Chapter Twenty
KAREEM'S POV
Since Diana had proposed going to Mombasa with me it took a lot longer to plan a trip for two. I was elated to be taking her with me, I just hoped she would have fun since I was going for business and not pleasure. A shipment of three cars had been ordered from Germany about a month ago. It was was at the port already but the truck driver supposed to deliver it to Nairobi had for some reason gone missing. He'd missed his pick up date thus causing an issue with the port authority. Vihaan was already angry thus why I was personally going to resolve the issue instead of sending someone else.
We'd given the weekend getaway to Salome and her husband Ashton. I had been disappointed that Diana and I couldn't go together but I'd use the time we'd spend at the coast to make up for it.
"I'm almost there, are you ready yet?"I asked Diana over the phone.
"Yeah I'm just leaving my apartment."She replied.
"Okay see you soon."I said cutting the call.
I couldn't use my car since the drive to and from Mombasa was very long so we were using the train to get there and would come back by bus. If I had been going alone I would have flown but Diana wanted the whole road trip experience thus why we were using public transport.
The uber taking us to the train station stopped in front of Diana's apartment and like she'd said she would be she was standing there was a backpack and a suitcase next to her. I got out to hug her as the driver put her suitcase in the trunk.
"Are you ready for this?"I asked opening the backdoor for her.
"Ready as I'll ever be."Diana replied with a smile.
I took my time to admire Diana and her outfit of choice. She was wearing black leggings, a black hoodie, a black leather jacket and white sneakers. Her hair was done in simple corn rows and she didn't have any make up on. She was simply gorgeous.
I was dressed in all black too and simple enough for travel. I was wearing dark jeans, a black T-shirt, a long black trenchcoat and black boots.
"How did shopping with Salome go yesterday?"I asked just to make small talk.
Diana had to go shopping with Salome since she didn't have road trip worthy clothes, her words not mine.
"Good, I got everything I wanted but I could have done without her lamenting that I was leaving her alone for two weeks. She has a husband and a child for crying out loud, how could I be abandoning her?"Diana expressed making me laugh.
"You two are extremely close."I offered.
"Well yeah but I didn't cry when she and Ashton had to go for a three week honeymoon or when she stayed at home for two months after giving birth to Oliver."Diana reasoned.
"You're different people, let her be."
"And you are supposed to be on my side."Diana insisted.
"You're right cupcake, I'm sorry."I apologized kissing her temple.
"Since when am I cupcake?"Diana asked with a smile.
I hadn't even realized that I'd called her that but it felt right so I didn't question it.
"Since you tasted delicious like one."I replied kissing her lips quickly.
Diana laughed and hit my arm lightly but didn't say anything more. She leaned into my side and we sat in silence for the thirty minute drive to the train station. When we got there I paid the uber before Diana and I alighted.
"Did you already get tickets?"Diana asked me.
"Yeah, first class, courtesy of Vihaan."I replied.
"That's nice of him, are you disappointed that you're using the train instead of flying?"Diana inquired.
"Not at all, I'm actually elated to be sharing this experience with you."I confessed.
"Perfect, I'm happy too."Diana admitted with a smile.
I kissed her forehead before taking her free hand and leading her to the terminals. We were early enough so it was easy to find our train and be led to our seats by the very helpful staff. Our suitcases were put away for us and we'd get it when we got off the train in Mombasa.
"Do you want the window or the aisle seat?"I asked Diana before we sat down.
"Window please."She replied taking her seat.
I sat next to here after taking off my coat setting my backpack next to Diana's on the floor for the time being.
"Wow, these seats are very comfy, definitely worth the extra cash paid."Diana commented relaxing into her seat.
"Yeah I approve, the leg room I'm getting is actually enough for once."I agreed with her stretching my legs.
I hated using public transport because my height made me very uncomfortable in the tiny seating spaces. The train gave me enough leg room to stretch my legs all the way.
"It'll be approximately a five hour ride so buckle up."I informed Diana.
"I was hoping for longer but that's okay too."Diana replied.
The train embarked at nine am which meant that we would arrive in Mombasa at before two pm.
