Twenty-eight: Pain & Grief
Piercing pain.
Agony.
It feels as though someone just shoved their hand into my chest cavity and ripped my bleeding heart out.
"Why? Why? How could you? She trusted you!!! You will suffer.... I will make you wish you were never born!" I snarl at Lyla. Her cold hard eyes are fixed on Samantha's lifeless body on the floor.
An evil grin spreads across her face as she callously stares back at me. "It's simple really..my dear Jacob. She was in my way and I had to take her out of the picture."
"That makes no sense. Why tell her about all this, if you were just planning on killing her all along...." Nadine asks with tears streaming down her face.
"What none of you know is that I have a daughter. Her name is Celine. She was just a babe when the vampires took her from me. I told Samantha the truth in hopes that she would rise up and finally defeat them and get my baby back. She will be 12 years old this December. 12 years!! Do you understand the agony and pain it is to be torn from your own offspring. Of course not!" She scoffs. "Before Samantha could ignite the powers within her, the vampires came to me with a offer I could not refuse. Kill the future fae queen and get my daughter back with no harm done to her. If I refused they would send pieces of her body to me. I had to!! I did what was necessary to get my child back!!" A sadistic laugh leaves her mouth.
"I should...." but before I can say anymore she and the vampires disappear into thin air. "Damn vampire speed."
"She can't be gone." Nadine whispers out. Tears sliding down her cheeks.
"She is." I reveal. "I can't hear her heartbeat anymore. There's only emptiness."
"No! Samantha, please come back." Nadine cries out as she begin to pull energy from all directions and pouring it into Samantha's body. I cling to her lifeless corpse as I howl out in pain from our loss. I mourn as her mate. I mourn for her friends. I mourn for our people in losing their queen and Luna.
Nadine persists in trying to heal Sam although there's no use. After a while, I decide it's time to take her home. I pick her up, cradling her in my arms. We walk back to the car and head home.
The first thing I see when I open my eyes is a full moon shining in the bright against the midnight sky. The stars are smiling back at me as I gaze up at them. My hands search my surroundings and I feel sand slip in between my fingers. Sitting up quickly I find that I'm on a beach. How did I get here? Did I imagine that I died? Or is this heaven?
Bewildered, I stand and walk along the shore. The water is surprisingly warm to the touch which only confuses me more. Where am I?
As I stroll down the shoreline, off in the distance I see a silhouette of a woman. As she nears me, I can see she has a floor length gown on and her hair almost touches the floor. When she finally comes to stand in front of me, it's like I'm looking in the mirror.
Her mouth curves into a smile as she parts her lips to speak. "Hello Samantha. I'm so happy to finally see you again after all these years. Although, I'd rather it have not been through these circumstances. My sister made a choice that soon bring dire consequences. You should not be here, I'm here to guide you back."
"Mom?" I ask, holding back the tears that filling my eyes.
"Yes, baby. It's me." She admits as she holds out her arms. I hug her tightly and cry for the moments lost. The moments that I would have never had to live if she and my father were still alive. Talks with my mother or father daughter dates with my dad. I mourn for all of our lost moments.
"Shhh...It's alright baby. I know it's been hard but you still turned into a caring beautiful woman. Your father and I are so proud. We watch you from time to time and you bring us great joy. Now, no more crying. We've got to get you back." She gently wiped the tears away and kisses my forehead.
"But how? I died."
"Your friend is working really hard to heal your body. She hasn't gave up and has been trying for a while. She doesn't know it but her powers are working. They are healing you. Also your mate has saved you as well when he marked you some of his abilities transferred to you. They will not be in full affect until you have completed the mating ritual. His supernatural healing ability was transferred in a small quantity, now Nadine is doing the rest."
She leads me towards the edge of the water. "Go ahead."
I look at her questionably before saying, "I'm suppose to walk on water now??" Note the sarcasm.
"Just go. You'll see."
Once I take a few steps into the water, it begins to rise, creating a wall of water in front of me.
"Step through and it will release you back into your body. Your soul needs to cross back over to enter your body again. I'm not sure when you will wake up but I know that you will."
"Okay. I don't want to leave you though." I complain and extend my hand for her to hold.
She grabs hold and smiles sweetly. "Your mate and your people need you, baby. You will join your father and I when it's your time. Always remember that we are proud of you and we love you dearly. Now go before it's too late."
"I love you too, Mom. Tell my father I love him too."
I glance back at my mother before taking a step through the wall of water. I feel a rush of power flows through me as I enter my body again.
My heart soars when I open my eyes and see Jacob and Nadine standing next to me.
They haven't noticed I'm awake yet so I part my lips and say "Did you miss me, wolf man?"
Thanks for your support. You guys are awesome!
Sincerely,
JMP
