16 ~ It fits me!

Your evil stepmother gifted the the remainders of your glass slipper to the grand Duke, in exchange for a wealthy marriage for her daughters.

Draco looked up from his work as the grand Duke walked towards him, showing him to pieces of the slipper.

'Where?' He asked.

'Abandoned on the side of the road.' The grand Duke lied.

'And have you found her?' Draco asked, his voice filled with hope.

'The girl? No, she’s disappeared.'

The smile on Draco's face faded. He frowned as he tried to figure out where you could've gone.

'There must be some reason she vanished. Perhaps she has been prevented from speaking.' He said.

The captain, who had walked into the room, watched the scene unfold.

'Do not lose heart yet.' He commented.

'On the contrary, lose heart and gain wisdom.' The Duke smiled. 'The people need to know that the kingdom is secure, that the king has a queen and that the land may have an heir. They want to face the future with certainty.'

'Agreed, then let us be certain!' Draco exclaimed. 'I am king, I say we shall seek out the mystery princess! Even if she does not want to be found, I have to see her again.'

'But if she’s not found, then for the good of the kingdom, you must marry the Princess Chelina, for the good of the kingdom.'

Little did Draco know that this was the plan of the Duke and your stepmother. He would never be able to find you, locked up in that basement. Draco would have to marry her.

Draco sat down on his thrown and stared at the broken pieces of glass. He sighed.

'Very well. Agreed.'

'But, your highness?' The captain asked.

Draco looked at him, his eyes filled with determination. He was going to do what ever he could to find you.

'But you will spare no effort.'

'Your Majesty, of course. You have my word.'

The Grand Duke was true to his word. He spared no effort to demonstrate to the Prince that the mystery princess was not to be found.

It started with a line in town, thebstreets filled with all female inhabitants of the kingdom, but non of which would be able to put on your slipper. The magical slipper refused to fit even the most eligible of maidens.

The captain started to feel bad for Draco. He really wanted you to be found.

'The only thing we can do, your highness.. is try to go out of the city to the farm lands. See if one of the farmers daughters could be her.' The captain suggested.

'Not with the price. It's too dangerous!' The Duke exclaimed. 'We will make the travel without him.'

And that was exactly what they did. The King guard travelled through the farmland. They passed every shop, farm and cottage. The Duke grew a little more anxious as they came closer to your house.

Your stepsisters were overjoyed with the arrival of the King. They saw this as their opportunity to wed him, knowing very well they could never and would never be his mystery princess.

'Horses! Horses!' Anastasia yelled.

'Mother, it’s our chance!' Drisella said while joining her sister.

They rushed towards the window and watched the kings guards stop at their house.

'Let them in!' Drisella yelled at her mother.

Your stepmother opened the door. She was fully confident that the Duke had taken care of everything. You would never be found. You were safely locked up and no one would be going up in the

'Gentlemen! What a wonderful surprise.'

She acted surprised to see them, but already knew of the Duke's plans.

'A moment of your time, good lady.' The Duke said politely.

'Of course, Your Grace. Please. This way.'

She let them into the living room where her daughters were sitting on the couch. They had already taken off their shoes and watched the Duke and the Captain come in. The captain kneeled down infront of Drisella and offered her the shoe.

Drisella tried to fit her foot in there but it seemed to be too small. She pushed her foot as hard as she could, wiggling it around, trying to make it fit.

'It’s shrunk.' Drisella pouted.

'Try again.' The Duke insisted.

Drisella grabbed the captains shoulders and tried to push her foot in as hard as she could, nearly falling off the couch.

'Oh, enough!' Anastasia yelled.

She pushed Drisella out of the way. The captain offered her the shoe. She slipped her foot in but it still wouldn't fit. Too big again.

'It fits me!' She lied.

"Bad luck, miss.'

You didn't hear the commotion going on downstairs. You had been locked up in the attic, bored out of your mind. You couldn't see who was there out of your window. Who ever it was.. they wouldn't be there for you, surely.

The fresh air in that tiny space was nice. All you had was your journal and your mice friends.

The mice, however, had peaked and knew exactly what was going on. They were dancing at your feet, trying to get your attention.

'Gus Gus, Jacqueline, stop it!' You yelled.

Though you were sad, your spirit was not broken. You knew that the ball, and your time with the prince, would become beautiful, distant memories, like those of your father and mother, and your golden childhood.

Thinking about your parents and the dance.. before you knew it you started to sing. A song from your childhood. A song that gave your happy memories. You sat down in the window sill as you pictures your parents and continued the song..
