9 ~ fairy godmother?
'Why are you crying?' The old woman asked when you stepped outside.
'Oh, it’s nothing.' You spoke while handing her the bowl of milk.
'Nothing? Nothing.' She said. 'What of the bowl of milk? Nothing. But kindness makes it everything.'
You watched the old woman gulps down the milk and then laugh after she burped.
'Now, I don’t mean to hurry you but you really haven’t got long, Y/N.'
You stared at her in confusion. You helped her out of the kindness of your own heart but had no idea who she could possibly be.
'How do you know me? Who are you?'
The woman let out a small chuckle and started walking around the wall. You were hesitant to trust her and kept your eyes on her. Making sure she wasn't some crazy lunatic.
'Who am I? I should think you’d have worked that one out.'
You look at her in confusion. You really hadn't worked it out.
'I’m your Hairy Dogfather. I mean, Fairy Godmother!'
You couldn't help but laugh at first.. until her serious expression didn't seem to change. You smile quickly faded and you just look sceptical.
'You can’t be.'
This was impossible. Yes your mother had told you about them, ever since you were little, but when you grew up you just thought it was a way of making you feel better and deal with her loss.
'Why not?'
'They don’t exist. They’re just made up for children.' You pointed out.
She headed onto you lawn and stopped in her tracks. She turned to you with a puzzled look.
'Didn’t your own mother believe in them? Don’t say no because I heard her.'
'You heard her?' You asked.
You were frozen in place, watching this weird mental lady saying all this nonsense. You didn't dare to move.
'Oh, fiddle-faddle, fiddle-faddle.' She sighed. 'Right, first thing’s first. Let me slip into something more comfortable.'
Before you knew it, her stick flew into the air. A big cloud of dust and sprinkles washed over her as the stick turned it a glass wand and she slowly showed herself.
She was, in fact, performing magic right infront of you. You didn't even that was an actual thing?
You fairy Godmother look nice. She had short blonde hair and a nice outfit. She could even float. She was a little older but not as ancient as the woman she pretended to be.
'Oh, that’s better.' She smiled while dusting off her dress.
All you could do was stare as your brain tried to process what just happened.
'Don't look so surprised. I'll let you in on a little secret.. even our royals practise magic. That's why they protect our kingdom. Some are fairy godmothers like me.. some really had to go through it back in the day with hogwarts and everything. Lord voldemort. Hiding and all. I don't think their son is interested in all the power and money like his parents but they've done more questionable stuff in the past, so who knows.'
'Hog-what? Lord who? What's are you talking about? The Prince is a wizard?'
'Dont worry about it, now where was I?'
'But.. How did you…?'
She looked around your yard with a frown. What was she looking for? Your head couldn't wrap around what was happening.
'Oh, yes. Let’s see. What we need is something that sort of says “coach.”'
You found yourself helping her look. Your eyes gazed through the yard. Past the greenhouse with your crops and to all your animal friends that were staring at the scene.
'Um…oh, that trough.' You said while pointing at it.
'Doesn’t really say “coach.” No, no, no. I’m liking fruit and veg.' She marched over to your vegetable garden. 'Do you grow watermelons?'
'No.'
'Cantaloupe?'
'I don’t even know what that is.'
'Artichoke?'
You just shook your head.
'Kumquat?'
You shook your head again. Maybe this would go faster if you told her what you dis grow?
'Beef tomato?'
'We do have pumpkins.' You interrupted her.
'Ah.'
You guided her to the greenhouse where you grew you pumpkins. While you were walking you couldn't help but look at her in disbelieve.
'Pumpkin. This will be a first for me. Always interesting. I don’t usually work with squashes, too mushy.'
You took her into the greenhouse and smiled while proudly pointing at your pumpkins. You loved caring for them.
'Let me see.' She spoke while dragging her eyes past every pumpkin.
You had no clue why she needed this pumpkin. For a potion maybe? Would the price be able to make potions? No way. Why didn't anyone knew they could perform magic?
'Ah, that’ll do. Yes. Knife!' She squealed while looking at one of your bigger pumpkins.
You grabbed your garden knife and handed it to her.
'Thank you, darling.'
She pushed her wand into your hands. You held onto it for your dear life, a little starled that she threw it at you like that.
'Hello, my strangely orange vegetable friend. A quick snip for you.' She smiled as she cut the root of the pumpkin.
She picked it up but almost dropped it. Your heart sank.
' Ah, lovely. Oh, ooh! Heavy pumpkin!'
Your little mice friends stared up at you. Wondering what you were doing. Clearly your fairy Godmother hadn't seen them before.
'Watch out, mice!' She yelled as you dropped the pumpkin on the floor.
That was a perfectly ripe, good pumpkin. She just ruined your pride and joy.
'Ah. Oh, well. Never mind. Let’s do it here."
'Do what here?' You asked.
She grabbed her wand from you and grinned.
'Turn the pumpkin into carriage.'
What? No way she would be able to do that. Turn a pumpkin into a carriage? You watched as she turned to your pumpkins and got ready.
'You’re making me nervous, actually.' She said.
'Shall I shut my eyes?' You asked, in an attempt to help.
'It might be better.' She agreed.
You said down on a ledge and covered your eyes. Spacing out your fingers out of curiosity. You could definitely peek.
'Oh, for heaven’s sake, let’s just go for it!'
She waved her wand and at first nothing happened. That was until the pumpkin started to shake. You dropped your hands and stared at it.
'Ah. Well something’s definitely happening. You see the trick is…'
She sat down next to you. You looked at her in anticipation. Was she going to teach you magic?
'Actually, I’ve forgotten what the trick is. Hmm.'
You watched the pumpkin grow a bit. Suddenly a feeling of dread crossed you. You were inside.. your greenhouse.. your glass... beautiful... greenhouse.
'I just…just thought, if it does get much bigger…?'
'Yes? Hang on.'
Suddenly the pumpkin grew even bigger. Squashing you and her against the glass windows.
'Is that what you meant to do?' You groaned.
Fairy Godmother pulled you out of the tight spot.
'Run! Run, darling!' She yelled.
You started running out of the greenhouse as fast as you could. You rushed towards the bushes to take cover. Before you knew it the pumpkin destroyed your greenhouse. You couldn't grieve for long, because you were amazed by what it turned into.. a beautiful golden carriage.. She did it.