Diana was excited for the train ride and I was happy to have her by my side during the journey. A flash of light caught me by surprise and I turned to face Diana who was looking at me with a guilty expression on her face. She was holding a camera in her hand which explained the flash.
"Sorry I forgot the flash was on. You just looked so handsome bathed in the morning light, I had to take a photo."She apologized.
"Well when you put it that way how can I be mad at you."I replied. "When did you get a camera?"
"I bought it when Oliver was born, he looked so cute I used to take pictures of him all the time. My phone camera was terrible so I bought this one." Diana explained.
"Let's make sure we put it to good use then."I said taking it away from her.
It took a few minutes for me to figure how it worked but once I did, I started snapping away at the gorgeous lady by my side.
"Okay enough, we don't want to fill the card with only pictures of me."Diana scolded.
"That wouldn't be so bad but you're right, there will be a lot more to observe."I concurred reaching into my pocket for my phone.
I sent a few messages as we waited for the train to depart while Diana went through the photos I'd taken deciding which ones to keep and deleting the terrible ones.
A few minutes to 9am there was an announcement declaring the departure of the train.
"This is so exciting."Diana whisper yelled next to me making me smile.
She was so happy it was hard not to smile at how adorable she looked.
"You've never been on a train to Mombasa before?"I asked her.
"Nope, I mean I've been there by bus and I've flown there too a couple of times but this is my first time using the train."She answered.
"Well then I'm happy to be sharing this experience with you."I said because the moment had become that more special with her confession.
"Thank you."Diana whispered next to me.
"For what?"
"Agreeing to take me with you, I can't wait to share this experience with you."Diana explained.
"It's a pleasure to have you here. I hope this is the first of the many road trips in our future."I replied kissing her temple.
I don't think Diana had an idea of how happy she made me. She had been an unexpected surprise when I walked into her book cafe that first time. Even though she had played hard to get at first as the days progressed she came to mean more to me than I ever thought possible. I really liked her and the idea of me falling in love with her wasn't so far fetched. I'd have to make her my girlfriend first because Diana deserved the decency of being in a stable meaningful relationship. She actually deserved it all and if she allowed me, I'd try my best to give her the world.
"I made us a travel playlist."Diana announced handing me an airpod.
"Really? But we have different tastes in music."I asked.
"Just put it on, you'll like what I made."Diana replied.
I didn't argue just did as she asked and put on the airpod. She pressed play on her phone and G-eazy blasted in my ear taking me by surprise. He was one of my favorite artists.
"Not what you expected huh?"Diana teased nudging my shoulder.
"Definitely not, who else do you have on that playlist?"I inquired.
"Everyone worth listening to, so sit back relax and enjoy."Diana replied before lifting up the camera and taking a shot of my shocked face.
Diana amazed me at every turn and I embraced that with open arms. She was the fresh breath of air I'd been looking for and I would hold onto her for as long as she would allow me.
Travelling with Diana was actually much more fun than I thought it would be. We talked, ate, listened to music, took goofy photos of each other and even napped for about an hour. The journey had us passing through a lot of wild life and Diana was so excited she ended up filling the camera with pictures of all the animals we saw.
"Salome is gonna be so jealous of these, remind me to send her a few when we arrive."Diana commented looking at the pictures she had taken.
"I will."I replied enjoying watching her excited face.
We arrived too soon according to Diana but she had the whole trip back to look forward to. We collected our suitcases on the way out and found one of the many taxis parked at the terminal to drive us to the hotel I'd booked near Kilindini harbor.
"Before we get to the hotel, how pissed would you be if I told you that I only booked one room?"I asked Diana as we sat in the back seat of the taxi.
Diana turned to look at me with a thoughtful expression on her face.
"Do you want me to be mad at you?"She retorted.
"No."
"Then I'm not mad."She replied simply.
"Really? Just like that?"I asked shocked.
"Yeah really just like that, I hope it's a big bed though because I like my space when I'm sleeping."She answered.
I just sat there gaping at Diana surprised at how easy she had been to convince. I'd actually requested for two rooms but told the hotel that I'd probably be using one but to keep one in reserve just incase. I wanted to maximize my experience with Diana at the coast thus why I was ready to convince her to share a room with me. I didn't have sex in mind or anything dirty like that but I wanted to spend more time with her and sleeping in separate rooms didn't appeal to me. Of course if she had refused I'd have let it go but the fact was that she has said yes and I was maximizing on that.
