you leave Kyle?" Shane questions him in a kind tone, he's probably seen how nervous this kid gets.
"No, thanks for listening and I really am sorry miss. I hope you both have a lovely afternoon." Kyle says happily as he jumps up from his seat and walks towards the exit.
"Have a good day Kyle, I'll see you around." Shane says as Kyle tugs on the handle and walks outside, waving one last goodbye to us. I look down at Shane and he lays back in his chair to look at me.
"You didn't have to say anything to him, I know that topic is sensitive for you." Shane says in a comforting tone. I nod my head and look down at him.
"Yeah I did have to say something. He wouldn't have known what a monster his brother really is if I hadn't. He needed to see the effects of his brother, even if he didn't want to." I state sternly.
"I guess you're right. It's probably easier to get him out of here sooner and it will make him ask less questions." Shane says with an exhausted sigh.
"Yeah." I respond as I continue to move my fingers in circles around Shane's shoulders to massage him better.
"You should get settled at my house, I only have a few more things to do and then I'm done for today." Shane says as he leans forward and makes me let go of him.
"Okay, I might head back to my old place for a few once I'm done. I need to just check in with the guys and tell them in okay." I explain, slowly making my way towards the other side of his desk.
"Alright, I'll see you then." He says with a smile. I smile back softly and make my way towards the door. "Oh, and Violet, you know that I don't mind if your friends ever need anything from me. They're good people and I'm happy to help them if they ever need me. Also, make sure to let them know that they are welcome in my home if you ever want them over as well." Shane finishes happily as he picks up a stack of papers and hits them on the desk to organize them.
"Thanks, I'll be sure to let them know." I say with a smile. Shane nods and I exit the room and begin making my way towards my new home.
