Revised 11.7.18

The first thing my eyes focus on when I open them is pale cream-colored ceiling. I sit up and notice that I am in someone else's bed. The colorful quilt underneath me brings a warmth that makes me just want to cuddle up inside of it.

I look around and see the simplicity of the room. No pictures of family. No trinkets. No personal items. I shoot of the bed when I remember how I got here.

I was kidnapped!!!!!

Oh, no.... it's happened. I always thought I would be one of those lucky women -- that if she found herself in that sort of situation... I'd fight my way out of it. But here I am. In a strangers house -- in a bedroom. What do they plan to do with me? Who are "they"? What do they want with me?

My eyes dance around the room to see if my cellphone or any telephone really...is a available. Nothing. Worth a try. I guess.

The room I was placed in has no windows. Only one entrance and exit. The bedroom door. I walk up to the door and test the knob to see if it they forgot to lock it and it is easily opens. "Hmmm, okay?" I think to myself. "What kind of kidnapper doesn't lock the door?"

I walk down the dim hallway. Lined up on the wall are many different family photos. As I look closer, I notice that these men, woman, and children are all extremely beautiful. They all looked like the perfect families.

I don't remember my parents too much, they died when I was like 2 years old. I ended moving in with my aunt. She and my uncle raised me until I turned 18 years old. Unfortunately, I did not have a happy childhood.

I continue walking down, looking at the different families and I stop when I see one that looks familiar. Why would this family look familiar to me? I take a closer look. The picture has a young woman that looks about twenty five years old and young man of about thirty years old. In the arms of the man is a little baby girl and standing in between them a little boy that looks like a younger version of my big brother.

I focus more on the face of the young woman and gasp out loud. I cover my mouth quickly with hand as I continue to stare at her.

"I see you've managed to find your parents...." a soft voice says coming from behind me. Startled, I turn to see a woman that looks to be in her late forties. She is beautiful, just like women in all the pictures. I love how her long wavy brown and greyish hair compliments her porcelian skin. Her brown eyes and warm smile reminds me of my own. She is wearing a light flowy blue gown and is barefoot.

"Who are you? Why did you kidnap me? What are you planning on doing with me? And why do you have a picture of my family on your wall?" I rush all the questions out and start to hyperventilate.

"Calm down child." The woman says as a peaceful energy pours over me like warm jacket on a cool winters day.

"What was that? What are you?" I say to her as I step back a little.

"Please, come have a seat and I will explain everything." She days as she shows me to a small living room. "I apologize for the methods on how you got here. We just knew this would be easier if it were done in a safe environment."

I take a seat in a small floral print love seat as she sits across from me. "What is "this" exactly?" I ask using my fingers as quotation marks. She looks out the window for a moment and then turns to faces me.

"It's a long story. What happened to your parents, It will sound crazy at first but promise me you will listen to everything I have to say, before you make a decision of whether you believe me or not."

She looks at me questioningly- waiting for my response. "Okay. If it's about me and my parents then go ahead." I tell her and brace myself for what she is going to tell me.

"So, to answer your first question. My name is Lyla Brightvine. I'm your aunt and your mothers sister. Also, I'm a fairy. A healing fairy to be exact. That's why I was able to use my energy to calm your anxiety. It's part of the ability that I was given."

She pause for a moment and stares back at me. I decide not speak just yet so she continues on. "Your parents, were the King and Queen of all fairies before they were murdered by vampires. They were kind and loving, they ruled with valor and strength and respected all living things.

Our charge as fairies is to care for the earth. When we are born, we are given a special ability or power to help us protect this world.

Your parents shortly after having you, came across some a group of vampires that were torturing two werewolves. They had the male tied down like a rabid beast while making him watch as they tortured and ultimately murdered his mate in front of him.

Yes, werewolves are real. Before you ask, Mates are kind of like husband and wife for werewolves but the bond made between mates is much stronger. Among many other details, once a werewolf finds their mate. It is a bond for all eternity. They live and love side by side forever. When one dies the other follows shortly after. It's just how the bond works.

Knowing this, your parents intervened and tried to rescue the female werewolf. They fought bravely but ultimately death claimed their lives.

Vampire crave our blood, fae blood gives them a sort of high. Makes them sense everything stronger, taste everything better, etc. I won't go into the details. I tried to heal them of all the wounds but they were too deep. Maybe if I had gotten there faster I could of saved one of them. To this day it still tortures me inside. I'm so sorry my dear."

