14 ~ the mystery princess
'Hurry! Hurry, please, Mr. Goose!' You yelled as you sat down in the carriage.
The coachman hurried off. You watched one more time as Draco picked up your glass slipper.
'Captain, my horse.' He said right away.
'No, this may be some trick to lure you from the palace. Your father needs you here.' The grand Duke responded before walking back inside.
The captain doubted for a moment. He really wanted to get that horse for him.
'Captain!' The grand Duke spoke.
'I was having a fine old time. You had to go and choose that one, didn’t you?' He sighed at Draco.
Draco smiled as he looked at the glass slipper. He looked off in the distance. Your carriage had fully disappeared.
'Yes, I did.'
Draco watched at the grand Duke and he Captain got their horses ready to follow you. Maybe he could finally figure out who you were.
In the meantime you were barely staying on the road. You had almost tumbled of a cliff a couple times.
'Oh goodness!' You exclaimed as you almost fell again.
'You there! Stop in the name of the King!' You heard behind you.
Such bad timing this was. Especially sinds the lizard footmen were already growing their tails. The lizard footmen managed to use his tail to pull down the iron fence gate to stop the people chasing you.
'Get this thing open!' You heard in the distance.
The clock stroke midnight one last time. You felt your carriage transforming back so quickly jumped out. You watched yourself as your dress started to turn back to your mother's old dress. The lizards, goose and mice turned back. You got up and took of your remaining glass slipper.
You lowered your slipper so the mice could sit inside. They had done enough.
'You’ll find it’s very comfortable.' You smiled at them.
You slowly felt raindrops touch your skin. It was as if the world confirmed that this all wasn't just a dream. The image of Draco's beautiful eyes, his smile and his gorgeous hair were engraved in your brain. You met your soulmate.
For the first time since you fathers death you actually felt a real sense of happiness. You wished you could've told him, thanked him.. showed him who you were.
As you closed the back door of your house you heard the front door open. Your stepfamily must be back. You quickly hid your glass slipper.
'Cinderella!' Lady Tremaine yelled.
'Cinderella!' Anastasia followed.
You followed the agonising sound of their voices.. but tonight you weren't bothered. Not by the nickname. Not by their treatment. You just had the best night.
'Wake up, lazy bones!' Drisella screamed.
You walked into the kitchen where you found them.
'Tea and a plate of biscuits.' Drisella demanded.
You could help but smile. You tried to hide it so they wouldn't be suspicious of you but you just couldn't.
'Welcome back!'
The two girls looked at you in disgust.
'You look cheerful!' Anastasia pointed out. 'And wet.'
You grabbed your apron and put it on.
'Oh, I took a walk in the rain to cheer myself up.' You lied.
'Typical.' Drisella sighed.
'Tea.' You reminded yourself.
You started filling the kettle with water. Stop smiling.. stop smiling. For the love of gosh stop smiling. You poured them some tea and grabbed their biscuits and put it down on the table.
'We did not communicate through mere words, our souls met.' Drisella smiled at you, trying to brag.
You had to hide your smile again as you found this very amusing. You knew for a fact this wasn't true. He was with you.. all night.
'Precisely my soul and the Prince’s soul.' Anastasia butted in. 'Your soul was over by the banquet tables.' She sneered at her sister.
The disappointment on your stepmothers face, gave you an even bigger joy.
'You didn’t see him dance with me.' Drisella huffed.
You had to hold back a snort as you watched the scene unfold.
'Dance with you? He didn’t even speak to you.' Lady Tremaine sighed.
'It was not our fault, mother. It was that girl!' Anastasia tried to defend herself against her mothers disappointment.
'The mystery princess.' Drisella pouted.
Mystery princess.. you wished you were a princess. You really wished. Then you could've been honest to Draco.
'Mystery princess? Why, what a charming notion.' You said.
'Oh, she was no princess. She was a preening interloper who made a spectacle of herself.' Lady Tremaine sighed but you could see the jealousy in her face.
'Oh?' You said, trying to sound interested.
You were curious what she had to say about this.. although it probably wasn't anything nice.
'A vulgar young hussy marched into the ball, unaccompanied if you will, and to the horror of everyone threw herself at the Prince.'
You turned around to get them some more tea but felt yourself sway a little. Remembering the dance.. that magical dance.
'And he actually danced with the ugly thing.' Anastasia spoke while you poured her tea.
'Yes?' You asked while putting the kettle back.
'Yes.' Drisella said.
You felt Lady Tremaine's eyes on you. Was she getting suspicious?
'It was pity. He was too polite to send her packing in front of everyone, you see. But not wanting to expose us to the presumptuous wench any further, he took her apart.' Drisella continued.
'And told her off. But she refused to leave and the palace guards chased her from the party!' Anastasia laughed.
You had to hold back what you wanted to say. You for sure weren't chased away.
'I pity the Prince, such bad taste.' Lady Tremaine said.
'They belong with each other.' Drisella spoke.
'Well, it’s no matter, girls. The ball was a mere diversion. The Prince is not free to marry for love, he’s promised to the Princess Chelina of Zaragosa. Grand Duke told me himself.'
What? She wss lying.. right. Why did the Grand Duke even speak to her? Did they know each other?
'It’s so very unfair!' Anastesia shouted.
'Yes. The way of the world.' Lady Tremaine sighed.
You took of your apron and quietly left the room. You rushed towards the slipper you hid and grabbed it. You rushed upstairs to the attic and closed the door.
In the middle of the room you pulled up a floorboard. You had hidden stuff of your parents under there. You placed the slipper with the other stuff. The mice crawled out and looked at you.
'Thank you for your help. It really was like a dream. Better than a dream.' You smiled.
You grabbed your journal and started writing.
