Public Announcement
"We can not let these walls just get holes, holes that are big enough for those things to get in here. This place is supposed to be safe and it won't be if they get in here! We need to remake that wall Shane, it will make this place a lot safer." The captain of team 3, named Aaron states in a very upset tone.
"Do you even know the resources it took to build the first wall? I can't imagine building it all over again, that could take months, and it would use so much of our supplies." A man who owns a craft store named Harry responds.
"Guys, I agree that we need to patch up parts of the wall, but I don't think we need to rebuild the whole thing. Because as Harry said, it would take a lot of time that we don't have and resources that we can't get easily. We can do patchwork on the wall to fix all the holes and everything will be safer. Okay?" Shane asks, glancing around the table awaiting responses.
"Okay." Aaron responds as he puts his hands on the table and leans on his elbows in a lazy looking way.
"Okay." Harry agrees as he puts his hands together in front of him on the table.
"I'll start construction soon, meeting dismissed." Shane states with his hands motioning for everyone to leave. I turn my head to face him and he rubs his temples with his fingertips in a way that is often used to relieve stress.
"At least they agreed with you." I say, trying to cheer up the mood a little.
"Yeah, that's always good." Shane chuckles in response.
"Anything else you need to do?" I question when he puts his hands back on the table.
"Lots of paperwork, especially because I'm getting married and we need to do an announcement." Shane pauses and looks at me with a grin in his face. "You haven't seen me give a public announcement yet, have you?" Shane asks with his grin only growing by the second.
"Not yet, but something tells me I'm going to pretty soon." I say in a sarcastic-ish tone that shows my joke in a way that I like.
"Oh yeah, they're so fun to do. Let's go schedule it real quick, but... Before that, we don't even have rings yet, do we?" Shane says glancing down at his hand and mine as they sit on the table next to each other.
"You're right,we should probably do that." I respond with a wide smile on my face, I can't help it, I'm excited. After all, this will probably be my only wedding and I've always loved the idea of always wearing your rings just to show loyalty and the love that you both share.
"First, I have to get a few documents for the marriage. It'll be quick though, I promise." Shane says happily as he stands from his seat and my doing the same. He puts out his arm for me like he did before and I grasp onto it. The visual for others really is what will make this work for him. Shane leads me back towards his office and his assistant dashes towards it, opening it for me and Shane to allow our entrance. I smile at her, and she just feads me a confused look in response. I let myself sit in the chair across from Shane like I usually do. His assistant stands in the doorway and her eyes trail around the room in a confused fashion. I suppose that even though I'm not going to marry Jack, I still am going to see him and I'm thankful for that. I never want to hate him, he's just too sweet and kind for that. I'm just glad that Jack is understanding enough so that he wants to still keep a friendship between us. Shane nods and grabs my hand into his, this image really is important to him I guess. Jack follows close behind me and leans close to my ear.
"When was this a thing between you two?" He whispers to me, the quietest he's ever been.
"I'll explain it all later. It's a long story and we don't have time right now." I whisper back to him in the same hushed voice he had used.
"Okay. Just know that I do support your decision, Shane's a good guy." Jack whispers back with a sweet smile on his face that shows his happiness in an extreme way.
"Thank you, Jack. That really means a lot to me." I say, putting a smile on my face for him. Jack's face blushes brightly and his bright smile comes back onto his lips.
"Ready?" Shane questions, stopping suddenly in front of a dark gray curtain. I lightly move part of it and see bright sunlight shining outside. People stand outside cheering and laughing with one another. The sight is pleasant to say the least and I turn my head and nod in response to Shane.
"I can do the talking, but they'll want to hear your voice. They'll also have questions, you don't have to answer any of them if you don't want to." Shane says sweetly in a slightly hushed voice so that people on the outside don't hear.
"I'll talk if you want me to, I'm not shy in front of them." I say, more demanding than I wanted.
"I know, you'll do great and Jack and I are here if you need anything." Shane says, happily smiling at Jack who stands next to me.
"Okay. Let's not stall anymore, come on." I say as I push the curtain out of my way and let myself onto the stage, still holding onto Shane's hand. He waves to everyone happily as both the guys come on stage with me. I wave with a smile, need to make a good impression. Shane grabs the microphone in his other hand once he is done waving. Jack stands close next to me in a shy kind of way. The sight is adorable and it reminds me of his childishness.
"Welcome everyone!" Shane shouts into the mic which makes everyone quiet down pretty quickly.
"I'll make this quick, I know you all have very busy days." Shane says happily. My eyes scan the crowd, searching for any familiar faces. I see Dr. Garret staring at me... Well, my stomach. I decide to move on from him and I see Wade standing tall in the crowd. He smiles at me and waves lightly. I move my hand so it sits next to my thigh and I wave back with a childish smile on my face. Even though I don't hear it, I see Wade giggle lightly at me action. He then mouths "what's going on?" And I just gesture my head towards Shane. Wade nods his head and focuses back on him. I scan the crowd once more and standing right next to Wade makes my face turn pale. Even though I don't see it, I know when my face flushes. Mark stands with his arms crossed and his eyes fixed on me. The areas around his eyes are tinted red and his hair is a mess. He must've been crying not long ago. I hold back tears and I feel my body go numb just seeing him.