I am listening to everything she has said so far and I feel like I'm crazy for actually listening to this madness. I need to get out of here. My eyes dart around, as I try to search for an exit.

She speaks up again. "I know it sounds crazy but it's all true."

"How do I know that are telling the truth? Because right now you sound freaking insane, lady." I say and stand up, putting my hands on my hips.

"I was the one who delivered you. I can prove it because before they took you away from me, I gave you a necklace. Your mother had it made for you. It is a full moon and a crown. It stands for your real name which is Tatiana Whitemoon."

I gasped out loud and my hand immediately reached up under my collar pulling out the necklace she just described. I rub my thumb over the smooth circular pendant. It is a pearl white moon. And next to it is a gold crown hanging off the front of it. I always knew it meant something more, I just never knew what.

"Why was I given away? Why couldn't I have stayed with you? If this is all true, then why?" I say as tears begin to stream down my face.

Lyla comes to sit closer to me and places her hand upon mine. "I wish I could of had a say in it but unfortunately the high council makes all the decisions when there is no queen or king to rule and make decisions. They thought they were protecting you and your brother, by sending you away and letting you live a normal life. You are royalty, my dear. You are the last of us with royal fae blood. Your father, Tiberius Whitemoon was of pure royal blood.

Your mother, Diana, on the other hand was not. She was protector of woodlands. She drew her power from the moon and the sun. Although, her power was strongest at night. Her name Diana stands for Goddess of the woodlands. It would make sense to why you were blessed with a werewolf mate and an alpha at that. His name is Jacob Midnight. You were meant to rule together, it is your destiny."

"Uh, hold up one second. Just a few minutes ago you told me about fairies and werewolves being real and now you are telling me that I'm meant to be queen??" I say in a high voice.

"Yes. I know it's a lot to take in but it's all the truth. I can not lie to you, fae, do not lie."

I turn away from her and walk to the window. I look out towards the woods and can't help but feel like this is where I was meant to be. It's hard to explain but it's like my heart came more alive as Lyla began to explain it all.

I mean not the part about my parents - all though I do feel a sense of pride in how they died. Knowing that the sacrificed themselves for love and to protect others above their own lives....I just wish they could of lived long enough to see me grow up. How different my life would of been if they were still alive?

"I don't know what to say." I say as I turn back around.

She pats on the sofa, gesturing for me to take a seat again and I do. She reaches out for my hand and says "Look, I know it's alot but it's time that you knew. The high council was wrong to shield you from your birthright and your people. I came to you because I feel a darkness has come over the woods. I'm not sure what but I feel that something sinister is heading this way and we need you to help us."

"I can't do anything. I don't know the first thing about being a fairy or how to protect them. I'm not strong enough to fight for you all when I can't even fight for myself. Just a few days ago, I was almost raped because I wasn't strong enough. I'm sorry I can't do what you ask. I'm not who you think I am." I say as I stand up and start to walk away. "Plus, wouldn't my brother become king being that he is the oldest?"

"Oh, but you are who I say you are. It's in your blood. In the fae kingdom, we do not go by the age someone holds but by what the Mother Earth tells us. We have a fairy who can see into the future and that is how we were able to find out that you are next in line for the throne. You are princess over the fae kingdom. It is your birthright.

You may not feel like it but there is strength in you, just like your father. Quiet and strong." She pauses for a moment and then looks into my eyes.

"But I also see your mother in you as well.....she always saw the best in people. She was kind and loving towards everyone even those who didn't necessarily deserve her kindness. She never thought she could be queen either but she did and she ruled with grace and honor. Everyone adored her and would have taken her place in a heartbeat if they could of."

The pressure of it all finally hits me like a ton of bricks. I don't know if I can do this. It's too much--why me? Why couldn't I have lived a happy life with my parents? A happy childhood?

Everytime I try, I fall. Everytime I put myself out there, I get hurt. I don't know if I can be strong enough to rule over a kingdom. Can I?

I'm so overwhelmed. I can't think straight. I can feel fear choking my throat and squeezing my heart. I run towards the door and swing it open to find Derrick and Jacob standing there with a very beautiful woman.

"Samantha!" Jacob half whispers and half shouts. "I was so worried about you....." He starts to say but I don't wait to hear the rest as I run past him towards the dark woods.