The ride to the hotel took about half an hour which allowed us the chance to enjoy quite the view. Mombasa was one of the oldest town's in Kenya so as much it didn't have many fancy modern buildings, the old ones that were there had a lot of history to them. It was a beautiful town and I couldn't wait to tour it all with Diana. The traffic was also light since the most common mode of transportation were tuktuks.
When we got to the hotel I paid the taxi before Diana and I got out with our luggage.
"Fancy, did Vihaan pay for this too?"Diana asked looking around the pristine hotel.
"No, this is actually all me."I replied leading her inside to the reception.
"Kareem this is expensive!"Diana exclaimed.
"Don't worry cupcake, I can afford it."I assured her.
Before Diana could argue with me any further I shut her up with a quick kiss before facing the receptionist. After confirming my identity and getting us signed in, I was handed a key for the room we were staying in. The elevator took us to the top and sixth floor where our room was.
"It better not be the honeymoon suite."Diana commented making me laugh.
"Cupcake believe me, this is the last place I'd think of bringing you for our honeymoon."I replied.
"That's is... That's not what I meant."Diana stuttered looking flustered.
"I know, I was just teasing you and its not the honeymoon suite, that was already booked."I said with a wink opening the door.
Diana hit me with her hand making me laugh harder.
"You're the worst."She scolded with an eye roll.
"But you like me anyway so the jokes on you."I said with a smile.
"Wow this is actually very nice, how much is this costing you?"Diana asked looking around the room.
"I am not answering that, just enjoy me spoiling you for the next few days."I replied earning me an eye roll but thankfully she didn't ask any more questions.
The room was actually nice with an all white theme, king size bed, floor to ceiling windows opening up to a balcony with a view of the beach and our own personal bathroom with a bathtub. The hotel had its own pool but there was access to the beach and one could see the port some distance away.
"This is awesome, we never have to leave this room and I'll be happy."Diana commented as she leaned over the balcony railing.
"Im happy you approve."I replied standing behind her so she was trapped between me and the guard rail.
Diana leaned back against my chest and put her hands on my arms.
"Do you have anywhere to be this afternoon?"Diana asked as we enjoyed the view.
"No, all business starts tomorrow. I thought today we'd just relax here at the hotel and from tomorrow we can do anything you want to do when I'm not working."I replied.
"I like the sound of that."Diana concurred.
"Perfect."I said looking at both the view and the woman in my arms.
"As much as I enjoyed that train ride, I need a shower so why don't I do that while you order us some food."Diana requested turning around in my arms.
"What do you want to eat?"I asked her.
"I'm away from Salome what do you think?"Diana retorted.
"I'm on it."I replied knowing exactly what she meant.
"Great." Diana cheered.
She pecked my lips before ducking under my arm and walking back into the room. After grabbing all that she would need for the shower Diana disappeared into the bathroom. I ordered the greasiest thing the hotel had on the menu before proceeding to make a few phone calls while I waited.
Diana came out of the bathroom before the food arrived looking adorable in a blue spaghetti strapped romper with lace trimmings at the bottom. She had no bra on and I could see the outline of her nipples on the thin cloth kicking all thought I had of keeping the trip pg out the window. Diana was a temptress without even trying. Before I could act on my lust I grabbed all the stuff I'd laid out for the shower and rushed to the bathroom. A cold shower would have to do to calm me down.
I emerged twenty minutes later dressed in a pair of shorts and a tank top. Diana was already digging into the barbecue chicken and rice I'd ordered.
"Sorry I couldn't wait, it looked too good to resist."Diana apologized.
"It's okay cupcake, eat to your fill."I replied joining her on the balcony.
We ate in silence except for small talk here and there. After we were done the dishes were collected and Diana and I watched a movie since we didn't feel like leaving the room. We ended up falling asleep and waking up again at eight pm to have supper. We had it at the hotels restaurant before taking a walk around the hotel grounds.
Diana and I got back to the room past ten pm where we passed out on the bed even though we had already slept the afternoon away. So far so good and I couldn't wait for the rest of the days to unfold.