"Violet? Violet!" I hear Shane's voice when I hit the ground the was previously below me. Everything around me turns black and I can't move even a little.
The next thing I know is that I'm being shaken by Jack and Shane with worry on their faces. I let my eyelids open slowly and I feel both of them try to help me up. But I decline it and push myself to sit up. Shane hugs me in a worried way and Jack holdd onto my hand, but it's hidden from the audience.
"What happened? Are you okay? Do you need anything?" Shane questions in a hushed voice in to my ear.
"I'm fine. I don't know what happened, I guess I didn't get much sleep last night." I mumble back my lie. I know what happaned. I fainted from the stress of seeing Mark in pain. It's just annoying that it had to happen in from of all these people.
"Heh, here. Let me help you up." Shane says as he basically carries me up to my feet. Jack let's go of my hand and stands up with me, but he keeps his hand on my back for extra support.
"Sorry if I worried anyone. I just didn't get much sleep last night and I got tired." I say into the mic just to calm anyone who might've been worried.
"I guess all this wedding plans brought all that out in you there Violet." Shane chuckles into the mic in a jomng way.
"I guess so." I respond with a small laugh that is forced I don't know how it seemed real to anyone. My eyes go back to the crowd and I avoid Mark and just look at Wade. He has a slightly concerned expression and gestures his head at Mark in a questioning way. All I do is nod my head and then turn my attention back to Shane.
"So, as I was saying, anyone who would like an invitation to the wedding, please tell someone in my office and we will get back to you. We will now take your questions." Shane declares.
"Mr. Lancaster, is the child that your wife is pregnant with yours? And if not, who's is it?" A man questions with a camera poised at us that flashes every few seconds. I guess this is what the media has become and how the newspapers are made these days.
"Is that any of your business?" I question back at him before Shane has a chance to answer.
"It was just a question miss." The reporter responds in a defensive way.
"Well let me ask you this, is I have only been at this compound for about a month, and I'm five months pregnant, do you think that it is even a little possible that this a baby belongs to Shane?" I question in a voice that just is full of sarcasm and annoyance.
"Then who's the real father?" The resporter questions me once more.
"I'm sure you'll find out once they're born." I spit the words in a hushed voice back at him. I then spin away on my heal and walk behind the curtain once more. I stomp down the hallway, not having any clear destination. I hear footsteps follow after me and a hand go onto my shoulder to stop me in my tracks. I turn around, ready to yell, but stop myself once I see that it's Jack.
"Hey, what's up with you?" He questions me in a worried tone.
"I broke up with him last night and now he hates me. He looked like he was crying and was going to hit me if he saw me. He hates me and I don't know how to live with him hating me. Jack, I don't know what to do if he hates me." I say as tears start to gush out of my eyes and I fall into Jack's arms. I sob into his shoulder and hold him close to me, almost digging my fingernails into his back. Jack runs his fingers over my back and through my hair in a comforting way just like he used to.
"He doesn't hate you, he's just mad." Jack says soothingly.
"When he gets mad he scares me and he hit you before. The way he looked at me just now... I've never seen it ever before." I sob between deep breathes coming into my lungs.
"He'll get over it, he won't hurt you, I know that much. The only reason he got me that day was because he thought I was sleeping with his girlfriend. I don't know if he still thinks this or not, but he thought that your kid was mine so he was still pissed because of that." Jack explains with a small giggle. "But what I told him was that if I had rocked your world, he would know. One day you should tell me which one of us is better, preferably when you're single and when you actually have been with both of us in that way." Jack chuckles in my ear.
"Oh my god, half the time you have the mind of a seven year old, but now I think you're eleven or twelve. Because no little kid has fantasies like you." I chuckle back to him as I wipe a few of my tears on his shoulder.
"Hey, a guy's gotta dream sometimes. How else am I going to really be with you?" Jack asks, just barely moving where his hand lie on my back so I now look at his face.
"I already said I was sorry, I don't know what else you want me to say." I mumble in a slightly annoyed tone.
"I do." Jack says without any hesitation.
"You do what?" I question in confusion.
"I do, those are the only words I ever wanted to hear. With you in a wedding dress and me in a tux. To kiss your lips and in that moment... I would realize that you and me really were together forever... The only place I can get that in my dreams, so that's what I see every time I close my eyes. You told me that you loved me, well if you really did, that wouldn't just be a dream." Jack says as a tear starts to roll from his eye. "I really do love you Violet, remember that if you ever need me, or this marriage doesn't work out for you." Jack finsihes as he wipes the tear his face and let's go of me entirely. "See you later." He says into my ear as he walks away from me and down the hallway towards the exit.
"I told you my reasons Jack!" I shout at him.
"And I respect that, but I have my reasons too. I'll see you later, you know where to find me if you need me." Jack responds and then his footsteps continue until they fade completely from the room.
