Chapter Twenty-Three

I wake in the morning with a strong, warm arm wrapped around my body. I sigh. Niamh won't be happy with me, I've only made this more
complicated.

Rolling over, I look at Ollie's beautiful face, his breathing is tempered, a tiny bit of drool leaking from his open mouth. Even so, I'd happily lay here and watch him all day.

I can't work out if I'm being too dramatic about his marriage or not dramatic enough. He didn't tell me, but he also hasn't seen her for five years.

Why would he tell me a week into our relationship? How do you even explain that without sounding insane, knowing you've got a a wedding to get through together?

I think I understand why he didn't mention it. If it were Paddy and I, I'm not sure I'd tell him either.

When I was with Paddy I was never one to think that there'd be something in a kiss, something to indicate another person as more.

But the kiss last night was like nothing I've ever known, it means something, it must do. There's more do it then just lips touching, a deep fusion connecting us together, saying all the things we can't with words.

Ollie poured himself into that kiss like a man in love. Truthfully, I don't have any doubts that Ollie's feelings mirror my own. It's all over him the same way it's all over me. Maybe if I'd never been with Paddy, Ollie's marriage wouldn't matter.

But I cannot rewrite history as much as I might want to. Paddy did happen, he did cheat on me. Ollie's marriage also happened, he is still legally married. He chose to keep it from me, and she chose to show up at my best friends wedding.

Ollie stirring brings me back to the now. I don't deserve the smile he gives me when he opens his eyes and sees me laying across from him.

"You're still here." He says, with childlike wonder, as if me simply being here has made his dreams come true.

My heart feels like it shatters in my chest.

"Of course I am."

"You didn't speak to me over dinner," His voice is raspy and it's so sexy. "I thought you'd do a runner."

"That's hardly fair."

"Me being married, pursing you, and not telling you about my wife is hardly fair."

"I've been thinking about that."

He looks wary. "You have?"

"Yeah. Mainly, how do we get rid of Molly? If you don't want her around-"

"I don't."

"- And you haven't seen her for five years and you've tried to divorce her, what do you do from here?"

He shrugs, "Murder?"

I jokingly ponder it. "I could ram her with my car. Cite a fit of jealous rage. Of course, it means prison for the rest of my life."

"But hey, at least I'll be free."

I playfully slap his shoulder, we laugh and sober as we look at one another.

I let my hand trail across his arm. "No, seriously, how do we get rid of her?"

He shrugs. "Just pretend she doesn't exist?"

"Highly unlikely."

"I honestly don't know," Ollie sighs. "I've filed for divorce, applied for a deemed service, had someone spend a year tracking her down to personally deliver her divorce papers. I even petitioned in court for it to go on record that I served the papers to her mother, and then applied for a dispensed service twice, which was denied."

"Wow." I say, though I don't know what half of whatever he said means.

"It's like she's got the court system wrapped around her finger or something. It's also hard to divorce someone no one can find, especially if there's traces of them being very much alive."

"Surely if you haven't seen someone for five years and want a divorce, your marriage is null anyway?"

"You would think." He grumbles. "She's got
loads of money though, the kind of money that means she can make any problem vanish."

"That sounds like something from a mafia film." Suddenly, I'm a little bit scared. "Wait. What if she thinks I'm a problem? Will she just make me 'go away'?"

"She's more likely to use you as a threat to torture me."

"Christ. What did you ever see in her?"

"She was sweet and charming at first, waited until I was firmly in her grips and then revealed her true self. It was hell."

"I'm sorry you're having to go through this, and I'm sorry if I made it more difficult."

Ollie props himself up on an elbow so he can get a better look at me, "Nothing in my life has been as scary as watching you walk out that door yesterday. You had every right to walk out, but you took my heart straight from my chest and dragged it with you."

"Ollie," I murmur, his words sinking into me like honey.

"I'm yours, Sinead. Even if you don't want me."

"I want you." I admit, and there's a relief at saying so. "I just don't want you to be married anymore."

His smile is so huge and beautiful I wish I could live with it forever. "You want me?"

"Of course I do, you eejit. Look at you."

"Come here." He growls, before pouncing on me and covering my body with his, showering me with kisses. He leans above me and looks down. "Are you sure? She might make both our lives hell."

I laugh, "Maybe we should pair her with Paddy so they can ruin each other."

"That's not a bad idea, actually. She'll need a new victim to leech off of."

"Come on, you're a fancy-schmancy lawyer. There must be a way we can get rid?"

He rolls onto his back. "Maybe?"

We stay in bed all morning, brainstorming what we can do to ensure he's free from
the clutches of Molly forever. It's surreal but comforting. Like coming home after a long trip, everything feels a little bit out of place but somehow right.

I have no doubt that by Ollie's side is where I'm meant to be, it's also where I want to be. It can't be right that he's been unable to divorce her and there must be something we can do about it.

"We should probably head back." I tell him.

"No way." He says, "Let's stay here for the day, just you and me. We can get back to wedding duties later."

"Everyone will be worried about us."

"No they won't." Ollie says, clearly underestimating the panic my mother can whip up. "We don't need to rush back there, I want more time with you."

How's a girl supposed to say no to that? I grin at him, "Okay."
